I feel like this episode is FAR better to people who never had any expectations about "Major General Beale" or hardly any CRM knowledge. The episode itself is VERY entertaining, one of my all-time favorites.
A lot of it comes from people who built-up Beale in their heads as the Thanos or the Endgame villain of the Walking dead which was never confirmed or thought about by anyone other than the fans who speculated about it.
I was actually one of those people but surprisingly that didn't ruin this finale AT ALL for me. I was still blown away, brought to tears at the ending, and was ultimately satisfied that we actually got to see Rick with his kids again, because I genuinely didn't think we would get that.
I expected the show to end on a cliffhanger with both Rick & Michonne STILL at The CRM.

9:48 to be fair... Rick has relied on Michonne several times throughout the series... The Governor was about to kill him before Michonne saved his life, she was there to assist during the iconic throat bite scene from 4x16, she knocked Rick tf out when he was spazzing inside Alexandria in Season 5. He needed her during 'No Way Out' during the hoard and saved Rick from being shot and killed by Ron. She was the main driving force to get him to grow a pair of balls during the Savior Arc and step-up against Negan.
If that ain’t close to her being the best and unstoppable, idk what is.

Yeah. If you put the CRM stuff aside, it was actually pretty good imo and the budget for the show was off the charts.

Gabriel absolutely mattered in episode 5. He was the impetus behind Jadis' change of heart, so Gabriel was 100% necessary.
For casual fans I completely understand everyone loving it. But for the people who have watched all the spin-offs the ending was a let down. Glad Rick made it home but CRM were defeated in the blink of an eye.The first three episodes were fantastic, specifically the pilot episode. I wish Jadis would have met up with them near the end of ep 4 and we could of had 5 and 6 to flesh out the ending😮
I watched all the spin-offs, webisodes, I'm an avid walking dead content seeker, videos, everything. And I still found it to be one of the best episodes of the franchise. People just seem to be using stuff outside of the episode to discredit it. Like "Oh it ruined the CRM", when that doesn't affect the quality of the episode itself at all.
Absolutely loved the first 5 episodes. The finale was so rushed and like you pointed out, just too many crazy and unrealistic things happened (i.e. they surviving the explosion). I think this show would have benefited greatly if it had been 8 episodes. Its like they got to the 5th episode and weren't keeping track of what was left in the story. They were like all of a sudden, "shit, can we really fit everything we have left into 50 mins? (or whatever)." "Hell yeah! Let's do it." It a shame because everything until the finale was so freaking good.
episode 5 sucks ass lmao horrible writing and episode 6 is horrendous episode 3 is ok episode 2 and 4 are great and episode one is phenomenal
I thought this series started off great, it made me regain hope in the franchise but once we got to the sixth episode and just seeing how sloppy and rushed the finale was and making the CRM completely pointless just to focus more on a love story absolutely drained my anticipation for any future Walking Dead content. At this point I’m just gonna pretend the show ended at Season 8 because at this point it really does feel like they’re dragging out the series.
As someone who has been a fan of this show, I really didn’t give af about the CRM, they weren’t important before and obviously they were going to be cannon fodder the moment they were brought in WB and TOWL.
I just wanted to see my favorite protagonist get a happy ending, no matter the cost. I don’t think the CRM was always planned to be the major villain, but like any fan they imagine them to be.
It was imagination, they gave 20 episodes of World Beyond for the sole purpose of setting up and introducing the CRM.

