Even though he lost, his performance was legendary when you consider that he's 42 years old, hadn't fought in 2 years, took this fight in 2 weeks notice after preparing for a southpaw with a radically different style, and is a natural 140lb fighter who was fighting a guy weighing 160lb+ on fight night. He still managed to win several rounds and go the distance. Tell me any other fighter in history who has accomplished this below heavyweight against an active champion.
Winning would have been awesome, but even in defeat, we can appreciate greatness when we see it.

Pacquiao did not have higher punch stats. He threw more punches but landed fewer than Ugas. Ugas threw less and landed more meaning he was more accurate. I had Ugas winning 9-3 with cleaner and more effective punches keeping Manny at bay with his jab and overhand rights. Ugas is a difficult matchup for anyone at welterweight due to his style.
Pacquiao’s team should have called off the fight when Spence was injured but his team underestimated Ugas and more importantly, the timing of the rescheduled date would have interfered with Manny’s campaign preparation. Instead of tapering off and resting like he should two weeks to fight night, he went back into training mode and at the age of 42, that’s a huge mistake by Pacquiao and his team. When things like political aspirations cloud your judgment and makes you miscalculate your opponent at the age of 42, it’s time to move on from boxing and let the new generation of boxers have the spotlight.

But Floyd gets a big payday and fights a novice and doesn’t take any damage. Pacquiao is fighting elite level fighters when he’s nit at his beat and is taking more and more damage. Manny apologizes to the fans for "letting them down". My goodness, true fans understand that father time is undefeated and Manny at 42 (turning 43 this December), fighting a guy who was a middleweight the night of the fight, stood in the pocket and traded because his legs have gone out underneath him. Lasted the full 12 rounds and touched up Ugas nicely despite age creeping up on him. Manny went out on his shield and hardly put an embarrassing performance. No need to apologize for being a warrior through and through.
If ever there's a fighter that needs to apologize to the fans, it's Rigondeax for last week's marathon.

Pacquiao switching to a different opponent a couple weeks out was more of a disadvantage to him than to the longer, younger, and bigger Ugas. With more movement and preparation for Ugas specifically Pacquiao probably could’ve won. He deserves even more credit for taking a fight he probably wouldn’t have chosen otherwise, because of the above and stylistic challenges. He needed the money for charity.
