[Intro] Prince Johnny, you're kind but you're not simple By now, I think I know the difference You wanna be a son of someone [Verse 1] Remember the time we went and snorted That piece of the Berlin Wall that you'd extorted And we had such a laugh of it? Prostrate on my carpet [Verse 2] You traced the Andes with your index And brag of when and where and who you gonna bed next All with sons of someone's All with sons of someone's [Chorus 1] Saw you pray to all to make you a real boy Saw you pray to all to make you a real boy [Verse 3] Prince Johnny, you're kind, but do be careful By now I know just when to stand clear When all your friends and acolytes are holding Court in bathroom stalls [Chorus 2] Where you pray to all to make you a real boy Saw you pray to all to make you a real boy [Bridge] But honey, don't mistake my affection For another spit-and-penny style redemption Cause we're all sons of someone's We're all sons of someone's I wanna mean more than I mean to you I wanna mean more than I meant to him [Chorus 3] So I pray to all to make me a real girl So I pray to all to make me a real girl So I pray to all, all, all, all
This young lady deserves a place at the table of the best singer songwriters and arrangers of all time. She's out there quietly creating something very few people can do on this level
I recently discovered St. Vincent, and have been listening to the back catalog. I must say. I haven't felt such excitement and admiration over another musician for over a decade. Such beautiful singing, stunning instrumental playing and great songwriting, very few musicians can successfully ride this profoundly powerful triangle. Thank you so much for all that you have created so far. You have inspired and encouraged me to start writing songs again. If you ever play in the UK, I will be there. I cannot fully express in words how your music has effected me, but at the very least I can say that it has changed my life, and it feels great. You have my love, support and best wishes.

What a superb, intelligent, talented artist St Vincent is. My personal opinion. Very creative. It's rewarding, interesting, to me that Jack Kerouac's Beat literary fans are still, 50+ years after his death, getting to enjoy art made in his image. I think it's wonderful that he still has an influence.
This is unfair... This is ridiculous. THIS IS GOD TIER. Wow Annie... Just wow. My life is once again complete. Can't wait for the 27th. House Of Blues, Boston. Oh my stars!
I know, right? Livenation almost fucked me over haha. I got my tickets though. Definitely do EVERYTHING in your power to make it, cuz it will be sooo worth it. Hope to see you there!
I'm stuck on how to interpret this song. The allusion to snorting pieces of the Berlin wall and bathroom stalls makes me think of cocaine and two wild friends wheeling through life. Slightly numb and not feeling like they fit in, trying to feel "real" or like the rest. To feel accepted and loved. Wheeling through life and people (when, and where and who you're gonna bed next), there's little stability and the prayers to become a real boy fall on deaf ears (hence the repetition, the prayers keep coming). Are the prayers in the form of fleeting intimacies - as in this is the way to belong and to fall in love and become a "real boy"? Then at the end Annie wonders if she's another forgettable check in this friend's itinerant life... and because she's also reaching out to belong and feel that love (being a son of someone, belonging to a structure) and she hoped it could be with that person so she could become a "real girl", and she prays too, like the friend, waiting for an answer that the friend is unwilling to give. Is that one way of looking at it..?
Robert Tully Hehe, well children aren't always as talented as their parents, even if they do share many similar characteristics. I was speaking more about style/tone than overall quality...though I don't think this song sucks by any means.
tear-inducing heights here, just brilliant on all fronts... and... actual creative BASS which has been missing from white alternative (whatevz) pop for too long - LOVE!
every time she hits that...you...know...THAT...part...I want to cry.
I feel the same
elrynx2 so you pray to allll allll allll
As soon as she says "prince Johnny" i want to cry. I love her so much.
elrynx2 well you get to a point where you hear it the first time in the song
@@CelineOracle It's the part from 3:07 - 3:18, specifically the "mean more than I meant to you..." part.
The beat, her throbbing, ethereal vocals, that eerie background choir, the sparse, grinding guitar...I'm in love.
Yes! everything about this song is fucking amazing! St.Vincent is Queen!
¡ESO!
St. Vincent is what happens when someone gives enough of a shit to write thoughtful, beautiful lyrics, and SICK, original beats.
TELL.IT.LIKE.IT.IS ! :') 👍
Yekay yeke You know it, girl.
AND has incredible talent, AND is willing to be vulnerable to the public. She is my hero.
[Intro]
Prince Johnny, you're kind but you're not simple
By now, I think I know the difference
You wanna be a son of someone
[Verse 1]
Remember the time we went and snorted
That piece of the Berlin Wall that you'd extorted
And we had such a laugh of it?
Prostrate on my carpet
[Verse 2]
You traced the Andes with your index
And brag of when and where and who you gonna bed next
All with sons of someone's
All with sons of someone's
[Chorus 1]
Saw you pray to all to make you a real boy
Saw you pray to all to make you a real boy
[Verse 3]
Prince Johnny, you're kind, but do be careful
By now I know just when to stand clear
When all your friends and acolytes are holding
Court in bathroom stalls
[Chorus 2]
Where you pray to all to make you a real boy
Saw you pray to all to make you a real boy
[Bridge]
But honey, don't mistake my affection
For another spit-and-penny style redemption
Cause we're all sons of someone's
We're all sons of someone's
I wanna mean more than I mean to you
I wanna mean more than I meant to him
[Chorus 3]
So I pray to all to make me a real girl
So I pray to all to make me a real girl
So I pray to all, all, all, all

