A young looking Steve Earle performing Transcendental Blues is great. I have seen Steve Earle in concert three times and have a picture of him and me in my dining room.
I wasn't sure about Longmire as it was recommended to me by my in-laws. Once I heard the first episode open with this song I knew I was in for a treat.
Jessica C This whole album is good. I liked TB the first time I saw him play it on TV. But after buying and listening to the CD I wasn't as taken by the rest of the songs. But I hung tough and listened to it a couple more times. After about the third time I realized that indeed, every song on that album is good! One of my favorite albums of all time, for sure.
This is a fantastic album, I ran out and bought it after watching this program. I'll have to admit it took me a few listens to make it grow on me, and it did! Not a bad song on it! I saw him in Seattle when he was out supporting the CD, and I still have my ticket stub inside the CD case.
Going to Steve's concert tonight at the Paramount in Austin. He's in the Top Five Americans for me, the others being Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Captain Beefheart, and of course, Bruce!
n the darkest hour of the longest night If it was in my power I'd step into the light Candles on the alter, penny in your shoe Walk upon the water - transcendental blues Happy ever after 'til the day you die Careful what you ask for, you don't know 'til you try Hands are in your pockets, staring at your shoes Wishing you could stop it - transcendental blues
@007brush Hi there....Steve is playing an electric: An Epiphone Casino. The lead guitarist is playing a Gibson Les Paul Special w/ P90 pickups. The bassist is playing what looks like a '51 Fender P-Bass. (The early P-bass models had Tele style headstocks)
A lot of the grunge guys who lived to tell about it went folk/Americana. Kurt Cobain more or less accidentally created Steve's son Justin's sound, so it's very possible, given that Kurt was very much all about old-school blues and country. Before he passed, it was suggested by King Buzzo to him that he should do a solo acoustic tour. The possibilities would have been lovely. And it sure as shit would have been dope to see Steve and Kurt share a stage.
I guess this is one of those rare times when it doesn't matter. Just listen to that sound, its perfect. Though you should do yourself a favour and look up the lyrics. also perfect.
Last Verse If I had it my way, everything would change Out here on this highway the rules are still the same Back roads never carry you where you want 'em to They leave you standin' there with them ol' transcendental blues
@YaroKior and @niuniek777 Nirvana was a great band, but if you folks think that is where the influences are here, you need to learn more about music. There is a whole history before Cobain, though they do draw on some of the same influences, Steve learned it much earlier. And no, he is Justin Townes Earle's dad.

I listen to a lot of music and can honestly say that this song is one of my favorite songs of all time. The guitar riffs are magical to say the least.
One of my favorites of his. I like A LOT of his music too. GREAT songwriter. Thanks 4 posting.
He is a teacher... in his own way... I've been learning from him for going on three decades.

@@MrSomadude and your post another two years...time is running
Still good in 2023
used in the first episode of Longmire - it worked, capturing Longmire's haunted spirit and the show's grit - excellent tune
That show brought me here!
Exactly where I heard it first!
I love the internet. I also heard it on the first episode of Longmire, and was able to find it in seconds. Such a great song.
I love long more. Watched the whole series multiple times
I wasn't sure about Longmire as it was recommended to me by my in-laws. Once I heard the first episode open with this song I knew I was in for a treat.
beautiful song, incredible DVD, have been a huge Steve Earle fan for a hundred years!!!! God bless him with many more years with us....
Gives me the chills every time. I'd give my nuts to be able to write like this.
I think this might be the best song ever written. I have spent hours listening to it on repeat. Simply magical.

Sir- Jarrad Longmire! 👍🤠
Seeing him tomorrow night. One of my favourite songs by him. I hope he plays this.
Steve knows where he's been and he knows where he's going and all that's in the middle.
This song is a masterpiece.

Just for the sake of accuracy, Joni was born in Fort MacLeod, Alberta.
I’d love to see Bruce and Steve perform together.
Truly amazing song. Listen all day. A plus song writer and singer and band. Fantastic song.
Nobody is better at this singer songwriter thing than Steve Earle.... Nobody
Way to go Steve, rock on....
Love this song!
Great tune. Just amazing, really ...

Holy God. This is a genius!
Just heard it in S2:E1 of "The Bear"...
One of my favorites for sun salutations
Awesome song!
@pamxtom
Eric Idle is an actor --- but yes, Eric "Roscoe" Ambel of the Del Lords is on guitar. Kelly Looney on bass and Will Rigby on drums.
Anyone else think this might be what Kurt Cobain would sound like today?

Steve Earle is incredible,I read Steve and Miranda did a song together, couldn't find it,Steve and Chris Stapleton would b EPIC together
Both Cobain and Steve Earle are fantastic...
When I listen to Steve Earle I never get the Transcendental Blues.

exposed to Townes Van Zandt and Guy Clark at 17, he had no choice but to become a folk music god

Pretty weak performance of a song I love.
