- You say you want to eat healthy. Well here it is. Broccoli Salad is crunchy, lots of fiber, dried cranberries, crispy real bacon , red onion and a scrumptious dressing. Have you made it before? Try my new dressing recipe on it. You will love it. I just got in the kitchen and invented it.
When I got married, I was happy with whatever we got from family and friends. I never thought of color, I just needed functional stuff for our home.

I got married in 1966. I had the same salad bowl with the smaller bowls to match but mine was clear. My kitchen in our house we built in 1969 had harvest gold kitchen appliances, rusty orange shag carpet with floral sofas and chair! We thought it was so beautiful!! We still live in the same house but it has evolved yet still has the warm comfort . No gray and white for us. I love your home and can feel the love you and George put into it and that you have carried on! Keep on cooking and sharing your love!!💕
Beautiful green bowl. My tip is add some pecan halves. Yum. I will be 78 in June, got married at 17 in dec 1964. three children born before I turned 21.

Ditto! I don't think l would repeat that if l had it to do over. I'd wait a while and grow up first. Love my children, but it's hard work and a full time, high pressure job in a medical office.
I got married in 1971 and we got avocado green bowls and etc as gifts. Our carpet was green and gold shag. They sure were the colors of that time. My mom had turquoise in her kitchen, which was beautiful!
Our first apartment in 1982 was built in the 50's or 60's. The kitchen sink, drainboard and bathtub were all turquoise.
My mom had all pink appliances when we moved to our new house, and intercom system , alarm system, electrical power garage doors, my father put carpeting in all the ranch home, I did have half shag and half regular carpet in brown , beige & cream. I’ve never seen pink washer, dryer, refrigerator, stove, oven in the wall even. Her bathroom was pink. I always loved lavender and purple. So when I got married in 1971, I received a lot of violet plates and purple stuff. I still use my original mixer I received from my dear Aunt Mary who worked at the time at Bambergers in
Morristown, NJ. My mom’s living room had draperies in orange, & avacado green stripes. She was a long distance telephone 📞 operator since she was 14/16 ( she lied a little her age to get to work at Bell 🔔 Telephone 😊) my dad was a master mechanic with lineoleum, tile and carpeting. Our own ranch home was floored by my own daddy!! ❤❤❤ we live about 1 minute away. Unfortunately they’ve all passed on now, and at 72 I have no more elders to help us with our last phase of our own journey. I love watching you ❤ thank you for helping to bring back loving memories. Oh Brenda what memories you brought to my mind. Our first apartment when we got married was avocado green refrigerator and stove and the walls in the kitchen were the yellow gold you mentioned. Our carpeting was shag in beige. We will be married 59 years this summer. ❤

My mom and dad had avocado green and harvest gold. I remember that green couch. 😊 They had the green stove as well.
I got married in 1977. I have the gold version of that bowl. Don't apologize for your house. It is a traditional southern home with character.

Early 1970's...I received a clear one when I got married in 1973. I still have it and use it regularly.

If you can't install a hall door...hang a heavy curtain on a rod to keep in the heat. My mother's beautiful old house was built in 1875. It had a big open staircase next to the living room and she didn't like the draft in the winter. The span was about ten feet across so my Dad made a wooden rod to hang next to the ceiling. Mom bought many yards of heavy cotton velvet fabric and sewed a curtain. Every autumn they put up the curtain and took it down in the spring when the weather was warmer. It did a good job keeping the living room cozy and it looked nice too.

I love broccoli salad. I have made it and put shredded cheese in it, and cauliflower. I made my dressing with half mayanoise and sour cream. Some sugar, salt, and pepper. I put bacon in it as well. I will try it the way you made it. I love onion, but I have never put it into that salad. Have a terrific week.

Brenda I have that bowl in a different color. It has a small bowl included for dip. We had a harvest gold refrigerator and stove. I love broccoli salad too 😊.

Good memories! Our house came with harvest gold appliances, harvest gold bathroom fixtures. Living room was gold shag & bedrooms were avocado green shag & paneled walls😊

I'd say the 70's.....but it could be earlier. Greens, Golds, Brown and Orange were big in the 70's. I didn't get married until the early 80's....our first fridge was brown. It was a second hand fridge and first stove was second hand too. After that we bought white. Found out in the 70's that shag carpet would pack in high traffic areas so we avoided that at all cost...lol. Love the salad and the green bowl too. I still love stuff from the 70's. Love and Hugs🥰
I got married in 1975, and our first place we rented was harvest gold appliances. My mother's kitchen was Avocado green. Today my kitchen is green tile, black and stainless appliances and red accessories and curtains.

