  • One pot dyeing washed Polwarth x Merino and Alpaca to maintain lock formation and give variegated finish, This method is non-repeatable and random. The finished wool will be ready for combing and worsted spinning.

I use vinegar and despise the smell, put me off dying I think, does the citric acid powder have an odor? I’ve never tried it.
Also, I enjoy the way you go slowly and explain as you go along. Your voice is calming and easy to listen to. You are a good teacher.
Thank you for taking the time to make this video.

Citric acid doesn't smell, it also I think gives clearer brighter colours.

Loved the way you dyed the fleece. Thank you. I would love to see the next step of how you comb this fiber and get it ready for spinning.

If you go to my video on woolcombing it is done the same way.

Thank you for your videos I have just found them. Do you still spin and dye wool? I see you adding wool to the hot dye pot, I thought it had to be added to cold water and bought up to hot. Also do you do any plant dyes now?

      Thank you.
I do still spin and dye. It is fine to put fibre into hot dye, my first layers or if doing just one colour I would put in cold and bring slowly up to a simmer. But this method is fine. I don't do natural dyes mainly because I want colourfastness and also I use finer fibres which don't react well to prolonged high heat. I like the repeatability I get with chemical dyes.

I was curious... why is it better to pour water onto the garden and not down the drain... ??4

Mary-Ellen Peters if theres any lanolin in the water, or any leftover fibres, it will clog up the drain. pouring it in the garden will prevent that.