episode 5 is one of the worst episodes in all The walking Dead for me
That whole shoot N cover segment in a room full of hanging blankets and cardboard with Jadis was ridiculous to the max.
The whole thing they tried to do with showing us that Rick's back to his old self with how he's talking and what he's saying, I get what they were trying to do but it didn't work for me it was a bit cringe.
The second Gabriel showed up on screen I had to let out a very loud sigh because although I like the character on the main show I did not want or need him wasting screen time on this show.
Episode 4 is almost as bad in my opinion
Never have I ever seen a television show or movie where a building is collapsing and the characters decide to not only stay in the building but the script allows them to spend the night in the building without it collapsing until the next day when they leave then it collapses 🤦
Yes the acting during the conversational scenes obviously was great but you have to remember all those conversations were basically a variation of the same conversation lol
I tried to re-watch all of the spin-off the other day and dude let me tell you I hate these two episodes with a passion😂 I can sit through episodes 1 and 2 which I still think are top-tier and absolutely what I was expecting/ hoping for.
Episode 3 was bearable and episode 6 has enough good moments where I can at least sit there and have somewhat an enjoyable time.. I'll just leave it at this as someone who spent half my life watching The walking Dead and then having to spend several more years for the spin-off epilogue for its main character Rick I honestly feel like I got jipped that I was not given something that made all the time,attention and interest I had put into the story of The walking Dead universe worth it🤷 I honestly would have preferred it if Ricks story ended on that bridge, 9X05 could have played out exactly as it did up until that explosion and it just ended Ricks story there.
6 episodes wasn’t enough time. They should had 16 episodes of them building up the CRM with Rick combined with Michiones journey. Then another 8 to 16 of them tearing the CRM down leading to a overall reuniting with the rest of the universe for a huge endgame
Some of the episodes felt too much like Andrew and Danai having fun than actual Rick and Michonne.
RJ was the icing on the cake of a ruined and biggest let down. After the CRM letdown followed by RJ🙄

I really wish they didn't go with a love story concept. I mean it's twd, at least make it a walking dead love story and not a disney one.
The thing that blows me away are people saying the whole show was not well done. Episodes 1-4 had me so friggen tense. It was like the old days. The saddest thing is if that stupid strike (which now is going to make working in Hollywood even worse and get ready for many short seasons of anything.) Is what the finale reeks of. I think even Scott Gimple admitted he was unable to read the finale himself due to the WGA BS. I loved TOWL. The least favorite episodes are 5&6. Its not like I'm a fan who can't critique my favorite things. Like those weird ass hillbilly people. Meh, that was such a stupid tack on. Could have been done another way. Jadis's/Anne's death was actually well done and showed what happens when people don't have faith in their partner as she couldn't trust Gabriel. Tbh The Ones Who Live was sold as a love story. For better or worse. Also Pearl being all for the Echelon Briefing makes perfect sense. She can't go to her loved ones. She has nothing outside of the CRM. I mean she even calls Rick family.
Also, Jadis went back to the crash site with a reclamation team. Not Yellowstone.
Alot of people say some fans built up the CRM in our heads so our expectations were set to high. I respect those people, we're all here cuz we love TWD but not only have the CRM popped up in nearly every TWD show they gave us World Beyond. The shows SOLE PURPOSE was to introduce us to the CRM over 20 episodes. Then they are defeated in a 6 ep miniseries without even fleshing out Beale whos been name dropped and built up for years. I'm certain AMC had bigger plans for them originally based on all this.
Idk, it looks like they were planned to be defeated in the Rick movies originally, if anything.

I loved the season except for the way they cut the CRM part off so quickly. Mainly I'm bitter there's not going to be a season 2 because I had my hopes up.
I have no desire to go back to it at the moment. Maybe later this year but I just found it completely underwhelming. Six years of waiting for that? I get it was a six episode miniseries but come on.
Ep5 Gabriel flashbacks paired with the fact that Jadis went in alone and woke Rick and Michonne up illustrate her internal battle about whether she was doing the right thing.
I agreed with the love story thing. It was way too overdone in the last 2 episodes to where it just got annoying. It just got corny at some point to where it just took away from the story, and the "love doesn't die" is so annoying. Otherwise I loved the show and absolutely loved the ending.
great review dan it’s about time for me to rewatch the ones who live i rewatched daryl and dead city not to long ago but i agree with pretty much everything you said episode 1-4 were great pearl thornes change of character was very weird i liked her bond with rick early on then they changed her up and the whole love doesn’t die thing in the finale was cringe asf as much as i love michonne and rick the love story was focused on way too much overall good show glad we got to see rick and michonne again but it could have been way better as a show with 8 episodes 6 was not enough to wrap up their story. looking forward to seeing carol again tho!