In 1974, my new refrigerator & stove were harvest gold. Had them for decades, long after that color was popular.

I make my broccoli salad like your recipe in your cook book but I put shredded cheese and chopped pecans in my and also use cranberries instead of raisins. So good.
Hey Miss Brenda, I'm 62 and not married, but I sure remember the avocado appliances. At one point, my grandparents even had brown appliances. And the shag carpet was something else.

One of my favorite salads for years. My original recipe includes hard boiled egg & I recently started adding toasted pecans & grated cheddar, which although makes it less healthy, sure makes it even more delicious!

We got mamarried in 1967. Our colors were autumn yellow. Wow! The avocado green was very popular.
I got married in 1976 and the first placed that I lived had an avocado tub and sink. I think that the appliances were the same. My living room had orange mingled shag carpet. It was really nice.
I had a gold bowl like that one and avocados green washer and dryer ! Married in 1962...now 80! Add pecans ...art deco is back, but I prefer more traditional...and antiques...eclectic is my style😅 Love broccoli salad!

Harvest Gold! Lol. The appliances in our first home bought in 1971 were Harvest Gold, and so was the patterned linoleum, rust, gold and green. There is a wonderful Loaded Cauliflower Salad. I think you would love it. Cauliflower, bacon, radishes, celery, green onion, mayo, dijon, sour cream, apple cider vinegar, shredded cheddar cheese, and salt and pepper to taste.
I got married (the first time-lol!) in 1973. I was 19 years old & thought I knew it all....ha! Avocado green & harvest gold were still around, but starting to go away. I had all white appliances in my first house & pretty much in all my houses since!
To me color has never left. I love bright colors and decorations. I was married in 1966. I had bronze refrigerator, stove, and sink in our first house. We also had green shag carpet that had to be raked 😂😂. Built another house in 1973, had harvest gold appliances, but no shag carpets. Still in the same House but the appliances have been changed to stainless steel. But I still like lots of color, makes me happy😂😂
I think it's so great to have a long,good marriage. That just doesn't happen for everyone. My first marriage didn't last. It was in the 70's and I remember those colors. Plus they added beige,browns and mustard yellow. The green went out, and refrigerators and stoves were coppertone brown. And shag carpet was a pain so it went out,too. It's also great to have people that eat just about everything you do. That salad looks delicious to me but my family wouldn't eat it. I'd have to make just a few servings for me. Sometime when I'm alone.😉

Greetings from North Carolina…..My goodness….Ms Brenda, we had the same colors in our home….who didn’t ? We married in 1967 and I had a set of avocado drinking glasses and a set of every day dishes with gold, avocado, and rust colored flowers. . Last December 23rd , my husband turned 77 and 5 days later I had a 76th birthday. What in the world were we thinking with all that green, gold and don’t forget, COPPER, back in the day? Married in 1981. Colors were mauve and wedgewood blue for decor. Appliances were white or bisque. Now, i have a steel grey refrigerator, stove and dishwasher. Floors are hardwood with area rugs not wall to wall...

Brenda, I have a bowl exactly like yours, and it clear like crystal . My Mother-in -Law gave it to me in 1964.

I remember the greens golds and oranges when I was younger. My momma found out I was allergic to shag carpet. Oh it’s bad. I steer clear of shag till this day.

Married in 1971. Harvest gold and avocado green and orange was THE colors. We bought a gold refrigerator to go in my gold kitchen. Gold vinyl flooring and gold countertops and gold stove. Gold shag carpet. We thought it was beautiful! 😂

In the late 60's, early 70's
The first house my husband and I bought in 1979 had an avocado green countertop and copper tone appliances (best dishwasher I've ever had -Kitchenaid). It had a filter on the dishwasher door and was so easy to clean the filter, unlike the dishwashers they sell today.
Iam 72 and I remember these appliances. Avocado green and I had what was called here in CA. Harvest Gold. They were both very popular. 😊😅😊

I guessed 1971, so I was right. Those appliance colors were called Avocado Green, Harvest Gold and Coppertone. I built my house in 1985 and the popular appliance color was Almond, so my stove, fridge and dishwasher were all almond. Still have the GE stove and Kitchen-Aid dishwasher after 40 years! My second fridge was Bisque, which is close to Almond. I had shag carpet in my childhood bedroom. It was rust and gold. Dusty Rose and Country Blue were popular in 1985 and I hated those and went with Rust and Forest Green with Cream walls. Almond walls in the kitchen. I still love it.
And you could buy all your appliances mixers canisters everything else in it My grandmother's kitchen was loaded with it lol . And I remember the shag carpet also will I couldn't wait to get that stuff out of my house lol
