wow, up to now, under your video/discourse I fully understood what are theoretical or conceptual frameworks in research. Thank you so much. You are a big person.
Thank you so much, Dr. Lynette you have added great clarity to me on this topic. Though I have been using "theoretical framework", "conceptual framework" in my academic vocabulary but got clarity now. Love and respect from Kolkata, India.
They are different in that one is an established theory while the other one is the combination of multiple concepts into a theory for a particular study. Since they serve the same purpose though (to shape the vision of the study), you can't have both. You have to choose which one you are going to use so that you can have a clear idea of what you are looking for in your data.
Thank you for this simple explanation. However, can you have more than one related theory as a theoretical framework? Or does this make it a conceptual framework if more than one is utilised?
If you are combining two theories together, then it can still be a theoretical framework. However, if you are combining just some concepts from each of the theories together, you would have a conceptual framework.
@@LynettePretoriusMonash thank you! Just watched it. Was wondering about the difference between a research design and a research framework. Now it is clearer. 👍👍
Usually, people specify their framework earlier in the thesis (usually as a separate chapter between lit review and methodology) and then in the discussion refer back to it. It is also possible to use a grounded theory approach where you have no framework and then create your framework based on your findings.
Is it okay to use two different frameworks for addressing my research questions. For example Technology adoption Framework and HCI theory in combination. If so is it a conceptual framework as i am combining two different theoretical framework for my research in which I aim to establish new concept. I am stuck. Kindly help.
Hi. Yes, it is possible to combine two theories as a framework. If you are using both theories the way they are, it is still a theoretical framework. If you are taking some elements from one theory and some from another, you are creating a conceptual framework.
Since they serve the same purpose (to shape the vision of the study), you can't have both. Either you are using a pre-established theory, or you are developing a theory using concepts from several other theories. The only time you would have more than one framework is if you had a project with two parts that were unrelated to each other.
@@nadiajanelopez6117 When you do that, you are creating your own framework, so it ends up being a conceptual framework instead of a theoretical framework.
@@LynettePretoriusMonash I didn't created it is from a well known study. He illustrated his/her conclusion and made a framework. Is it possible or theory is really needed?
@@nadiajanelopez6117 If the idea you are using comes from someone else's study, then it is your theoretical framework. At 1:46, how come we can't use both a theoretical and conceptual framework in a study?

Thanks, Lynette! This video ,together with the workshop we had earlier this evening deepen my understanding of frameworks. MANY THANKS!

BRILLIANT!
very clear and understandable
Just now I knew that must use one conceptual framework or theoretical framework and can't use both
That is right, you need to chose either a theoretical or conceptual framework for your research.
Is there any link between theoretical framework and research method ?
Same
Thank you for the clarification. I have been stuck on which direction to go with my Master Thesis.
Glad it was helpful! :)
Thanks Lynette, just found out about your channel. It is so helpful :)

Just brilliant.
Does research paradigm refer to ontology-epistemology?
Could you please give the link in the description for that video??
TIF !

I have used a conceptional framework in my discussion chapter to compare my findings with, is that fine?

Hello: Do you have a video on paradigm? What it is etc.
Yes, this video talks about research paradigm: ruclips.net/video/hkcqGU7l_zU/видео.html
Why can't we use both of them in a study? You made a such a strong statement that needs to be clarified please.

Hello Lynette, why can't a researcher use a conceptual and theoretical framework in a study?
You cannot have both because combining a theory with a conceptual framework just creates a more complex conceptual framework, not two separate ones.
Is it ok to use a framework as a substitute for theory?
Your framework describes your theory.
