My man, this channel is definitely one of the better finds that youtube has suggested to me. I just bought a house last month and finally finished setting up my dedicated office two days ago. I've been kicking around ideas for the first home improvement projects I want as a new homeowner (beginning with a firepit outside), and I've always been a staunch believer in cable management. It truly makes all the difference in tying a room together when trying to hide electronics in a high-tech home. I've only watched two or three videos on your channel so far, and I've already subscribed. I'll definitely be coming back to this more as I work through my list of projects into the new year. Cheers!
Thanks so much for watching and for the kind words! Thats so cool! Having a new home to start to customize and make your own is super fun! Glad you are liking the videos and thanks for taking the time to comment!
Fair warning. Throwing a board with exposed pins next to or on a power supply with metal case can short if the pins touch the case. I always insulate the pins or secure them on opposite sides. Be safe
Great channel. Great content. Well delivered.
Great video Chris, one of the things that always drive me nuts is how to make the cleanest look when you want to place lights in a open area, not the easiest thing to do.
Thanks as always! Yeah that is actually the hardest part if you ask me! And obviously hiding things behind the wall which would require patching and repairing the wall would be the cleanest look but that's just a little too much work than what i want to do so for now, this is about as good as it gets!
This is perfect! 👌👌👌
Nice! Really cool result 😃 Another great one Chris, just like always 😃
Thanks Chris!! Always appreciate the support!
Brilliant!
Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment! Glad you liked the video!
Awesome !! 🎉😂
What about if fitting around the top of wall and not the bottom? Where would I put the box?
Hi Chris, I wondered how do you remove the 3M adhesive strips if you don't have access to the pull tabs which release the adhesive ?
I like this idea, but I have some issues with letting the ESP32 just free to move in the box and to make pins in contact with power supply. I'm very surprised that only people having 3d printer found a solution to make a safety box for ESP32. However if you do not have a 3d printer, nothing really exists on the market to house ESP32. Also the power supply needs to be fixed into the box so cable are kept in place.
I am unfamiliar with the power units. I have been wanting to put in some lighting but was wondering about having to hardwire just have a plug in type. How did this power unit work to power the lights? Thanks
HI Chris got a question for ya. I'm getting ready to do my bedroom/office, appx. 12' x 28' x 9'H with lights on the opposing short walls. I'm gunna do some backlight slatwall 12' across the top on one side and 16' and 12' around both sides and top of two separate pieces on the other wall. I am thinking of using 2 x 10A/5vac power supplies, 1 on each wall and sharing 1 esp unit. What do you think? And thanks for your offer of advice!! Oh and would you just power these on and off with the pc/phone or should I add a switch?
It’s crazy how hard it is to find a video this quick and to the point for what I need on RUclips. Thank you man you are a godsend
Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment! I appreciate the support and glad you liked the video!
I literally just commented on another video and then found this one. So you just leave the ESP floating in there? Thanks!
Do you think the light you did would work going around an entire ceiling? Rather than the way other people do it with the crown molding.
Do you have a video that showcases the power supply and ESP device that you like to use with your LED projects?
Thanks so much for watching! Here is the video going over the esp device/setup process (I really like the esp32): ruclips.net/video/TOEnFKLm9Sw/видео.html and power options will usually just depend on the size of the product but I've always had good luck with BTF power supply units but there are a lot of different options out there as well: amzn.to/3WZwdIC
Please what if the leds are in the ceiling?
Just binged a load of your videos, great stuff man, ordered lots of stuff for some cool projects i will be working on. One question i have is, why do you use such big power supplies? Could i not just use the small 12v adapters you get with the normal rgb strips? What are the benefits from using a larger supply like you use? Thanks!
Thanks so much for watching and I'm glad your liking the videos! Great question! I'm not an expert on power so there very well could be better ways of doing things but most of the led strips I use take 5v and the price difference between a 5v smaller power supply and larger one with more power is very minimal so I always just tend to go with the bigger one. I do want to start using 12v led strips at some point so that would allow me to use smaller power supplies for some of these small builds.
@@ChrisMaherDIY Awesome thanks for the reply! Ill do some experimenting of my own and see what happens, i have a bunch of old small 5v power supplies i could try. Thanks bruh! Keep up the videos! they are so helpful
Hi Chris, maybe a silly question but what wire did you use to connect the BTF LEDs to your power supply? Just normal silicone wire?
Thanks for watching and great question! I just used some normal 18 gauge silicone wires. I did make a video going over all the details for the board and batten project if interested! Thanks! ruclips.net/video/b13VLiK7AOU/видео.html
Hey, I was wondering if you're using anything like fuses with your DIY projects for safety? I'm looking into building my own stuff but I don't want to cause a fire 😅
Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment! Great question! So far in all of my projects I have ever done, I have not added any fuses. I watched some videos a while back from someone who seemed very smart and said that its virtually impossible for anything really bad to happen using the 5v led strips. I honestly have no Idea if that is a true statement or not but that's mostly why I've used the 5v led strips in the majority of my builds. At some point I do want to learn more about the electrical aspect of all this so I can better understand that side of things. I have never had any issues with things getting hot (or even warm) so I have never even looked into adding fuses. But with that being said, I'm sure its not a bad thing to add them!
@@ChrisMaherDIY Thank you so much for the reply. I'm very much a beginner when it comes to electricity and stuff, so take things I say with a grain of salt. But as far as I understand it from what I've read so far is that low voltage LED strips (5v) need higher amps to get the same amount of Watts. High amps is what makes cables hot, so it'll probably be safer to have 12v or 24v LEDs, you can use thinner cables with higher voltages. For example if I'd want to have 24 Watts with a 5v PSU I'd need 4,8 Amps (5v x 4,8A = 24 Watts), whilst with a 12v strip I'd only need 2A (12v x 2A = 24 Watts).
Like I said I'm very much a beginner so don't take my word for it, probably someone far smarter will comment and tell me I'm going to burn my house down. But it's interesting to think about. Considering the price of fuses (< $1) I think I'll be adding them just to be on the safe side
Hey Chris, would you ever consider getting into the 3D printing world? I imagine it'd open up a ton of new avenues for you and your LED projects from custom 3D printing signs to printing custom enclosures, etc.
I really want to get into 3d printing at some point! I'm just scared that once I start it will start to take up a lot of time because I'll be having so much fun lol. But I 100% agree. it would open up a ton of possibilities! Do you have any recommendations on a good 3d printer?!
@@ChrisMaherDIY I have four Ender 3 S1’s and think they’re great, but the best of the best is the Prusa MK3S+, but those require a bit of tinkering. Can’t wait to see what you come up with when you take the 3D printing plunge!
What's the best plastic that's semi-clear for making diffusers? I'd love a system that could do this kind of thing well.
@@ameerhassan2791 Thanks for the suggestions! I will for sure take the plunge at some point lol! Thanks again buddy!
@@zoobiewa Great question! I'd like to know what 3d printing material is best for this as well!
can you make a video of how you did them lights at 0:47
Oh nvm dont i found one of your videos of doing it
Thanks for watching and glad you found the video! Hope you have a great weekend!
Power supply for what ?
Is your power supply noisy ? Or is it just mine

Thanks for watching buddy!
