Brings back memories. I worked on the line that built these and full size Pontiacs. The line ran 85 cars per hour. Haven't been back to Pontiac, Michigan. Hear it's a ghost town.

Nice car. The 428 has larger than stock mains, and was known as Pontiac's Nascar engine. Had one transplanted into an 80 Trans Am. It ran well. ;-) Thumb up for posting this beast.

The fasted I have ever gone in a car was a 1969 Pontiac Grand Prix. We topped out at 150 mph. I wasn't driving and it was the scariest ride I've ever been involved with. That was 50 years ago and I remember it like it was yesterday.

Got up to 135mph in my girlfriends 73 GP, could've gone faster, but I saw visions of the original Mad Max movie when Max's comrades hit a van & it goes flying. I involuntarily slowed Down, then.

This car brings back 🔙 nice memories in 1978 I bought one exactly like this one mine had 400 motor 4 barrel carburetor back lifted with big wide tires those cars are fast enough to pickup from 0 to 60 4"6 seconds and top speed 153 miles I'am stll crying because myounger brother kill it crashed in to a big ok tree i learned my lesson not to let no one borrow mine car ever again so you don't let no body drive or borrow your vehicle'
I tried to find another pontiac but no luck late 80's this from 1969 to 1972 was no longer available they staring to disappear 1969 still my favorite Grand prix 🏆

I owned two 1969 Pontiac Grand Prix cars, one was a J model and one was an SJ. The SJ Model had only two large headlights and the Model J was the basic model with four small headlights. The Model J came with the 400 cubic inch engine with automatic transmission and the Model SJ came with the 428 and choice of an automatic or 4-Speed transmission.
In late 1969 they began the manufacturing of the 1970 Grand Prix SJ which has four small headlights. What you have here is a beautiful 1970 Pontiac Grand Prix Model SJ manufactured in late 1969. Everything is correct on this car, just as you have presented the car. I often think of my two 1969 Grand Prix cars.

Very nice car either the 4 speed or AC was added aftermarket, as Pontiac did not add both in the car at the same time. On another note, does anyone remember the Pontiac " whistle" these cars would make when you drove them a above 50mph. That was when you knew a Pontiac was coming down the road. Especially the GranPrix and a few others. It was the only car to have that distinctive sound. Ah!, what memories!

This and 1970 were my favorites. Probably because of the quad headlights, not to mention after '70 the horsepower started to decline pretty rapidly... But yeah, this is a nice looking vehicle. I'd like to see exactly how the build sheet looks to see how close it is to how it came off the assembly line - just out of curiosity. Either way I'd love to own it!

Hello William Meyer, I agree 100%...the '69 & '70 Pontiac GP are beautiful cars.
If this black SJ is an original 4spd, it is SUPER RARE. I think Pontiac made less than 300 4spd Gran Prix in 1969 & fewer than 100 in 1970.
The major redesign of the 1969 Gran Prix was the concept & design of John Delorean.
      I've owned two '75 Gran Prix...a 400 LJ & a 455 SJ. Honestly, I LOVED them as much as
      my '67 & '69 GTOs...which I still have & drive regularly. 🙂
      Best regards,
      Ben

Awesome cockpit dash, some had red striped tires. Hard to see out of the sides from the back seat. Prefer the white interior option, dont think GM offered leather, only on Caddies. Most stereo packages were stolen out of the dashboard. AM/FM with 8 track stereo.

@@JimCherkowsky Jim = you are correct. There were two versions of the 428 engine for the 69 GP. A 370 horsepower and a 390 horsepower = HO. You could get the 428/370 engine and A/C and a 4 speed, but if you wanted the 428/390 and a 4 speed, then the A/C was not available.
