    Stop purchasing the ant killing product that states that the product lasts up to six months. Kill ants for almost free for good. That is, until another ant family moves in. I would love to know if this work on Fire Ants and other kind of ants. Please leaving your posts here to help others.

    I purchased a my new home a month ago and found out that I had a bad ant problem. I used Raid Max and it worked on contact but the ants kept coming back. I found your video and tried your solution for three days and the ants came pouring out onto the cotton balls dipped in the solution. Now I can't find an ant anywhere in my house or outside my house after a week! You saved me a helluva lot of money man thank you so much!

      This mix works for ants but you have to be patient if you can . You need to let ants have their run for 2-3 days . To kill the colony you have to let them take it back and share with the queen/queens. IF you spray to kill ants you wont eliminate the colony and they will be back. I dont like to soak the cotton balls as that will get hard very quickly. I just use a lid and maybe put a few drops of the mix around the lid.

    Boric Acid was difficult to find in our community. Walmart did not carry it. I made this recipe as demonstrated in your video. After 20-30 minutes they started to conjugate around the cotton ball, The trail leading up to the kitchen counter stopped, so far they love the stuff, i'll post back to see if it does destroy the nest! thanks again for the great video.

      do you happen to know if it will work on the "odorous house ant", I used bait, they ate for a couple days many died. still finding them crawling around scattered all over, cant figure out where exactly they are coming from. they refuse to eat any more bait, no borax sugar mix, never touched the terro! I'm annoyed seeing them still running around.

    We had hundreds of ants on the floor of the house even when moped. You don't have to measure. This is how I got rid of the ants in the house.
    Poured lots of sugar in a used water bottle, enough boric acid, and sugary kids juice. Tried both ways, little juice, more juice. Works both ways. Shake bottle. Puncture hole, put in a stick as a bridge for the ants. Placed out in the backyard where there are thousands along side of the wall. Now, after 3 days I have only seen 1 ant compared to hundreds in the house.

    So the "T' Brand name product is 5 percent Boric Acid and the rest is some form of sugar solution? So your ratio is approximately correct at roughly 20 Teaspoons Sugar to 1 Teaspoon Boric acid.
    (Source for the following: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borax)
    Borax, also known as sodium borate, sodium tetraborate, or disodium tetraborate, is a salt of boric acid. and is not the same exact thing as boric acid. Borax is also easily converted to boric acid. Its reaction with hydrochloric acid to form boric acid is:
    Na2B4O7·10H2O + 2 HCl → 4 H3BO3 + 2 NaCl + 5 H2O

    • @ghos282
      @ghos282 8 лет назад

      Understood about the Wicki critique. My calculation about ratio may also be off, as it was based strictly on the ratio of Orthoboric Acid to Sugar alone, rather than on a ratio of Orthoboric Acid to the total volume of sucrose solution. (As well as the actual amount of Orthoboric Acid in the 'T' product being 5.4% and not 5%.. Has anyone actually taken a measure of the precise viscosity of the 'T' product?)
      P.S. Also viewed your follow up mid winter .Ants in the Kitchen, there might be a nest under the house' video. Seeing as some species of 'Little Black Ants' like to set up nests inside of wall cavities, as well as in crawl spaces both below and above; and will often have multiple nests with multiple queens.. How did that battle turn out?
      After 8 years of battle with the 'Little Black's' (1/64 Inch Long by Massive Massing Numbers) I believe that I have the indoor covered (Silicon Sealer is your friend, as is a good duster bulb and Orthoboric Acid), I think however, I might just 'bite the bullet' and do a Termidor SC Perimeter.
      The strategy simply being: Having cut off the internal nester’s from any deeper foraging into the structure. and forcing them to have to forage outside; then force them to have to cross the 'non-repellant' Perimeter Barrier to do it.

    I made up a batch of this 'Killing Ants for Good' recipe a couple of days ago. I got some old small plastic containers, placed cotton balls inside and saturated them with the magic potion. For the ones placed outside, I punched holes in the lids to keep out debris. (No pets or young 'uns to worry about.) I placed them in strategic places and soon had sizeable trails of ants streaming into the containers. I checked them from time to time to make sure there was enough 'juice' in there to keep the trails going strong.
    Now the trails are gone. However, there are still a few ants wandering around, so I am not certain if the work has been completed. Are these just lone survivors? How do I know when the ants are gone for good? Should I just keep the traps in place until I don't see any ants at all? What did you exactly do? I don't want to kill a few thousand and then when the nests repopulate have the same old infestation next year.

    William, boric acid is not quite the deadly killer you make it out to be. Borax has been used for many centuries to enhance laundry detergent. It is used in cosmetics, some toothpastes, and in cooking (in some parts of the world -- not the U.S.A.). Kids mix it with Elmer's Glue at school to make "Slime." People mix it with water to make an anti-fungal foot bath. Yes, it is used for pest control against cockroaches, and it clearly does a number on ants.

