Tom Baker is the most Doctor-ish Doctor that ever Doctored. He is awesome! Plus, Dalek backstory thrown in for good measure. This story is full of Dalek origin information.
One of the favourites of classic Doctor Who, it’s dark and full of mystery. Tom is a great age now, and has outlived so many of the actors who played his companions
Tom Baker is one of the most popular and definitive most recognised Doctors of the Classic Who era and the longest serving along with his iconic scarf and hat, teeth and curly hair he is the Fourth incarnation of the Doctor he was also the first Doctor i watched as a kid and one of my favourites.
As others have said, this is very far from being the first dalek story. It’s the dalek origin story, and it’s rightly considered one of the stone-cold classics!
Loved your reaction. You asked if this was one of the longest stories, 6 parters were a common length during the 60s and 70s. There were also 7 part stories durinf the st abd 3rd doctors eras and 8 parters during the 2nd doctors era. There was also a 10 part story in the 2nd doctor era, and even a 12 part dalek story in the 1st doctors era
This is the first story i remember watching at age 4 and apparently it terrified me :-) - although i m told i m told iwas fine watching 3rd doctor versus the daleks..... Will be interesting to see what you make of it.
When I think of the Quintessential Doctor, it's this one. It is sad to see so many people talking spoiling that the Daleks and Davros appear in other episodes.
First off, before I even watch this (this comment will be edited later for after I watch), I'm Reading comments and it seems you didn't realize that was Sarah Jane immediately, please tell me you realized eventually. Edited after watching: so after watching, first things first, the intro, this is my favorite version, TARDIS, Time Vortex, shot of Tom Baker's face, and it's also why I really like the Version in series 1-4 of New who, the iconic shot of the TARDIS flying through the blue time vortex, all that version is missing is a shot of David Tennants face (or Eccelston's in Series 1). Second, I really love Davros in this story and like most people agree this is probably the best portrayal of him in the entire series. Third, from what I'm seeing so far, glad you are enjoying this story as much as alot of us do, it really is, a *classic*
I'll have to correct you there without spoiling anything this is not the first Dalek story or the first to introduce them the Daleks have been around since the First, Second and Third Doctors but it is the first to introduce it's creator Davros. I'm also very surprised you didn't recognise Sarah Jane Smith who you saw in the David Tennant episode "School Reunion" in Series 2 of NuWho. Skaro is the home planet of the Daleks the Kaleds and the Thals are different species all live in the same planet and have been in war with one another The Daleks were based on World War II nazis.
The level of danger they drop.him into in that minefield, and the absurd precariousness of the time ring, is irrational towards actually wanting him to succeed. It spoils the story for me. When I have posted this before, I guy a reply that maybe the Time Lords intentionally wanted a high chance that he would not survive this adventure
Is there any longer stories? There was a 12 part (22 minutes each) First Doctor story but we don't have all of it. Second Doctor's final serial is 10 parts. Harry is his attending physician for post regeneration observation. The Daleks have a basis in the World Wars, you can see the trench warfare & the industrial nations at war motifs. Scarf wasn't meant to be that long but they never told the lady what length they wanted, so she used up all the wool. This is where it started - not just for Daleks. Russell cited the Doctor's mission as kicking off for the Time War. As with the Franz Ferdinand assassination, it all falls down from that.
No spoilers but this is not the very first story of the Daleks the Daleks is with the First second and third doctor also but yhh, and Sarah Jane u met before with David Tennant on series 2
The titles don't really give away anything its just something of the something but it doesn't always necessarily relate to tbe story it most times turns out to be a red herring.
The female companion is Sarah Jane Smith You met her in 'School reunion' S2 Ep 3 of New Who.

Finally a great classic episode...
One of the favourites of classic Doctor Who, it’s dark and full of mystery. Tom is a great age now, and has outlived so many of the actors who played his companions
And he’s still amazing as the Doctor today with Big Finish audio dramas. His voice never aged and his energy is the same.

You have met "the woman companion" before :D :D

Not first dalek story, but it’s the first story with the dalek’s creator davros. Who the doctor is also meeting for the first time
It’s an outstandingly good classic who story.
In retrospect, this may be the most important episode of Doctor Who in terms of the significance of this story.
What a classic! Love seeing you react to classic who
Omg my favourite episodes. My favourite doctor. And the nostalgia is hitting hard.
Perfect timing

There's a certain Time War mentioned in quite a bit of modern Doctor Who, and arguably, this story is the first shots, fired by the Time Lords.
My Doctor.

I haven't watched this lol, i'm on season 2 at the moment :)
A good pick before you see the return of Davros.

Well, it does spoil it if she had no idea they would be in other episodes, which is a shame.
@@sallyatticum Since she watches it out of context and doesn't know when and where they turn up it's not really spoilery.

Christopher Eccleston didn't have a long coat.
He had a leather jacket didn't he?
