    Good explanation isn't difficult to read the on measuring tape by ft. this is a key that you can read the correct elevation or grade to your slope totally.thanks very interesting

    I have a question. We are looking at land in northern maine and on the realtors listing for this lot it said 150' of frontage but on the surveyers map I got if you add up the numbers across the front it comes out to 429.5' . We went to the property and found the pins the surveyer put in and walked the gravel road that goes across the front of the land and it's definitely way more than 150' so would you use the numbers on the survey map for the frontage?

    • @Surveyorjoe
      @Surveyorjoe  3 года назад

      I live out in southern California, so the word "frontage" can mean either a portion of the property that is improved for access such as lake access, or an entrance. Make sure there are no easements with restrictions to your property. My first guess is they are talking about access.

    • @BLAM777

      @@Surveyorjoe thanks for the reply. There is a easement it's 50' or 25' for both sides of the gravel road so telephone poles can be put in. I talked to the utility companys guy who is in charge of that to make sure they can't put a power line right down the center of the property.

    • @Surveyorjoe
      @Surveyorjoe  3 года назад

      They may be using the word frontage in use of the word setback. The 150' frontage may be referring to the front yard. Many times there are minimum house setbacks from the front property line. So if the land has no house on it now, you will find the house will need to be a minimum amount of feet from the property line due to future improvements, utility easements.... same with the side yard with residential homes.

    This was a great Video. My property is shaped like a baseball field. The back corner has a marker that's 28.3' so is this 28.3 is it a quarter of a foot😣.
    I don't want to cross the property line.
    Thanks

    • @Surveyorjoe
      @Surveyorjoe  3 года назад

      Yes, property is measured in tenths. Only architect plans use inches

    • @mzwisdom7504

      @@Surveyorjoe Thank you for responding. Did I guess it right? It's 3 tenths of a foot.

    • @Surveyorjoe
      @Surveyorjoe  3 года назад +1

      0.30 is not a quarter of a foot, that would be 0.25. Think of dollar and cents. 28.30 would be about 28' 3-3/8"

    Hey man I work construction on dirt work setting final grade for concrete guys, my boss gave me 50tenths to use whether to subtract or add depending on the what the steak says and I had a stake that said .55 tenths so that would be negative -.05 does that mean it needs to be 5 hundredths above that nail? If so how do I measure that

    • @Surveyorjoe
      @Surveyorjoe  3 года назад

      5 hundredths (0.05) is half a tenth . If I read your comment correctly, you were given a half of foot ruler marked with 5 tenths? Did the stake say F-0.55 or C-0.55? Either way the cut or fill should be from the top of nail. So you would have to either add or subtract the 5 hundredths with is about 7/16"

    I think all tapes should be in tenths the twelve inch foot is hard to read and hard to remember.