I haven’t rewatched it. I still remember it being lacking. I still can’t get over the lack of ppl there for Ricks return. Judith and RJ running out of the treeline just seemed like a rush job.

would everyone change their minds JUST because andrew lincoln literally pushed hard. for it to be a love story? - not me!!! the love story works up to a point. but being an experimental 'love story' theme.. nope! i dont care whose stupid idea it was.. it was a stupid idea..
episode 4 was all that was needed to pull the love story around to full bore. and make its point .. after that it became contrived.
and therefore stupid and weak (and took away time from important aspects) smaller scenes within the show. is all that needs to convey. love is expressed, in the tiny moments, character expressions, etc (again episode 4 worked and was needed for this.. not bellowing 'love never dies' as a battle cry.. to a character that it means nothing too.. and was never a focus for (pearl)
or killing off beale the way they did.. and not including him as a bigger in our face antagonist throughout the greater story at crm. (put more meat in that sandwich - so to speak) more dialogue.
they killed off two endearing brand new characters. but somehow missed the ball with beale.. and pearl.
Danai is not a good writer in my opinion

The show that revived a dead franchise,they did an amazing with this one,and the few cry babies that are complaining about the ending are the fanboys that didn't get those unnecessary reunions,glad nothing was dragged out like the villains,the background characters didn't overstay,show stuck to it's theme and that's why it was a success and the others weren't
you are on every ones who live video defending it but you can't fix a stinker, you're obsessed with Rick & Michonne and would enjoy any slop with them in it

My question is for Rj is how do expect a kid to act in that situation? The actor for Judith is a grown women.
Anthony was literally 6 if younger when he first came along, while Cailey was 12-13, if not older, so of course she has had a longer experience with acting. From the direction of the acting, from RJ’s perspective, he’s meeting a stranger.
@@McKnlght RJ still feels like a real kid imo. Many kids act / sound like him.
@@CorsonDrax I think that’s the dynamic they were going for, RJ is supposed to be like a normal kid. At least when RJ was born, there were communities and people surrounding him whereas with Judith, she had the prison, but nothing else following that in terms of her staying in a place for a long time.
Hated the idea of the crm. Hated their portrayal in fear and world beyond. However, as soon as this show came out, I was interested in them. oakafor is sadly not in it long enough, and Beal was killed way too easily. Where are his guards? Why are his men under masks the whole time? Why are all of his men so non human. Even the most military person in the world is still a normal person and not a robot. And then there's the whole bombing and lack of any important character consequences.
Side note I'd love to see the federal forces vs national guard plot line come in even if it's just a side character that was there. The walking dead needs to show military falling apart from not only walkers but from it's own if they ever do a show from the start again this would be nice to see.

You’re so right. I was really nervous when they kept calling it “an epic love story”. TWD never was a love story, it was an epic apocalyptic zombie story. Based in gritty realism; except for the walkers, I want reality based story telling.

What a coincidence. I’ve just posted a full review of the ones who live after also having a rewatch of the whole series.
Here’s what I’ll say, the first 5 episodes I actually loved more on rewatch compared to my first viewing. Episodes 1 and 2 was already amazing, and they still are, episode 3 and 5 I liked a little bit more than when I first watched them and they are really good episodes, and episode 4 is definitely one amazing episode.
Now episode 6 on the other hand, I think it’s pretty good, though I do kind of like it even less on a rewatch. I really liked the first half, then after general Beale died it did kind of start to crumble a bit with plot armour, things I didn’t buy, Thorne being an unnecessary final threat in that episode when Beale should’ve been, and some unnecessary dialogue. Though the ending scene was fantastic and emotional.
I know I’m technically uploading a comment review, but I guess I’m just discussing my thoughts on the series after rewatching it, and despite how I feel about the rushing of the crm, I still think it was a fantastic series.
4.5 out of 5! 👍
It really feels like they filmed 2 endings for this show; 1 that lead to a season 2 of taking down the crm and leading to the final war witn the commonwealth and 2, another ending which is the one we got. The dropped all these litle clues like michonnes sister elodie, ricks friend esteban with his girlfriend that worked as a journalist, references to morgan. Wnd it seemed like we were going to get the first ending and we all would have been hyped for whats to come even the biggest haters. But then gimple was like fuck it, fuck the universe, fuck the fans. Andy and danai just noped out of there and ha ent said a word. I feel like this whole journey withthe walking dead has been for nothing now. Hopefully i can find something in dead city or daryl s2
Even though the ones who live finale wasn't the best, I still enjoy the series probably one of my favorite twd spinoff shows
Respectfully, this show is just not good writing-wise. I know there's a group of people out there that want to see the love story between Rick and Michone, but most of us want to see murder Rick back. I don't want to watch six episodes of Rick being a p**sy. I wanted to see Rick going back to season 5 and season 6, where he was just blood thirsty and a badass, and that wasn't the case in the show, and on top of that, the fact that Rick needs Michone to defeat the crm doesn't make any sense because Rick basically did the whole thing himself; he single-handedly killed Major General Beale
Annis should’ve asked if she could lay with Rick again. Her death was bad. It was an ok show

