- STEAM Locomotive Pulling Special Passenger Train In The Middle Of The Street! Street Running Freight Train With 3 Kansas City Southern Locomotives & 4th Locomotive DPU In The Middle! Empress Steam Train On The Final Spike Tour For The Canadian Pacific Kansas City Southern Railroad ( CPKC ). The train is street running in 2 different towns and there are several freight trains included in the video.
This steam locomotive is called the Empress. It is a 94 year old oil burner that was retired from service in 1960. The locomotive was restored by CPKC to celebrate the one year anniversary of the merger of Canadian Pacific Railway and Kansas City Southern Railroad. Both railroads were Class One railroads. There were 7 Class One railroads and now there are 6 with the merger.
The Final Spike Steam Tour started in Calgary, Canada on April 24, 2024. The train ran all the way across the USA and down to Mexico City where it arrived on June 7, 2024. The train started the return trip on June 9, 2024. I filmed it in Iowa on July 1, 2024. The train will arrive back at Calgary on July 10, 2024. A lot of distance records were made.
The extra tenders are for water and the other locomotives supply the power for the passenger cars for air conditioning and lighting etc.
This video is pretty self explanatory. I chased the train from Davenport, Iowa to Marquette, Iowa. The video starts at Le Claire, Iowa and the chase goes north. First we see a train across the Mississippi River in Illinois and then we see the steam train. We see another freight train passing the steam train which took a siding. Then we see yet another freight train in Bellevue, Iowa doing street running. There will be a Part 2 for this video since I have so much video of it to post.
I have already posted a video of a train doing railroad switching in Davenport and I posted a video of a train going over Government Bridge in Davenport with a train also going under the same bridge. See those two video, you will love them!
I ran into fellow RUclipsr Jason Asselin and you will see him in my videos.
Filmed Monday, July 1, 2024 in 1080p with 60fps. Thanks for watching!
Please thumbs up and watch another JawTooth video to help my channel.