Fantano's got a crush!

wkavre ????
FZmustacheFZ yeah, man. he doesn't care what opinionated dudes like you think.
wkavre OH SHIT no my bad, I thought you said "she's taken". No, I was asking you who was dating Annie, but yeah nevermind haha sorry
When this song ends, I feel an emptyness in my chest.
marcelo ratzkowski are you still alive?
When my chest ends, i feel an emptyness in this song
god are you kidding? I feel an emptiness throughout the entire song. smh
Then Huey Newton comes and everything is fixed
Most beautiful song i ever heard.. seen her perform this live three times and it still brings a tears.. Long Live St. Vincent!!
she never played anything slow for the three shows I've seen high energy sings only in NYC
that bass or very dark low pitched guitar on the chorus is unbelieveble. everything is beautiful.
That's a guitar, and it is a perfect example of Annie's mastery of her craft. She has *all* the chops, but only uses them to serve the music
Her slow tempo jams move me deep within.
They stir my loins!
mmm
Yum
Isnt this the only one they have?
@@ZomgWowzersBlastoise check out Landmines, Dilettante, and Live in the Dream!
please tell me i'm not the only one who feels softly strangled while listening this...
Your really not
Not alone
coming back to this after listening to happy birthday, johnny.
yeeeeeee same

Prince Johnny is the Dilettante of her new album and they both remain my favorite St. Vincent songs.
This song represents me spiritually.
assuming the spiritual exists
Calm down Nietzsche
flake
Best song of the album. "Every Tear Disappears" is fantastic too.
Radiohead fan?
This song is incredible.
One of the best songs on this amazing album
Such a unique and talented artist. Glad we have such beauties like her making music with creativity and originality.
I can't get this song out of my head. I can't wait for the new album!!
Annie Clark, you are so special and talented.
This is unfair... This is ridiculous. THIS IS GOD TIER. Wow Annie... Just wow. My life is once again complete. Can't wait for the 27th. House Of Blues, Boston. Oh my stars!
I'm trying so damn hard to be able to make that show. Don't know if it's gonna be possible though, damn real life.
I know, right? Livenation almost fucked me over haha. I got my tickets though. Definitely do EVERYTHING in your power to make it, cuz it will be sooo worth it. Hope to see you there!
Thank you for existing.
Haven't listened to this in maybe two years - even better and even more resonant now.
This song is literally beauty put into words. 😻
Oh, Annie, you speak to my lost soul.........
Happy Birthday, Johnny
I can't believe this song was on iZombie! :D I'm so happy!
The show is the reason why i'm here. Both awesome
This sounds a lot more like Strange Mercy. I can dig it!
How could anyone possibly dislike this?
Just found this and..Mind blown. On repeat.
This LP is great. Prince Johnny, Huey Newton & Digital Witness one after the other. As good as it gets.
Thank you for not using any voice harmonizer, auto-tune and silicone.
Peter Kroll, Singapore
ahaha that last part got me