    I have never used a Boric Acid that is blue. The type that I buy is fluffy and white. It is almost of the consistency of powdered sugar, therefore I add it last and dissolve it into the mixture of sugar and hot water. I do not see any reason for exposing the substance in any substantial way and the way I fix mine has lasted over a year in all of the rooms of my apartment without ever seeing one ant. I have lived here for two years, and it is just now time to make a new batch. When I have family or friends with ant problems, I make a batch to suit their homes with the same results. My recipe is: **Warning**
    PLEASE BE AWARE AND KEEP THIS AWAY FROM PETS AND SMALL CHILDREN!!
    Homemade Boric Acid -Ant Bait
    - 1 cup of granulated sugar
    - 4 tablespoons of boric acid
    - 2 cups of warm water
    5-10 Cottage Cheese containers with lids -16 oz size
    Box Lids, Cardboard or work area with newspaper in protected space
    1. Add Sugar and Water. Bring to a Boil and reduce to Low Heat.
    2. Gradually add the Boric Acid until mixed in thoroughly! Then set aside and let cool!
    3. While waiting for syrup to cool, turn containers upside down.
    4. Use a small knife and make two-three - ¾ inch holes from bottom and the same size of a ballpoint pen; staggering them around container. This lets the ants crawl in and out, but keeps the bait away from children and pets.
    5. Lay containers right side up in protected space where they will not get moved!
    Bottoms will be bottoms again. Pour 2 TBSP of syrup in the regular sized 16 oz containers and 1 TBSP of syrup in the narrow shaped containers.
    6. Allow to remain in place for another 15-20 minutes. You can then put the lids on tightly flip each of them, placing them right back down.
    7. You can then place them where you like. I still like to mark them as “Poisonious” and I place them lodged behind things, like behind the garbage can, bed, dresser or under the sink. If some of the syrup drizzles out, it not likely to be much.
    8. I hope this works for you!

    I've got an ant problem inside. I tried a little different mix but it isn't working. I'm using Eaton's Answer Boric Acid, I tried a 6:1 mix, that didn't do anything. Went to 3:1 for over a week, still don't see any dead ants. I then went to 1:1 mix and it's about day 2 on that and still no dead ants. I am not using this much water, I just poor in 2 tablespoons of the boric acid then add a few drops of water until it's completely dissolved, then I add 2 tablespoons of sugar, and this is in a styrofoam cup with a lid and a large hole in side. This doesn't harden like it will with too much water, stays soft so they can still eat it. But I don't understand why it's not working. It's completely mixed up together and 1:1 mix, there's a constant dinner line to and from, hundreds of ants, so they're carrying it back to nest. I am so frustrated they just won't die!

If this is a satellite colony then I assume the main colony must be outside. My last questions, how do I trace the mother colony as they feed by night AND must the mother colony also be destroyed? Many thanks.

      @billyq12001  7 лет назад

      This solution works on ants in of all kind where I live in Southern MD. Do the same as I stated for outside. If these are ants they will take the boric acid to the queen and this will terminate the colony. No sure if this works for termites. Good luck.

      Nan Sriprasad Find out what the snake eats and repell that. Mothballs repell rodents it doesn't kill snakes. I put mothballs in my flower pots and it keeps the squirrels from digging in them. And by squirrels I mean chipmunks, grey and ground squirrel etc… IT DOES repell rodents I don't know who is saying its a myth it does keep them away.

    • @freedomdove
      @freedomdove 8 лет назад

      +William Quinn Okay, so I boiled the water and let it sit a minute or two, then added the sugar and borax. It dissolved very quickly this way. I didn't think it would harden because I wasn't going to be cooking the sugar with the water. It was indeed fine. The cotton balls did eventually dry and harden on about day 4, so I just need to keep putting out new ones every few days.
      I'm not sure this works very well, but I will give it more time and continue to put out the soaked cotton balls. I think a tablespoon of borax might have been too much, but I can't tell yet. They are in the process of going to other areas of the house since they don't seem to want to go where the bait is now. I'm putting out the cotton balls anywhere I see the ants. As a disclaimer, I did change the recipe a little by only using 1.5 cups water instead of 2 cups because I figured I didn't need all that much and I wanted to fit all of the solution into a pint canning jar.

    • @billyq12001
      @billyq12001  8 лет назад

      freedom dove I did the same and the solution lasts about four days. Because of this I cut the recipe down to 1/2 cup.

    Putting under a yogurt cup tilted up is NOT going to keep a pet away from it. If a dog smells food they will just move the yogurt cup to get the cotton ball w/the food smell on it. PLEASE do better at advising people how to keep mix away from kids and pets. This stuff should be kept securely away from pets and kids at ALL times both pets and kids are are curious, smart and like to eat stuff randomly.
