It took me a few years to learn this. Pulling our kids out of the ps system was a struggle, we spent a year just trying to mimic what can’t work at home. I went through a year or two of truly wanting to do so much that I was so anxious that it made me question homeschooling, once I deleted all my social media and didn’t have anymore outside noise, it became a fresh of breath air. We are now wrapping up our 6th year homeschooling, definitely minimally, and have loved every minute of it, even the days that are hard. 💫 Pure gold, *”Knowing why you are doing this is going to make you okay with doing as much as you can and not as much as you think you have to do”.* 💫

431 through 450 is my favorite part throughout the entire video the video blessed me but there's something about her little concentration and her passion for painting and being able to still concentrate on her siblings pass by her was so cute to me and it makes me miss the younger years
Well said. My son is a September baby and we started him in kindergarten curriculum in the middle of this past year, even thought technically he was in preK, because he was ready to read and do math. And he loves it. We still give him plenty of time to play and create. I didn't stress him learning his letters and numbers until he turned 5; then he was ready, and he learned it all very quickly. Both of my older kids love their school subjects and our days, because we go at a pace they can absorb it all, and we have curriculum that's fun and repetitive (in a fun way), and we also go on lots of "field trips" and see our friends - they remember every outting we have, what people said, things they saw. Those are the important things. I feel so blessed to be able to homeschool!

You are right we need to personalize their learning this is one of the main reasons we choose to homeschool. Mu son was very smart in public school but they would look at one subject and never see it again. He was not learning like he should. We now focus on mastery. Math is just addition, or subtraction, times tables and division. So we may take one or two months on each until I run out of problems to give him. This helps him have a better sense of relationship numbers and eventually do mental math on complicated problems. For LA we do the same thing I make sure he learns and masters one thing then we move on. Anything well learnt is not easily unlearned.

Good for you! I also homeschool with a minimalist approach. I was severely traumatized by the public school system. So I pulled my 5th grade special needs son out and have been homeschooling him for 3 years now. I took my daughter out of school with covid and did not take her back. We are taking our time and not trying to look like public school in any way! It has been the best decision I have ever made!
I am a minimalist with my homeschool stuff but not my homeschool mind or my homeschool goals. And you have just shown me that my goal should be teaching to the learner and not the from the books. Thanks soo much for giving me that piece of mind. I exhaust myself trying to cure and solve my child’s dyslexia and trying to catch her reading up to ‘level’. Whatever that is anyway…. Again thanks!!
Love it you said it well! That’s why I homeschool my kids and of course other reasons but your right!!! In higher grades we can focus on the core work and more but we push what society thinks interest of what we believe to be the proper education for our individual children!!!
Loved this message! As we enter into our second year homeschooling, I feel like my focus on my "why" is becoming even sharper. Part of my homeschools vision statement talks about MASTERING skills like reading, writing, and arithmetic, in order to become the best learner the student is capable of becoming. I feel like without mastering those skills, focusing on "enchanting" or "engaging all their senses" with a dazzling and involved curriculum or plan is pretty pointless. Like you said, even if I present a full and robust feast of information, it won't mean anything if I haven't equipped my students well to learn it! So for this upcoming year, I'm focusing my 3rd, 2nd, and Kinder kiddos on MASTERING their basic academic skills and fostering independence in learning. We'll still do Science and History in co-op with our friends but the day-to-day work will simply focus on mastery. The fluff and wonder and enchantment is great but I want excellent learners first, THEN we can work on creating learners who love learning. 🥰

Also my kindergarten boy plays all day, with play money, alphabet manipulatives, games puzzles, drawing painting singing, reciting. I do not test him ever and he learns mostly on his own. He is very chipper and responsible every morning as he takes all his games out.

I am always feeling like we need to hurry and 'catch her up' to grade level. She's going in to 2nd grade and is 7.5 and is still barely able to sound out words so it's been a struggle.
Does anyone know a good, secular & comprehensive core knowledge workbook that I could use for my daughter. She’ll be starting 1st grade in August and I don’t want a bunch of clutter & an easy way to keep track of her progress. I also would like to find a comprehensive & affordable online option in case she wants a break from traditional school work. Any suggestions or advice would be well appreciated…
I just googled to make sure but Target has the Big First Grade book. Those have all the core subjects. We used versions like that in the past. Sometimes I rip out certain subjects to use. Also if you want free options teachers pay teachers has so many options. You’d just need to filter her grade and free. Then you just download and print. Edit: online options: abcmouse and ixl
To register you have an age window (at least 1 year )if your homeschooling, I am more speaking of the pressures to start a child's education by a certain age.

We are always learning, but I think pushing academics too early is detrimental to true education, this is clearly a move to alter the family bond, and have women working.

It can be so trying when your have a child that seems "slower" to pick up learning new things, but stick with it!
I feel you. Ive been trying to 'catch up' too. My child is 5th grade and is in 2nd grade reading. But i go slow and take one day at a time.

We don't have to register here until the child reaches 6.5 years old - which state is 5 ?
