"Take rankings with a grain of salt" is definitely true. I go to UC Santa Cruz and it isn't ranked *incredibly* high for marine biology on some websites, but it's supposedly the #1 most referenced institution for marine bio lol.

I'm applying for graduate school right now and so far I heard back from and spoke on the phone with 2 professors at the university of the Virgin Islands. One of them is doing research on marine debris and I spoke to the other professor about potentially conducting research on how sedimentation from cruise ships affect corals. The school is not ranked very well but I've heard from word of mouth that their coral research is good. I would want to work in the U.S. and not the Virgin Islands after my masters and I don't know if doing a masters there would confine me to that region. I also heard back from a professor at UC Santa Barbara that is looking for a student to study sea bass. That project is mostly computer based and wouldn't involve any field work which is something I didn't like. Lastly, I was looking at a professional masters at Duke and spoke to a professor there who studies whale behavior. I want to be able to get a job (wildlife biologist) with NOAA or US fish and wildlife after my master's and I'm not sure which school would be best to go to for that. Do you know if a thesis masters would be better or professional masters to get a job with one of the above agencies?

Quick Question...So I LOVE your videos. I am planning on getting my scuba certification over the summer but I know that there are a lot of costs that tag along with the certification, such as purchases for equipment. I'd love to get my own scuba gear but I don't really know about the scuba diving world enough to feel confident in my purchases. Any chance you can do a video all about scuba diving? I don't know where I'd be able to scuba dive. Are people allows to just walk into the water wherever (obviously on public property). I'd be interested in the specifics before I make the investment. It would also be good to know since I am focusing on marine biology in college.

Hey Jacklyn! Thank you so much for the compliments :)! I’ll try to work on a video all about diving, but I did want to acknowledge that you definitely don’t need a full set of dive gear to get started! I have over 100 dives and still don’t own anything other than a mask, snorkel, and fins.

As for where you’d be able to dive, of course there are restrictions with private property and safety concerns, but you’d be shocked to know where all you’re able to!

When you say « look up » where are you looking up these grad programs. Or is it you are contacting Pi’s or their labs organizer and asking them if they have a grad program.
