I always saw it as a made up new genre by those running the music industry because they desperately wanted to come up with SOMETHING to be the next big thing in the early 90's. Then they tried again with "nu-metal" later on. They always need some kind of fad to make money off of.

I don’t know about anyone else, but I’ve always been annoyed by people who state that Metal and Rock are “left-leaning” genres. I’m 90% sure that people who usher this opinion are either referring to Punk Rock or flat out don’t know what they are talking about. Sure, Rock and Metal are anti-establishment, but they are also largely A-political genres. That’s why it pisses me off when I see once “anti-establishment” rock stars, like Boomer Springsteen, pretty much mingle with some of the most pro-establishment people ever: Dying, equally out of touch Democrats. This applies to Ted Nugent too, even though he is significantly more based than old Bruce. It just annoys me man.

Lamb of God was not happy about Seattle's orderly and polite mosh pit. They demanded blood, but no one obliged.
I was recovering from a staph infection at the time, so when sharing an elevator with a guy who thought he was clever by asking who in the tiny elevator had a deadly disease, I said, "well, I've got staph, how's that for you?"

Right after GamerGate, online outlets that covered metal - and by that I mean everything from metalcore to scene stuff like Pierce the Veil to beatdown death stuff like The Acacia Strain started putting out articles about how metal wasn't friendly to women, how most pits were misogynistic because they made women feel uncomfortable, how lyrics were offensive to minorities and marginalized groups, etc.
Was always a wtf because you're really heavy shit ranging from old Cannibal Corpse to Chelsea Grin and Suicide Silence (I'm not even touching Black Metal) is all about the most brutal and desolation of bodies and life shit compared to most genres.
The safe space stuff really falls short into the whole point of the hardcore scene where there is no safe area at a show.

Metal is inherently masculine. Leftism is inherently effeminate. The reason that so many left-wingers feel the need to do "metal journalism" is due to their inability to penetrate the bands themselves. Sure there will always be counterexamples, but they are the exception, not the rule. So, unable to convince most bands or fans to adopt woke beliefs, they try to act as a middle-man and reinterpret everything said and done by the bands through a leftist-framework. Metal can't be communist, based purely on the fact that so much of the music is based on hard-work to achieve a very high level of skill over your instrument. It's craftsmanship. Something that communists don't understand. They also don't understand the idea of certain things being held in high regard as timeless classics, believing that everything should be reduced to a nihilistic pile of garbage.