I love it when people take excellent care in keeping these antique engines rolling.
Me too!
Boy is that isn't an Americana shot of that steam train rounding that curve in that town. Good stuff there that many people may never see in person in their entire life. A real steam engine rolling through town.
Glad to see Shoestring make a brief appearance!
Wow, that woukd be awesome to see anywhere, let alone running through the middle of town on main street! 🚂👍
Thanks for watching Dave! Have a great week!
The train that passed the Empress was a long one! And the river looked relatively clean for being flooded, in my opinion. Thanks, JT! 😃😃❤❤
The Empress sounded absolutely fabulous when it was up to speed! 😃😃😃😃❤❤❤❤
500 miles...definitely worth the trip!
OH my, longing for the good old days...
Awesome trains, so beautiful - well worth you driving to catch them, thanks so much for sharing!
I love that sound it takes me back to the Guilded age.
Thank you for the spectacular video, JT!! The Empress is simply amazing . And that Tom is just as cute as can be! I love to see your pets, every one of them. Thanks again, JT! 😃😃😃😃😃❤❤❤❤❤
I like seeing 3 different generations of engines on this steam train...
I didn't think about that but yes, that is pretty cool
Beautiful train,,what a locomotive,,thanks for sharing,😊
That’s the best catch anyone could make! Especially street running! Catching Mainline Steam is Rare. To see Mainline Steam doing street running is even rarer.
Yes, not much better than a street running steam train!
@@JawTooth, excellent video! Amazing journey for a steam train! I read that the entire journey from Canada to Mexico and back was over 9,000 miles! Originally I thought the train would "Dead-head" back to Canada from Mexico after the journey! Glad that wasn't the case! I myself live in Michigan and have been watching trains since I was 4 in 1987! l love using film cameras (35mm/120) and S-VHS camcorders! I like things "Old School" and know film is better than digital. Everyone can have their preference and I support the art either way! Now, I caught the CPKC "Final Spike" southbound train with "Railfan" Gary Sample (Northville, MI) between Hastings, Minnesota and Bensenville, Illinois in May! That was a great chase! Saw some freights with both CP and KCS power! Also, Northtown, MN BNSF yard had hundreds of stored BNSF engines in the yard! 😢 Some ex ATSF "Warbonnet" C44-9Ws are now R.C.O. yard engines. First time seeing this! I don't like how the ATSF "Super Fleet" locos are now relegated to switching yards. Many have been on local jobs for years. Good they are still working!!!! 😏
With the return train I had another chance to catch in Iowa! This time I travelled with my best friend, "Mazon" Mason Dahlke (Marine City, MI)! Our journey to Iowa and back totaled 1,171 miles for an Enterprise car we rented! First we went to the Railroading Heritage of Midwest America "Walk Amongst the Giants" event in Silvis, IL June 29! WOW! CP 2816 was there!!!! This was a surprise, especially since it wasn't going to be there officially until the day before! Good NREX stuff was seen, including Hudson Bay Railway SD50s, Conrail SD50 (CSX numbering), Iowa, Chicago & Eastern SD40-2 # 6100, Iowa Interstate stored locos/slugs, etc. Went inside the shop for the fundraiser tour! Amazing RRHMA will paint ex BNSF B40-8W # 537 back into fresh ATSF "Warbonnet" colors! UP DDA40X did yard shuttles! Steam locos in the shop, including Hudson Bay Railway # 5003! I was so happy to capture pictures of a HBRY engine for the first time! We went to Galesburg Railroad Days V.I.P. bus tour the next day, June 30! This was the best, including yard tour, shops, etc. Nice old faded ATSF "Warbonnet" C44-9Ws did R.C.O. yard jobs here! We also saw BNSF "Warbonnet" C44-9W # 720 on display at the Amtrak station. This is an unusual engine for BNSF to display! This made my day! Genuine ex ATSF "Warbonnet" # 692 doing a R.C.O. yard job was photographed passing the BNSF "Warbonnet!" Great to see this in 2024! This and Northtown, MN made it my most "Warbonnets" seen in years. OK, after Galesburg we stayed at a Farm House, Princeton, IA! The next day, July 1st, we were leaving the B&B too late. CP 2816 was already coming! Mazon and I caught up to it in Clinton, IA! I only did a grab video out the window as it passed a factory! We didn't get ahead of it enough. A CP 4-axle ECO engine was moving past 2816 and partially blocked the view! Cool to see the passing, but not good footage. We had to move since a truck was coming in! Now, we got ahead of the steam train and went to Bellevue, IA! JawTooth, I was not far from you! First, I caught the train with three KCS locos up front (1 KCS DPU) passing the Grist Mill! Train you have street running in this video! 🤠 I then hauled myself with five cameras, two tripods and fold-out chair to the top of Route 52 overpass, east shoulder side! I got S-VHS video and captured stills with four film cameras! Both in 120 and 35mm in E-6, BW and print film types! YES!!!! I was also the only one on this side of the bridge! AMAZING!!!! 😯 Partially dangerous without sidewalks! 😳 I wanted to capture CP 2816 following the Mighty Mississippi River! I found this locale by using the trusty DeLorme atlas! Not bad of a view! I am happy!!!! 😁😁😁😁 Afterward, my friend Mazon was ready to drive away! We partially caught a northbound CPKC Ethanol Train! It had eight engines of both CP and KCS power. We got it in the street-running portion! I did not even realize the streets like this were here! Mazon paced the train for only one block! I wanted to follow it further, but he was ready to leave town! That is alright! I still captured this cool train! I will have to return to Bellevue someday. Hey JawTooth, if you stuck around longer you could have seen the train with eight engines too! This was around 1:10 p.m. On the way back we had "Raw Dawgs" restaurant/bar in Savannah, Ill! Great girl waitress! "Tasty!" Success!!!!!!! 🤪😜😜😝
Here's a Google "Street View" showing Highway 52, Bellevue, IA, where I set up for my shots of CP 2816, July 1: www.google.com/maps/@42.249609,-90.4183096,3a,49.7y,94.79h,80.89t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s8fOU2sqzJ4SFJ_qzCOCYHQ!2e0!7i16384!8i8192?coh=205409&entry=ttu