The first four episodes are perfect and the fifth episode was great, but the sixth episode was the biggest let down in TV history. Probably.

For me, the series started off phenomenally with the first episode, and slightly decreased in quality with every consecutive episode. The first three episodes were miles better to me than the back half.
My favorites were 6, 4, & 1
Majority of the people enjoyed the show but there are some that just bc they didn't like the ending feel the need to drag the whole show as bad and garbage and no, the only questionable thing is the ending but the show overall was great. There some who are just butthurt and that's all.
But tbh, I think the show could have been better if it was only focused on Rick. Michonne I think was the reason that Rick couldn't develop better in the CRM. She took him to do the things like before of killing everyone instead of do it better for the people without damaging them or neutralizing them just like Okafor told him which I think it was definitely more viable.
A show with just Rick would have flopped harder than dead city and Daryl combined
@@Iletyoulive Nah. Most of the opinions I've read everywhere have said that Michonne kinda ruined the show and let's be honest here, people wanted the show just to see Rick in the CRM more than anything, people wanted action, conflicts etc not an exaggerated love story.
@@amlo_06 people say anything so I don't take opinions seriously, especially from Fanboys,Michonne was the star of the show,her show,that love story became the most successful series on the network,they gave you action lovers action and you let it flop,the people wanted a love story,numbers show that
@@Iletyoulive It's not what people have been saying lately. The show was supposed to be abt Rick and Rick only. He's the face of the franchise not Michonne. People wanted to watch the show mostly for him. It was successful and it was great but it could have been perfect if wasn't for the cringe and crap of love lines Michonne said💀. If there's any other season it better be mostly abt Rick and action not more cringe love nor the Grimes family living happy together cuz that crap is pure fanfic made up by richonners.

Realistically the grenades and chemical weapons would be stored in a proper armory or a secure location that is guarded or locked. I agree the finale was very rushed and the plot armor was ridiculous. All I am hoping is they have a plan at this point for one final reunion and true ending to the universe because the hype has died down due to this finale.
Yeah i agree with you. I love this show, but the CRM feels really small. To rushed and stupid decisions. Why tf should Rick left his arm back at the CRM? It was cool af and later he can't fight the walkers with only one hand. The RJ stuff is also Gimples fail. No 8 year old would say: "i believed". We never even saw RJ thinking about Rick.
First Episode is great but i wished there would be more of Ricks training, him training to be a pilot, him just talking to other CRM People and explore it more. This CRM has schools and scientist. Rick and Michonne exploring this more and And hearing them talking if this coukd maybe be a great place for their kids and everyone if things changed there. Would love to see Rick connects with more people and not only Pearl and Estaban. 2 Episodes could make a big Difference.

Always thought we see how Ricks escape in 11x24 was. How he swims over the River and how the take him back. What a epic scene this could be.

I never even bothered to watch the last episode. Dood, its trash and the walking dead universe is trash and i wouldnt cross the street to shit on scott gimple if he was on fire. I cancelled amc+ and i don't think i'm going to ever again watch further. Its pointless. You and movieidol are the only 2 people who i think still care
