Had one of these, too. Bought it used, and it lasted only eight weeks. Wasn´t winterproof. A neighbor lady from three streets away by the name "Winter" shoved her car with a speed of 70 km per hour into my parked car. Rippled the left rear fender up to the left rear wheel where the last 50 km/h were set to zero. All four doors and the trunk were easily accessible (okay, for the trunk I needed a crowbar). Sad to see him go, but the dealer made me a very good deal on a 4 years old 940 station wagon with 200 k on the clock so i kissed him goodbye!

Thank you for the video, very well done. 3 things I disagree though : 1. Not using Volvo coolant only. 2. Not using Volvo or Mann W917 oil filter only. 3. Not using 100% synthetic oil only (usually 5W40).

I've been told that the camshafts on a lot of European vehicles from the 80s and 90s had some issues with either snapping or the belt sliding off the cam and jumping time and that was basically all she wrote. I know that BMWs had this issue and they issued an upgraded camshaft that had a lip around it to prevent the belt from sliding off and it was also more study as well I believe. Not sure if Volvo had this problem as well but it wouldn't surprise me. These ones on your car look okay I don't see anything wrong with them but there were definitely a handful of cars that did fall under this category.

I was really wondering what happened with the 740. I'm glad to see you're still taking care of it. Since the last time i commented, i almost bought an empty shell of one. I finally bought a S70 and now i'm stuck on a similar repair. Nobody wants to touch a Volvo in my area and i lack a lift or helper to continue... I wish i had a RWD one. Seems way easier to have access to everything. At least my S70 isn't a turboed one!

@@ejoautovideos It's a 2000. I was beginning the timing belt, water pump and such job and i started by draining the coolant. It broke some metal hoses behind the engine. The small one with the drain on is to change. I'm not able to unbolt it because the manifold is in the way. The other tube, the large one, i want to change it too since itr's rusted a lot. This one is all disconnected and free to go, but it refuses to get out of the engine bay. I can't access anything by the bottom since i'm on the ground and i fear that if i try to remove the exhaust manifold, the bolts/studs will snap, even tho the manifold was changed not so long before my purchase. In my area there are only garages willing to do oil and tires changes, nothing more. They also refuse to use my parts to fix it, but they can't find the parts by themselves. They're only available in a Volvo dealership and it's soooooo far away from me, they won't deliver the parts in here and my local garages won't send anyone to get them at the dealer, obviously. I'm PISSED. My second S70 will end up at the scrapyard like the first, because of the idiocy of my local mechanics. #%$&?#&#?&#?&#

@@ejoautovideos Coming back to this video since I need to do mine in a couple of weekends. You solved one question I had in your video, you can also move the engine counterclockwise if you pass the top mark. However, I have another question. How the accessories belt tensioner works. I have a 240 so the only similar mechanism is the water pump one in your video. Do I need to loose 2 or 3 bolts? I imagine first the bolt in the side for being able to loose the top bolt, but I see you are working also in a bolt closer to the block. Not sure if I have explained myself correctly. Thanks in advance! Nacho.

As a general rule did you check the thermostat, if the hose had some corrosion, and you were replacing the water pump, check the thermostat, and the seal to prevent leak, to keep the 740 up to date on the maintenance, the other thing that I would check are the valve cover seal, manifold seal ,who knows if they were replaced, and since that is your daily driver, as to the surface rust on the flywheel of the timing belt, and the water pump where the belts go ,do you give it a cleaning with the wire brush to get rid of the surface rust
