Congo Bongo for Commodor 64 (cartridge version) is the 271st game the Grumps have beaten. (I checked, while the arcade version -- and C64 disk version -- have 4 levels, the cartridge version only has two...and they just repeat over and over. While Frogger II: Threeedeep has 3 "stages" of water, land, and air, they add berths for the frogs in each subsequent level, so they sadly did not beat that one.)

@@johncameron6877 The Amazing Frog? is the #1 video I go back to when I need to laugh myself into a stupid drooling pile. God, it's just so great. I think it was my first real GG experience. It has such sticking power, too. It's just as insanely funny the 100th time I watch it as it was the first time I saw it. I might have to watch it when I get home from work. My favorite Commodore 64 game they tried to play (unsuccessfully) but was still funny as hell was The Winter Games episode. The ski jump where the skier crashed when he landed and just laid there still hurts my sides with laughter

"Reedeep" is onomatopoeia for frog sounds (alongside "ribbit") so "Threeedeep" is both a reference to a frog noise as well as the three environments of the game

It also sounds like 3D which could also be a reference to the three "dimensions" of the game. Any way you analyze this title it's clever, pretty cool!
Being 41 now and watching Grumps all these years has just given me such a sense of security and happiness for the memories I have of the vague shit I did or experienced in my little pocket of Australia, knowing that Dan and so many Lovelies around the world were experiencing them too!
Every time Dan quotes Spaceballs it makes me so happy, cos nobody else in my life has ever liked it or understood when I quote it, but hearing Dan quote it makes me feel like I've got a distant friend that understands haha

@@genodedemon5109 i mean, it being 3D was already a big step creatively in this era of gaming. I see the monkey tossing coconuts as more of a nod to the popular game rather than an attempt at riding its coattails, y'know?

If we’re playing Froggers from our childhood, maybe they could look at Frogger (1997)? It was an odd shift to 3D that I remember playing so much as a kid but haven’t revisited in decades. Could be a unique experience.
The 3D froggers were a staple for me and my sister. I remember the level select for the first game being those sliced cubes, the lava level, omg and the bug one lol i always loved frogger 2 as well, froggys revenge i think? the ps1 one, loved playing those

I used to play Congo Bongo at Sam's Town in Las Vegas as a kid during the 80s for hours. PatmanQC has done a great retrospective on it here on YT. The arcade game has more levels and obviously waaaay better graphics. The motivation is that the gorilla sets your butt on fire while you were sleeping in your tent and now you want to get revenge.
I'm all for the idea of Dan and Arin playing more games on old computer platforms and just... attempting to figure out the controls. 😅
Commodore 64 playthroughs have this chill vibe to them, I enjoy them.

11:55 - Decades ago, a friend and I recorded an audio tape using that little intro song (only from an Apple II version), and I never knew it was from Frogger II. I had it as a random collection of "intros" that just had the bit of code to produce that song and then immediately crash. Now I know what game it was from!
Congo Bongo had 4 stages, but the Commodore 64 version sliced it in half. I suppose they never thought anyone would get past them.

Congo Bongo. In the attract mode the Gorilla gives adventurer hot foot. In the game the adventurer goes through hell to return the favor and give the gorilla a hot foot. Arcade had 4 screens I believe.

Oh snizzap, it's Congo Bongo C64! I attempted to play the heck out of that game with a jank Atari joystick (pretty sure it was gunked up and we didn't know how to open it up to clean it properly back then) when I was a kid.
The C64 graphics don't make it as clear as the arcade original, but the explorer is giving Bongo the Ape the old hot foot prank. The arcade game shows the reason for this is revenge for Bongo setting fire to your tent.
Also, I used to play the Atari 2600 version of Frogger II: THREEEDEEP for hours! Obviously doesn't look as good as C64, but it plays the same!

Dan was so right that they needed to switch to Frogger 2 Threeedeep. Not only did it reveal another portion of Dan’s life, but I’m convinced if Arin had startle the 15-20 seconds earlier then they would’ve completed both games and insaneian wouldn’t have had to make a disclaimer that they only beat one this episode.
