I love your list! I like to bring a cute notepad that I usually find at the Dollar Store or Walmart to write quick notes on throughout the day to students who turn not helpful choices into helpful ones, to students who are being leaders, etc. You can also write quick more generic notes ahead of time and then all you have to do is write the student's name on it, which can be a time saver.
I once read my own choice of books from the teachers books . lesson learned never bring my own choice of reading. Most teachers want you to follow their plan . I've been a sub for over 10 years. I've never been able to do my own stuff. They usually leave extra stuff so be careful. Don't try to do your own thing I had a friend that brought her own stuff and teachers didn't like it. I did bring my own template to leave a note. Love your videos
Excellent video. Preparing to substitute teach in elementary level schools. K-2 sounds like a lot of fun. I know there is a ton of work involved, but the fun aspect is important.
I have an interview next week for a substitute teacher position, so I’ve been watching so many videos on what to bring/incentives/must-haves/all the sub things. This was super helpful❤
I have a concern as a substitute teacher. One day I signed up to be a substitute for the P.E. teacher. Long story short, once I had been at the school for an hour, they made me drive to another school very very far away. They said I should have checked my email (which I was locked out of) because that P.E. coach teaches at the first school one Monday and another school the next Monday, and so on. I was furious, and I wrote an email to the subdesk, and I asked what would have happened if I would have gone home instead. They decided to be passive aggresive, not answer my question, and told me from now on all emails should be done through my assigned district email (I don't even remember the password). They have made me so mad, I barely work for their district at all anymore, and I just work for other districts a lot more often.
I just became a Substitute teacher and my first day was last week . It’s my sons 2nd year in the same classroom / teacher this year he just turned 4 and is in prek4 / headstart.. I wanted to sub for headstart which is prek3/prek4 I was told it’s the same basically since last year when my son was in prek3. It was myself and a IA in the classroom with 3 &4 yr olds total of 15 children . I have a lot to learn but I loved it I know it’s challenging because the 1st day with the 1st classroom I had children were amazing but do need a lot of attention they’re still babies and like I said I loved it , I wasn’t prepared as soon as I dropped off my son that day I got home then they called me from his school if I was available to work I said yes .. I didn’t get to pack anything breakfast lunch I got ready in 20 min and that was it . Monday I have to sub and I will definitely pack my lunch watching all the video I can for tips ❤oh and my sons school is from headstart/prek/prek4-2nd grade .
Love it! Thank you! I like to have also lozenges. Or some type of coat throat because of all the talking. Oh and for when 4 classes are having Recess at the same time… I have a whistle.
I usually try to carry pencils ✏. I also bring fun band aids (crayon shaped, batman ect.) Sometimes students want to go to the nurse for a tiny paper cut so carrying them helps.
Old fashioned counter bell, small shaker egg( used in music to keep the best) stickers and the candy store closed) small plastic musicians egg and a deck of cards with 3 tricks!
How often do you find teachers do not have any lesson plans for the entire day? Does the school essentially expect you to teach all the subjects with the class you are with for the entire day?
Is there a video about why you went from your own classroom to Subbing? 😬 Thank you!!! I’m debating!! Getting my credential soon! Just a RICA test away!
Hi, can you please share a video about what to do if you don't have any lesson plans ??? That terrifies me, I've never been a sub before but I'll be in January and I'm very nervous, plus English is not even my native language,I have an accent , idk if the student will make fun of me and stuff
Thank you for this great list. I am going to be subbing, but I am also still a classroom teacher part-time (long story). Anyway, I love following you because you put together the most comprehensive lists in everything that you post. I was wondering if you have ever put together an emergency sub packet? There is a good possibility that I might need an emergency sub binder prepped. I've looked at many, but truly rely on the awesome Susan Jones. : )
I did have a parent who believed yoga was against their religion despite my purpose of sitting cross legged ( so all had their own same space at carpet) and middle finger touching thumb solely for focus purpose( as I explained to the children) …

I usually try to bring a motivational book to read on my breaks or a notebook to write down any ideas for an upcoming lesson
I always bring a humorous book like Dustylocks and the 3 Bears etc. I also bring sticky notes.
Thanks for your list.

I would bring all of those things! I too would bring a bag of pencils to share with students. Anything to help the day go more smoothly. 🤗

I wish i could use these .the schools where i teach don't want us to use stickers etc
Where can I find a set of the brain breaks
Great simple suggestions! I love how organized your presentation was too. Very easy to follow.

Great tips. I didn’t think about getting books or a directive drawling.
Keep pens 🖊️ pens are a must . I like to bring stickers for my students as well.

Nice video! Super helpful :)
Thank you
Scored my teacher bags from 84hoods! Loving the practicality and style. Ready to rock the classroom with these beauties
For the directed drawing, do you give the directions to each student or do you use one on a document camera as you explain the directions?
I'm a substitute ❤and follower
Love your ideas 💗
Is there any good books or drawings for 6th grade or reinforcements for that grade level?
Aren't you supposed to follow the teacher's lesson plan for the day? Why do you include your own, to an extent?
She said that if there was extra time, she would do read-alouds/directed drawings as time fillers.
Why are all of you RUclipsrs always elementary teachers? I never see tips for high school teachers.
Yoga posses maybe against the religion of the children.
Exercising is against a religion ? 😳
I did have a parent who believed yoga was against their religion despite my purpose of sitting cross legged ( so all had their own same space at carpet) and middle finger touching thumb solely for focus purpose( as I explained to the children) …
Yoga is aganist my religion. Thank you for mentioning that. ❤️
Yoga exercise does not have to incorporate the false religion junk. It is just stretching and breathing deeply.
Yes a good reminder maybe to not word it as such, but perhaps just "now were gonna take deep breaths or stretch"
