  • Here’s a video of Sean Mahoney walking with a single-point cane for the first time.
"A lot of unseen work has gone into this. The single point came is far less stable than the quad-point cane, so it was necessary to increase wrist stability/grip as well as overall body strength and control. Definitely a work in progress, but I was impressed at my first attempt.
People often don’t realize the effect of a cervical spinal cord injury, as it affects everything below your neck. So getting to this point requires activating and strengthening so many muscle groups you typically would never think about. But these exercises translate into increased function in everyday life, so don’t ever think your efforts are futile if you don’t achieve the end goal right away. Baby steps are still steps!" - Sean Mahoney

Excellent job, very determined to walk. Reminds me of myself. I have cmt in my lower legs and have always worked on my walking and could walk but my lower legs have no muscles but i was an active person before i ended up getting a tick disease and mold which ended up becoming nuerological and worsened my cmt and now i have postural orthostatic tachycardia which when i stand my heart races very fast and cant stand long. But I hope to some day beable to stand and Walk without this problem happening.

Good point. A walker would provide more stability. The title says it's his first time using a cane so maybe he wanted to try and see what he could do?
