Responsible hunting for the purpose of feeding one’s family, for instance, utilizes as much of the animal as possible and shows respect for the sacrifice. Rodeo sports are overseen by people who benefit from the health of their animals and includes a culture of caring for those animals as partners rather than possessions. Now having said that, I believe there will always be people who feel differently but the vast majority of the voices I’ve heard/words I’ve read share my HUGE reactions.

Therefore, they become surplus to their requirements, and are promptly shot or go into the food chain. It's a well known within the equestrian world what's goes on. It's so sad for these ponies.

Polo "ponies" used to be exactly that and were usually around 14.2hh which is borderline between a pony and a horse (in the UK). In modern day they can be typically around 15.1hh but also over 16hh. The shorter they are in the spine the quicker a horse will turn. I don't play Polo; my sport was show jumping, but I know a couple of people that do at low level and a groom who worked at a top Polo yard. The horses are extremely valuable and thus exceptionally well looked after with 24hr access to vets, dentists, farriers etc. I think if you are looking at horse abuse take a look at high level Dressage!

I visited a professional polo pony ranch years ago, where they were "trained" and "cared for" etc, and they were all incredibly agitated and nervous horses. Even when "off duty" they were all wide-eyed and upset, and looked like they all had PTSD.

They must be doing something evil. I had a small 1/4 horse that could cut and rope all day. She never suffered and definitely never fell down dead. When I tryed to give her a day off and use another horse she would literally pout at me and try to make me feel bad. In my defence this post is the first time I even seen polo.