94 years old and sounding brand new
For sure! It has a unique sound all to itself
Brian the ignorance of people we appreciate your hard work and dedication to the channel and your subscribers are all appreciate it thank you 😊
That was a fabulous KCS mixed freight that did the street run. It was reasonably long with a mid-train DPU and a good variety of cars! It was a great catch, JT! Thank you! 😃😃😃❤❤❤
That little intro by Shoestring took me by surprise. Thank you for the video!
Glad you liked it!
@@JawTooth absolutely! The Empress is beautiful.
Just think,a couple of months the Mississippi River was all most impassable and now look at it.
It looks like an ocean when you are standing by it at some areas
Gotta love how The Empress steam train has 3 tenders and 2 retro Diesel locomotives :)
The Canadian Pacific is fantastic. What a great shot.
Absolutely GORGEOUS locomotive! Canada must be very proud of her!
Definitely! And look at the records that were set. Running in 3 countries and going thousands of miles
WE are! Though we are disappointed that we don't get to see it on the original CP Line in Canada! But WOW, what a clean-looking set of engines. It is as if someone made sure they were decked out in their "Sunday Best"!
She is absolutely gorgeous
I road in a train once on the way into the Army... had a Pullman bed and everything... was very fun. I was only 17. I lied about my age to get in. lol just a couple weeks though.
Wow, that is pretty cool!
Awesome. It's hard to believe something as heavy as locomotives would totter like they do. That steam engine is just as impressive in a distance as it is up close. That entire train is impressive...
I agree with you. Very impressive
Great ro see the steam loco working well at speed
It was awesome! I hope they keep it in operation
That was awesome JT! Thanks for posting!
Glad you enjoyed it!
AWESOME video Brian👍👍👍👍
Thanks 👍
What a plethora of excitement, Brian! I specially love the Le Claire part with Old Man River just about lapping at the streets and flowing so fast. Can you imagine people living in those apartments with all the balconies to watch the trains go by and I didn't notice one person on the balcony to watch the steam train. I will have to watch again. What an entertaining video! Yeah, some people do not know how to be nice..."quite rude actually..." is a gentleman's way of putting down an idiot. You are a gentleman, Mr. Tooth. Thanks for shooting those videos. :)
CP 2816 , she’s a beautiful locomotive with a wonderful sounding whistle. Canada’s finest. Awesome video JT.👍🏼🇺🇸🇨🇦
Thank you very much!
133 wagons on that methanol train! No wonder there was a DPU. Thanks for filming the trains today!
Thanks for watching!
Such a beautiful old locomotive Jawtooth! What a great addition to add to your Steam train playlist!👍
It sure is! My goal this year is 10 different ones in operation. I have 6 so far
The Best video of "the empress",a Legendary steam locomotive in North América....

Thanks for taking us along on this historic trip of the Empress! Glad the Batmobile made the trip with you. He would of gotten lonely if left behind! I drive Dodge Rams so I think that’s cool !
The steamer is magic thank you Brian
thanks for watching! I will have a second video of it also
Canadian Pacific 2816 steam choo-choo locomotive, sights, sounds, dynamics, beautiful living history.
CP 2816 the Empress pulling 3 Diesel-electric locomotives, and train of various vocation, and dome rail cars.
Kudos to all the passionate, dedicated, talented, skilled people of CP involved in restoring 2816, upkeep, operation and touring US, CAN, Mex
Views of natural scenery, Mississipi river, ... freight trains
RR Tracks in middle of road. Small towns and people that still have common-sense and awareness.

Thank you too!
This series has been a great chase. Thank you.
Loving the live action here.
Thanks for watching Alan!
Fantástica!!!
Thanks for watching!
The guy in the hat looked right at you before he started shooting. It’s not like he didn’t know you were there. You were a lot more polite than I would have been.
We all had our spots figured out long before he showed up and then he walked right in front of us. He also posted a picture of us on Facebook with some negative comments. He was very rude to say the least. Unfortunately there are people like that every where.
What a jerk
What a jerk
Amazing video
Thanks!
Wow what a day rail fanning the Canadian Pacific line! Both steam and diesel running side by side! Now that’s some awesome live action for sure!
boy, the road is so close to the tracks that you could have a boarding right there.
haha, the new cat is cool.
Loco...

Full steam ahead!! Love that whistle.
You and me both!
Fantastic to see so many people coming out to see the trains.
Nice Video, Love that Empress Loco..

I just loved that old steam locomotive. All those other trains and that super long train with a DPU. Cool video 👍❤️
Good to see more of Mark.
I filmed that clip in Illinois. I was trying to get him to go back to Britt this year so I thought of him when I was in Iowa. Thanks for watching!

