I skipped thru a lot of the video but saw the main points. Prep/ prep and some more prep. Better points than most. Definitely knowledgeable on his restoring game. Get her done.. there is a time to be ocd and tmv(time, value , money) , I guess you get what you pay for! My personal mower deck I grinder it with flap discs (40,60,120) , media/ sandblasted any rust lows hard area/, glazed putty lows, primed with high build primer / finished with white primer( yellow covers like sh*t), sprayed ppg base coat and clear coated 4 semi-heavy coats. Amazing
Great job! A small poring tip. Just put a couple strips of tape on you can lip making a v shape. Pore and just pull your tape off and you keep a clean can lip.
Nice man! I hope you got your money back from all that work. I considered this for a second but ill let my deck rust. haha. sheeeesh. I am however going to see if I can find another L100 mower for cheap in the area.
Thank you for sharing. Just got a John Deere with some rust on the foot boards and deck. This is incredible helpful. Appreciate you taking the time to make it. I don’t have a spray gun. Is there a good metal primer you’d recommend that I could find in a can?
A quick comment about the black primer you discovered on this deck. I touched up a few spots on my D130 (42" deck) a few years back with some POR-15 and it looks and feels like the black paint you encountered in this project. Could it be? Also, if you did invest time and energy in restoring the underside of this deck, what final coating would you recommend in the hostile environment of rapidly spinning mower blades?
To me, the most impressive part of this job was the prep work prior to painting. Excellent.

Much better.
Some paint stripper would have saved you a lot of time Now if JD would learn to use primer or powder coat their expensive tractors ?
Looks great
