My Top 75 Castlevania Songs (#75-#51)

- Here is a list of my favorite Castlevania songs. Why top 75? At first I thought of doing just a top 10 but there were way too many songs that I wanted to include. Soon it was already a top 50 list. Eventually it got from 60 to 70 and finally to 75 songs. This could have easily been a top 100 but I wanted to draw a line somewhere earlier since it had already been quite a big work. I listened through over 1100 songs (that included game over and stage clear jingles plus tons of vampire killer and bloody tears arrangements/remixes so the real number of considerable songs is not that big). After first listening round I cut the number of songs down to about 230 from which I then chose my ultimate favorites after couple more listens. I didn't choose hastily, the order of the songs was formed over months of listening.
So I decided to split this one into 3 videos since it's really long list. I'll let every song loop about once (30 seconds or 3 minutes long song, no matter) and that's one reason why this became so long. Overall length is probably going to be around 1h40min-1h50min. Castlevania series has without a doubt some of the best videogame music ever so I hope you have time to watch the whole thing.
Remember, the order of songs is completely based on personal opinion. If your favorite is somewhere in lower positions it doesn't mean that I don't like it. I even had to leave some really good songs out of top 75. I decided to always use the original version of the song. Also no songs that have been originally from other game like Go! Getsu Fuhma, Ryu Kokki or In Search Of The Secret Spell (this one would've been actually pretty high if it wasn't originally from other game).
The pictures were put together using GIMP. I got better using it over time so some of the first images are simpler and probably more boring than the later ones. Here's a list of sites where I got almost all of the pictures used in video:

I'm impressed with the job done in this videos, especially considering the amount of songs each game has (taking out the remakes of course) it's still a pretty big and tiring job to do. So I congratulate your passion for this game's music since this would have taken like forever to finish.
Also, you're really good using gimp, that I can see. The placement of the images was just superb and well mastered, it looked professional enough so well done.
I'm really sorry you couldn't add "In search of the secret spell" though I can understand your reasons. That must be one of my top favorites from both castlevania in general and POR, alongside crucifix held close and simon's theme :)

It sure did, I would now change some positions and couple of songs at least but overall I'm happy how it turned out to be.

+darksymphony777 devon brautigam Maybe I would bring up some song/songs from Lament of Innocence since that game has very good soundtrack overall yet I only have few songs in the list. I brought up most of the songs I overlooked in later added #100-76 part. I guess I would now rank at least Calling from Heaven, The Pinnacle and Sorrow's Distortion higher to name a few. In Search of Secret Spell in Portrait of Ruin is a version of a song from MSX game King's Valley II.

In my passion as a gamer I used to play some Castelvania games once in a while, but I always found the soundtracks very well in every game.

Opposing Bloodlines sounds much better, IMO, on the SNES port. I guess I just love all that fake slap bass and guitar stuff.
It was the first Castlevania game I ever owned and beat. Personally, I was actually quite happy when it got inserted into the canon.

This video came out almost 10 years ago. It's crazy to think of how few Castlevania games have come out since then. The ten years preceding this video there were new, great Castlevania games coming out qlmost every year I think. Pretty depressing. Fuck Konami.

I don't think people hate it, I myself only heard good things about it before playing it and I also liked it a lot. As for this list I missed one song from CotM that should have easily been in this top 75 (I won't spoil it here)...
This is the reason I hate Rondo of Blood. That game has an awesome soundtrack but the level design and enemy placement is sadistic to say the least.
Watching this video brought back a lot of happy memories for me, going around whipping the shit out of anything that came withing 10 pixels of me. But there is one thing that I am confused about. Why all the hatred for Castlevania: Circle of the Moon, this is by far my favorite Castlevania; because one, it had challenge. Two, it had RPG elements to it, e.g. leveling up system, items, armor, different weapons. Three, had an exquisite array of enemies, all with different attacks. Why the hate????

mine was the one with cards after that came aria of sorrow i found em a bit to easy but i couldnt find any games for my nes/snes so i had to use emulators and super castlevania 4 was nice and hard :D older ones are nice but newer ones draw people in

Personally, I think Rhapsody of the Forsaken should be in the top 10. It literally screams Shanoa and girl power! :D
LoS soundtrack was grandiloquent (?) in a good way but none of it's songs really stood out for me when I listened it. Meanwhile there were lots of songs from other games that got stuck in my head. I respect every opinion though, this list is just entirely based on mine.

EDIT: Except Dance of Pales is still at the top.
I must admit that I placed it way too low. Purely musically judging it would be in top 3 I think. In this list other very underrated songs are The Pinnacle and maybe Sorrow's Distortion. These 3 songs should really be near top ten.
With that being said, overall I'm still happy with this list. There are couple of songs that I somewhat overrated or underrated but mostly the list looks the way it should.
In my opinion. Opposing bloodlines should be around the 20's
53 is called DIVINE Bloodlines, not Opposed Bloodlines. That title belongs to a remix that plays when you battle Ricther (Shaft) in SotN.
Alfonso ST No, the remix is Blood Relations. Opposing Bloodlines is the real title. It is also called Divine Bloodlines.

Wood Carving Partita should be way higher imo. Some of the earlier castlevania songs in midi were very simple and boring and they were way above this masterpiece (imo again).
In my opinion, LoI has solid soundtrack and CoD has great soundtrack. N64 Castlevania games have boring and forgivable soundtracks.
Only Final Fantasy Rivals Castlevania as the best game soundtrack of all time across the entire body of work. There's not one game in the series with shit music.

I would add Sonic too. Even most of the bad Sonic games have great music.

Probably my favorite song in the series tbh. I think it's the best song in the series, musically. But different people have different feelings, and music taste is mostly subjective. No big deal.