Great catch! Love old trains 🚂! Love the horn ! People are so rude!!! Those 2 men should be ashamed! They could have gotten right behind u and still gotten a great pic!!!
Great shots of some beautiful engines and rail cars. Just a note to other RUclips viewers, if you go to settings in the video you can change the playback speed and get a longer (or shorter) look at the engines. Love the 2 old rounded nose diesel engines.
Thanks for posting, Brian. This was a very cool video!!❤
Thanks for watching
Good stuff JT. Awesome lashup. Thanks for the effort.
Thanks for watching!
Great video Brian. Empress is beautiful
It sure is! Thanks greg
Outstanding JT!!!!
Merci beaucoup pour cette très belle vidéo ! 👍🙏
Thanks for watching!
I'm glad that you got to see it. I only drove 11 miles to see it.
Wow, lucky you! I made a 1363 mile round trip Lol
Cool video, takes me back to the days when people rode trains to go places.
Winds of Hurricane Beryl are pushing against my house, but I'm happy watching a steam engine strut its stuff. Thanks for the video.
I hope all is well. I have been out of the loop with the news. Take care and thanks for being here!
What a beautiful vintage train and a CP too! I also never knew about oil burning steam engines. I truly thought they were all coal running. You learn something everyday. Nice to see Shoestring briefly. And never saw tracks like that for street running trains. No U-turns on that street. Great video J.T. 👍👍
@NorlandBoxcar, CP 2816 steam engine was converted to oil! It used to be powered by coal! Union Pacific's steam engines (844/4014) are also converted to oil! This is probably cleaner than coal. I love this train and glad I got it too!!!! 😁
RJ
@@trains2495 Oh really...That is good to know. Thanks for sharing. As well, It was certainly easier than shovelling coal all day lol..Cheers..
@@NorlandBoxcarJust to elaborate a little, steam locomotives were constructed to burn oil, coal, and wood. A few sugar mills fired theirs in sugar waste, known as bagasse. Wood fired locomotives came very early, then coal become common, and oil began to appear in the west and in some metropolitan areas around the turn of the 20th century. As noted 2816 (H1b) was originally coal, but the last 2800s (H1e class, ~1940) such as 2860 were delivered burning oil.
Good morning Jaw Tooth 🌄
Good morning!
Definitely awesome thanks Brian
Glad you enjoyed it
Thr best train videos
Thank you very much!
We had a Steam event back in the eighties while the line was Canadian Atlantic Railroad/CP Rail/CPR. the steam engine pulled and pushed a train for rail fans. great video coverage. Thank You.
Very cool!
I like old steam teains
Saw her in Canada near the start of her trip. This is probably history in the making as something like this will not likely happen again.
I went and saw all those engines and cars on Saturday in Winnipeg..Got some great photos and a video clip of the steam engines horn.. And I had a great rehearsal with my band for a upcoming gig..
Never never worry about people cuting in front, i guarantee it will always happen.
As a railfan from the 1960s and i wish i thought abkut camera work back then, you have great entertainment an video. Dont get aggravated its not worth it. Great job and always always be safe....
A nice view along the street.
It sure is
Nice steam train
Thank you very much!
thanks . way good . dont worry too much about the rude people. they are special.thanks again enjoyed every minit.
I wish they would get a spot 5 or 10 minutes before the train comes so we know what to expect. They did that with the Big Boy steamer also. I would find a spot and right when the train comes somebody walks in front of me. Oh well, I did get a few that were good shots. Thanks for watching!
Great job, Jawtooth. You got her done this Monday morning indeed. Awesome video of the historical and the current of railroading “meeting and greeting” this morning. Thank you for the excellent videography.
Glad you enjoyed it and many thanks Curtis!
Last part of the video with the Empress flying down the track was awesome. There is something about the clickity-clack of a steam train travelling at full throttle. I could hear simultaneously the lyrics of the "Petty Coat Junction" and the "Orange Blossom Special". Reminds me as a kid going down to the Miami (FL) train station on a Sunday afternoon when F.E.C. would run one of their vintage steamers and passenger cars.
Canadian Pacific steamer. That's sweet. Great video Brian. 😊
Thanks 👍
So cool! Amazing catch of this beautiful steam locomotive.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Gorgeous
Awesome cool Jaw Tooth the steam locomotive is beautiful and watching enjoying and enjoy the side show too 🚂🚂🚂🚂👌👍😃😎♥️
Many thanks!
WOW, Great video, thanks for the special effort you put in the catch 3 times! The places you caught the train were really cool, loved the street running. Absolutely a beautiful steam Locomotive, with restored cars and an F7 consist. Doesn't get any better! Thank You!
Thank you very much! I will have another video of it soon also. I got it in a few more spots
Enjoying yet another video! Cool summer road trip 😎

That’s a cool steam train
It sure is. I love the sound of it approaching in the distance