Prolly.
Haha, shitty deconstruction but from the reading I've done Annie is poetic but literal so prolly indeed.
Wheelsgr No, it was a good read!
Wheelsgr wow .........................
In an interview she said that this is about one of those self-destructive friends that, no matter what you try, you just can't save them.
0:50 idk why this part stands out to me the most. It just feels like watching someone do the most simplest thing yet still being in awe.
I'm heavily addicted to her music.
MASTERPIECE 🎼🎵🎶🎙
LOVE IT❤
this song hits me so deeply
already one of the best singles of 2014, breathtaking
absolutely perfect
Hello again n_n
+ಠ_ృ again?
Olivia Sun
I've seen you around a few times. Remember? I replied to one of your Mr. Robot related comments, but it's okay if you don't remember me xD
+ಠ_ృ Ohh that one did blow up. Lol, nice to hear from you (again)-Congrats on your music taste!
Olivia Sun Likewise! And an equally good taste in TV! *(> ^-^)>
I love St. Vincent and all her music!!!
Don't compare her to them, she's on a completely different level. Her music exudes authenticity.
Annie sounds warmer than ever! Wanting to connect... very refreshing.
stunning music
Beautiful. As. Fuck.
+Lucas Mota absolutely agree. I could have this on repeat for hours.
She is brilliant. Something truly special
As of right now this is my FAVORITE SONG! on this album.
The ambiance is fucking impeccable
Best one yet from the new LP!
10 yea ago.NOW 24 ❤
Those drums.
Thanks, John.
This is like the spiritual love child of Prince & Kate Bush....great!
Visually, yes! Talent wise ... mm.
Robert Tully Hehe, well children aren't always as talented as their parents, even if they do share many similar characteristics. I was speaking more about style/tone than overall quality...though I don't think this song sucks by any means.
First St. Vincent song I've heard....
Yes.
mine too :)
She's awesome
Why voice is sounds so amazing?
The guitar on the background playing in the verses are so good
It melts my heart. I love John.
srsly, I almost never ever buy albums these days, but I'll be purchasing this CD the day it drops.
St Vincent's music is so real and floaty and raw and I love it.
Sueño con un trabajo en conjunto entre St vincent y Bjork.... Sería perfección pura.... Love!!!
my heart just melted...
She & the band R the REAL Deal.
this is so wonderful. ahh.
This is the best song yet!
Bjork is Alt Queen St is Alt Princess
I love both. Bjork is amazing though for sure. I don't think she ever gets as much attention as she deserves.
lawreneph she's a hidden gem just like St. Vincent.
Thank You
♡
Good to see some other Bjork fans down here
Thanks St Vincent!
I love that choral synth pad. Kind of sounds like a mellotron, but it also kind of sounds like it was built from a vocal sample of Annie.
Reminds me of Radiohead's Exit Music effect a the end of the song too! Love it.
new york and happy birthday johnny
This is so beautiful.
This song kills me every time ! LOL sob sob sob !!
So beautiful I found this on PANDORA GURL YOU DO GOOD YAS BOO BOO.
I adore this record.
Another brilliant St. Vincent song. My favorite is still "Marrow" from Actor but this tune is great as well.
I just can't stop listen to this song >
This rules omg annie this album is going to be the greatest thing the music world has like ever seen
so who is Prince Johnny? this song has such a nice groove. in fact all 3 of the tracks released so far are rhythmically awesome
It's me :)
Here because of iZombie. Thank you iZombie for introducing me to this awesome song. The show has a great music supervisor.
Such a class song. Best one on that album by miles. Not that the others were bad but they really didn't click with me like the rest of her albums did.
This is great! First heard on BBC 6 Music a couple of weeks ago.
So far, already album of the year for me!
This is building to be the best st. Vincent album yet
izombie + Shazam = This Moment of joy
Lionheart Mind Explosion I swear! ❤️👌🏾
Definitely my favourite track of those so far dropped. With this track, I have renewed interest in the album. Güd werk
tear-inducing heights here, just brilliant on all fronts... and... actual creative BASS which has been missing from white alternative (whatevz) pop for too long - LOVE!
For a while I was just listening to her old stuff... But I love this song :)
scent of Abba, wonderfull...
I love that keyboards

This is really good. I love all of your new songs so far.
This is way better than Digital Witness.
Why compare? Both are great songs...
holy. shit.
