  • Pianist Kevin Cole has been playing his Gershwin medley for decades, and now he has played it on George Gershwin’s piano. It elicited a standing ovation from the thousand-person crowd right before intermission.
Please read our program notes here: smtd.umich.edu/ami/gershwin/w...
The medley goes through “The Man I Love” (cut from Lady, Be Good!, 1924), “Someone to Watch over Me” (from Oh, Kay!, 1926), “’S Wonderful” (from Funny Face, 1927), “Oh, Lady Be Good!” (from Lady, Be Good!, 1924), “Sweet and Low-Down” (from Tip-Toes, 1925), "Clap Yo' Hands" (from Oh, Kay!, 1926), “Embraceable You” and “But Not for Me” (both from Girl Crazy, 1930), “Swanee” (1919), and the title number from Strike Up the Band (1927, rev. 1930). All songs have lyrics by Ira Gershwin (1896-1983) excepting “Swanee,” which has lyrics by Irving Caesar (1895-1996).
    Music by George Gershwin (1898-1937)
