Ok, I apologize for using the word "hack" in this manner but unfortunately it's permeated our culture such that there's not an accurate synonym. Regardless, over the last 4 months I've been participating in the Reels Bonus Play program on Instagram. This program pays creators money based on how many views Reels rack up. In my time posting and earning I've learned exactly what (currently) the Instagram algorithm prioritizes when pushing reels. In this video I share my experience, as well as explain how you can perform this "hack" shudders too.

April '22 Update: my reels bonus play was adjusted to 11 million views to earn the same $1200 per month. So now I have to achieve 10x the views for the same payment.
November '22 Update: I feel like reels have extremely limited reach now and I barely post them because combined with the price change from April they make no money.

Hey. Can you use ads. I had 100k on a reel. However, it was only 1$ earned towards the bonus. Is it because of the ads?
My bonus is $1200 for 11m views, the first $100 comes in ~20,000 views and then it takes another ~10,880,000 for the next $1100. Luckily my stuff has been popular enough to reach the $1200 but this video shows such an easier way of doing it lol. I hope they fixed it cause this is broken af.

I’m on my first month, trial started the 7th of December, I have 5 reels and I believe the cap is $50. Is it 5 reels for the month I get to bonus or do they reset and I get more?

My question is: How does Instagram know these people are creating reels because of you? What if these people put the phone down and 30 mins later they make the reel?

How does Instagram know? It doesn’t matter whether you complete the reel, if you press the button to navigate and make your own reel (via audio, effect, or camera icon in top right), Instagram knows.

I think a lot has changed since you posted this, I see it's 8 months ago. For instance, some of the stuff you recommend appears to not be allowed now (at least from the rather densely worded policies I had to read this morning when I joined). But I am curious about the music catalog offered when you create as well as audio clips that you didn't create. I've seen in some FB groups that reels that use music/audio clips will not be monetized. Your video makes clear to use these for full effect. So I feel like right now things are really in transition.
Monetizing and bonuses are two different things just fyi. Didn’t know this either until today.

View my video > tap “color blind” (near description) > hit “use effect” at the bottom of the screen, then it will open in your own reel.

It’s only available on “Creator” accounts, so business accounts nor personal accounts qualify.
My account is a business account and I got it. It can be either.

i have total of 55k plays of my reels, but only 65 followers, i still did not receive bonus invitation !!
can you please give me an idea about the start !! (1st invitation comes usually before 100k despite number of followers ??)
There is no clear level or figure that triggers invitation to bonus.
Great video I had a question and was hoping to see if you could shed some light. I have just had my 1st month of bonus done and was curious on the payout. I was offered $35k for 349 million views. So at the end of the month it says I received approx ($dollar) amount earned in bonus reels, however the payout was actually MUCH much less. Have you experienced that?
Yes, I understand your concern. The bonus play period and the "fiscal" period (time frame that payments are calculated) do not align. So while you may have accumulated $X during the bonus play period, the fiscal period may have only been the first 5 days of the bonus play period. So you only received 5/30 days worth of payment since it's your first, and the rest will be on the next payment (along with some of the next bonus play month).

the eligibility restrictions are laid out in this video. If / when you'll get it, is entirely up to instagram.

Was your account like reposting other content or was it original content ?
Have you found making reels with good engagement (educational, or tailored to your audience, etc) has helped your follower count/engagement with future photos etc that you've posted?
(Rob) Well, I’ve been sharing BTS for a long time, and while it’s definitely improved my reach/engagement, it’s also been over such a long period that it’s diminished by instagram’s constant reduction in organic reach. For instance, I have photos that got 2000 likes and 100+ comments in 2017….when I had 2000 followers. Now I have 48K and I have posts that don’t hit that level. The algorithm these days stops the reach of a post way faster if it isn’t hitting certain engagement metrics.
In general I think BTS is huge for anyone looking to grow their account. It doubles the appeal, as it becomes a resource in addition to being a photo someone can visually appreciate.

The payment period does not align with the bonus play period. So the payment window closed when you had $231 earned, and the remaining money will be added to next month.

Highly doubt it, I mean even if you could convince the app you were in the US, it’s by no means certain you’ll get the offer, and then it would fall apart when you go to put in payment details and that’s in Europe.
Hi, I understand this is your experience, but I think for most, like my self, a beginner, this is very unrealistic. I'm trying to get jyst a small xrtra income set up due to inflation. Does anybody know how to get monetized on Instagram in the first place?
Unfortunately there's no clear path. But it is still in a roll out phase so it hasn't broadened much yet. I would say to move up the list, having regular activity specifically in reels / live (where the payments are), should help. This monetization program is interesting because it's not limited to giants, and lots of average-sized accounts are getting it.
I keep ignoring the offer to monetize my reels. I think IG is upset and my views and engagement are going down

I stopped posting on my IG page that has almost 13k. I just am busy. But I just got the bonus today. Another RUclipsr said they send it to people not posting. That makes sense because I really don’t post. I posted today and got over 50k views in an hour 🤯

And at some point you stop getting paid for a post/reel. So it doesn’t matter how well the reel does you stop getting paid at some point. Like I said that post is almost 100k. I got $100 once it hit 80k. After that I’m not getting paid for it anymore. Now I’m getting paid off my other reels. Some of my other post hit 20k-30k. But like I said lol. Your posts has to go viral to see any real money. Smh. Sorry for the repeat. Just making sure I make sense lol.
