um... think of an apple, or any object: how do you perceive an apple? "Science" claims that photons hit the retina of the eye, and this excites the optic nerve, which sends electric pulses to the brain, where they are interpreted as an apple. The problem is, electricity has no shape, form, color, taste, texture, smell, and so on. So an immediate question is: how does "the brain" know how an apple looks like? But the big question comes when you think of a dream. A dream is a construction in the absolute absence of any external input - your eyes are closed, there's no photons hitting the retina of the eye, and there's no electric signal coming from the optic nerve. YET, you see stuff in the dream. So the big question is: what exactly is the difference between dream and reality? Stating that in a dream you don't experience the complexity or stuff that you experience in reality, ignores the question of "how do you see an apple". I repeat: assuming that there is an objective reality outside of "us", we never experience that! We only experience a construct of "our brain" or "mind" or "whatever is that which creates that which we experience". I hope my argument is not confusing, as I am but a student of these matters. for example, Cobb and Mal stand for Apollo and Diana, the twin god of the gnostics, Nolan being an artist commissioned to represent the gnostic doctrine, in films for the profane. Apollo is lost on earth (the underworld), while Mal is out there, waiting for Apollo to free himself from the world of the dead. Dreaming is a symbol for not being alive - see They Live! by John Carpenter. This Twin God pattern, you can observe it in quite a few Hollywood movies - eg. in Star Wars - Luke the Skywalker (Lucifer, that is, Apollo), and his twin sister Leia (Alia - the exalted one), also in The Maze Runner - Thomas (twin) and Teresa (Tyre, Lucifer, the high one, the rock). Blade Runner 2049 - Agent K (Alef, God) has a twin sister Ana Stelline (the star)
@stellvia hoenheim No, my friend. That's not "just" Michael Caine, it's the man to whom the director himself practically revealed the ending. He didn't made that up. So you're saying "if it wasn't there it didn't happen". Bullshit. With that logic, Nolan says in interviews that the ending is meant to be subjective, but who cares cuz "nowhere in the movie it's shown it's subjective", right? And obviously you care since you made the effort to write me a comment in the first place.
So, Nolan says the ending is subjective. That claim is after the movie's release. This Michael Caine's claim must have happened during its production, since he is saying "when i got the script". Either Nolan changed the ending mid-production by cutting the scene or he's just fucking with Caine or he's fucking with all of us (though i think that's not true)
My favorite part of these reviews is when Garyx is serious, if only for a few seconds, in his examination of the movie's themes. Then he goes all kerblooey and what the what?
Cobb is young because he re-entered limbo when he drowned in the first dream level bc they didn't get him out of the van. Something must've killed him in limbo which sent him back to level 1, where he drowned and got to limbo decades after Saito.
It's a late reply but what an obvious observation that was missed. Enjoyed your take. If I can add something to this... what would it mean to rest of team? They were submerged in water too. Also that water is "dream water" so does it really kill him? Also there are scenes where Cobb has wedding ring and then doesn't which to me suggests that is his totem. This is such a fun movie to comment on
I'll be uploading to both channels (Wisecrack and Alien's Guide) for the next few months, then I'll finally be FREEEEEEE!! :-P With this dedicated channel, I'm hoping to be able to upload new episodes more often!
Lol. The dradel is not ambiguous. Interpretation is overshadowing common sense. The dradel stops wandering and begins to wobble in place. It IS stopping it just cut away early.
It is not meant to stop. There are two places in which Cob could have been caught up in his dream in the movie. Maybe he wasn't, but even he himself doesn't know. He chose to believe this to be reality a long time ago.
you got my thumbs up the moment you made the gunk in your eyes joke, made me realise how true that was..
He just solved one scientific theory everyone's been thinking about...

There’s a chair? This raises so many questions about Garex’s species.
I know right? I always thought he was standing.
Me too! I was like: Wait, what? You're sitting on a chair? And the whole time I thought you were standing...
This is gettin' crazier 'n' crazier.
Him sitting makes so much sense when you think about it, but yeah I always thought he was standing????
“So naturally it is very simplistic and easy to unpack”

Yes new channel, love it! More Garyx Wormuloid, my favorite humanoid alien!
I'm sorry but to me he'll always be second after Spock.
In a recent interview, Michael Caine said that in every scene he was on it's in the real world, not in a dream. So the gyro-thing falls at the end.
