  • If you have had cortisone and it was successful in keeping out of surgery. I would love to connect with you. My symptoms are increasing in frequency, but not intensity. And I’ve gained new symptoms like tingling and infrequent weakness when I stand up from sitting. Surgery is sounding like an easy reach for a fix, but it still comes with increased risks. #L5S1 #microdiscectomy #reherniation #herniateddisc #cortisone #secondsurgery #spinesurgery

Megan, would you mind sharing name and contact info of your surgeon? I am in Denver area and having extreme sciatica, but having difficulty finding good doctor if surgery is on the table. I would highly appreciate it. My heart goes out for you and hope that your doctor will help you! Best wishes!

Saltanat Grant Dr Lee with South Denver Spine. They are way out on Broncos Parkway, but he’s worth the drive. Last year I had another surgeon lined up at Porter Hospital, but he “suddenly lost his job” weeks before my surgery so I started interviewing other people. I was so impressed with Dr. Lee’s bedside manner, genuine concern, and the way he respected my choice to do what I feel is right, that I went so far. I live near Downtown Denver and was willing to go all the way to Sky Ridge for my surgery because I liked him best. He also operates out of Parker Adventist I think. He took my Medicaid and he’s private practice. Good luck, I hope you find the right option and surgeon for you!

@@megant3530 thank you so much! It has been a rollercoaster month for me, I just couldnt sleep, stand or walk for more the few minutes, i went to the chiro who made me do mckenzie stretches that made it worst, I ended up getting oral steroids to reduce the inflammation and now I am on nerve pain medication. I can walk now but still feel pain in glutes. Next stop is MRI and finding the right surgeon. It is pretty frustrating at 35 not being able to hike and do all the other activities in beautiful CO (that is why we moved here). I have been an emotional mess and I hope I too will be normal in the future.

Saltanat Grant it’s living terror for those fist couple of months, I know. But I was on my snowboard this season back at it again! I just happened to fall in the percentage of people who reherniate...after about 6 months post op you will be cleared to resume all your normal activities. So that’s why I’m in a hurry to make my decision- if I go again in June I know I’ll be ack on my board by Christmas. If I have the shot I take 3 months out of my timeline. And from what everyone else is saying, cortisone is not likely a permanent fix. I’m heavily leaning toward a second surgery. But if I had to go back in time, I’d have had the first surgery sooner. No chiropractor or other alternative therapy can get your nerve unblocked. Only surgery can do that. Good luck!

@@megant3530 i was hoping that alternative treatment would help but I am know sure it wont, surgery scares the life out of me but after having horrific pain and suicidal thoughts I am willing to go into surgery if I have a chance to go back to some normalcy. Dr. Lee seems to have really great reviews, and I am willing to travel to see him from Thornton. Thank you so much for letting me know about him. My husband starting a job on Monday and his insurance wont kick in till June so till then I have to take it easy and try not to inflame or make condition worse. Waiting game now.

Saltanat Grant I went in the day of surgery walking like the letter “L” I could not get straight. The moment I woke up from the anesthesia, the first thing I said was “I can feel my toes!” I had zero pain. The only pain I had was a sore back but that was simply because I had just had surgery, and the pain level from the incision and the surgery was nothing above a level four or anything compared to what I had been through for the six months before surgery. I walked out of surgery, by myself, standing straight up with probably the biggest smile I’ve ever had on my face. Hands-down the best decision I ever made.

Not sure if you remember when we last spoke a few weeks ago. We both had an MRI done the same day. My MRI showed nothing, but I do still feel pain. However, my nerve was pinched for two-and-a-half years, so maybe that's why i am still in recovery mode, and it is going to be five months on May 14, so Idk I am hoping I can get this nerve better because the MRI did not show anything. But, to your question, I did have an epidural shot, and it did help for like a year and a half, but the pain slowly crept in and led me to get the surgery. Also, back to your question, my friend did get epidural after his motorcycle accident, and that was five years ago, and it helped, and he is yet to get another one. Maybe things would have worked with me, but I am an active guy and have a four-year-old son. So, I think the epidural could work for you, just depends how big is your bulge.

michael muro I do remember! Thank you for reaching out and sharing these stories with me! I’m sorry you are going through this pain. Have they determined if it’s scar tissue pressing on your nerve or some other unknown cause? Also I’ve been told by 3 different surgeons that if you ha e your nerve pressed on for longer than 6 months it can cause a really long healing time or possible permanent nerve damage. That might be a question to ask. Good luck!

@@megant3530 I am hoping that it's not I have discussed that with my physical therapist because my nerve was being press for such a long time my next appointment ain't to july mri show that it was cleared and nothing was pressing against the nerve also had my physical therapist look at my mri and he said that they look good I do have tingling and somewhat of a burning sensation in the back of my thigh like in my hamstring area I looked up a lot of videos it could be still healing I'm hoping that it still healing but if your buldge is not too big I say give that epidural a shot a try maybe you might feel good for 1 or 2 or 3 years are even fix for good.
Is there was I can send pics on here so I could give you my doctor's notes about the surgery?
