Dark World - Fun, Even When It's Not

- Dark World, a collective of musicians based in Western Massachusetts, is featured in The FADER's new America Issue. We've also made this accompanying short film, which opens another window into these boys's distinctly American small-town existence.
The film, which starts with a kid named Reed freestyling in a bubble bath, is a story about friendship, about a group of boys making catchy songs and freaky videos because they're good at it, and because there's nothing better to do. Each upload is an honest reflection of their suburban lives - homemade evidence that life doesn't always have to be boring.
"For lack of a better word, it's raw," explains Nick Atkinson, who makes beats as Ghost. "We're making music probably because we grew up here. I don't know if we'd be making this music if we were anywhere else."

@@smellslikeus ong i’ve been just admiring all the projects made by this collective it’s really insane that they haven’t gained traction with all the different styles they’ve experimented with dj probably has the most polished production of the group but they wouldn’t be the same without everyone else
I think something bad happened in the group because a lot of members left. Some of them were essential to make dark world what it was. Dj also stopped being original when they left, and started making the most boring music imo

These kids are wild haha.. I love how this collective isnt just summed up in one genre of music Everyone got their own thing going on.. Got Gods and Lucas lucy doing their own thing, and hunnaloe and Sly hold down the street element of music..these kids are really worth looking into
I went from finding this video to bumping all the dark world channel vids to smoking and chillen with dj Lucas at his show in Denton, Tx. He’s still one of my top artists in rotation to this day
how often does he tour? im a newer fan and i had just assumed he didnt leave the Mass. area

You can only do so much when you market and distribute your own material. If the collective really wants to blow up, it needs an established label or distribution company to help market the music. Peace.
