My 16 year old son has expressed interest in becoming a Priest or attending Seminary after High school. Please pray for him, if this is God's will, and calling for him that he will answer this calling and keep that desire in his heart. We need the next generation. This is such a timely message, Father. Thank you, and God bless you! ❤
my mother sexually abused me during childhood and hated when i started going to church after i grew up and stole and confiscated religious things and christian literature from my room almost a decade ago. i was unlucky to be born trapped in a hostile entourage
@respectkindness-oj6xz Lord have mercy. That is horrific and I will pray for you. I especially hope you will find peace and care in the church and through your faith despite the evils you experienced.
I don't know what country your in. But, if your in America. Maybe your son could with the blessing of his Bishop attend the undergraduate seminary in Libertyville, Illinois. It's the only undergraduate Orthodox seminary in America
I am not yet even confirmed, but I definitely feel a strong pull to Monasticism and/or the Priesthood. I will definitely be discussing this with my priest after I've communed for some time. Regardless, I will work on myself, build strength, and learn skills, so that I can serve either future monastic brothers, or my wife and children. Whatever God has in store for me.
I've wanted to be a monk for many, many years. I've spent time at a few monasteries and loved it. However each of those visits was once and only for a short time spanning over a decade. I live paycheque to paycheque and live in Canada. I can't afford to travel. Monasteries want you to do return visits before staying a long time or potentially permanently. Which makes sense. You want to know the rando who want's to live with you, right? You're extra toast if you have any medical issues. Hey, if any of you know some monasteries that will pay for my ticket and not be bothered by health stuff, let me know. 😜 I can paint, work iron, bake bread, take care of grounds keeping, assist with livestock, used to be an apprentice tailor, have plenty of pastoral experience, custodial experience, and can make prayer ropes from paracord (but not wool for some reason). There. Last ditch effort to be a monk before I give up entirely lol
Idk if I'm quite cut out for being a monk but I am glad I found Orthodoxy. I was for sure lost & likely would've stayed that way. Thank you Father Tryphon.
Your life and testimony is profoundly inspiring. Secularism is a willful turning away from the most beautiful part of life. Christ is the Light and the Life. 🔥☦️☦️☦️🔥
I think about being a monk a lot, but I don't know if I have the strength even though it might be the best thing for me regarding working out my salvation. I lack the education level to be a priest and am a high school dropout though I'm not sure I have the social skills for that role but would not turn down the call if it came down to it. I have yet to be catechized or attend a church but am planning to try out a parish in Astoria Oregon soon (would try somewhere in Portland but transportation makes that impossible). I would go sooner but transportation is an issue at the moment. I kind of messed up my life and have never had a job at the age of 24 turning 25. I struggle with terrible anxiety and social ineptitude which make it hard for me to do things for myself which I'm ashamed to admit. Pray for me.
The day of the world became secular is the day it died. It's been bleeding out slowly over time. But God Will Save and God has a plan as plan is with his holy Orthodox Church
Thank you father for all that you have done for the new generation of faithful Orthodox Christians. I have only been a convert for several years now, but it has helped lift the veil from my eyes. This modern world is so evil and depraved while having no purpose of being grounded in what is natural and beautiful. The Orthodox Church is the only bulwark against this madness.
Please, your blessing father. Thank you for your words lately. Please continue and I will continue to pray for your health. God bless your boldness, find the outer edges of it.
God bless you and all my fellow christians, i see glad times coming amongst the stormy clouds. I myself found and are seeking Orthodoxy within the most atheistic nation on earth, and my children wants to join too. i pray i get the means to fund a church where i live, i´ll be there every day. Peace and blessings to all,.
The older generation shattered the delusions of heterodoxy, the younger generation shattered the delusions of secularism and is returning to Holy Orhodoxy.
I want to be a monastic. I have so much fear and not alot of money or vehicle to visit monasteries. I am still a catechumin and I need to be baptized hopefully this next year. I don't think anything would be more fulfilling to me than to be working hard and learning obedience and constant internal prayer around others who wish to dedicate their lives to God as well. However I have 2 children who don't live with me that I pay child support for. So I really am in a dilemma. Because no matter what I want to be a monastic more than anything in this world. So I'm quite sad. Hahahaha I know I'm a terrible father. I don't get to raise my kids anyways they get raised by atheist secular because I used to be an addict. Woah is me. Just kidding but I do get depressed about this. Severely. Pray for me. Thanks, Adam
how can an American with a wife and children meet the absurd requirements of seminary? St. Spyridon of the first ecumenical council didn't go to a seminary yet God chose him to be a wonder worker! The Orthodox Church must return to apprenticeships, disciples of Bishops/Priests. It is offensive to shuck the responsibility onto poor, commoners to go to college to learn the word of God and the teachings of the Orthodox Church. Seminary is a SECULAR practice.
Antioch and ROCOR are doing distance learning programs. It would still be hard. But if that is really what you desire to do speak with your Father Confessor and your Bishop.
The priesthood is not a career. It's not even a lifestyle. It's a living martyrdom. Nobody said it would be easy or garner you a middle class income and a house in the suburbs. Maybe go talk to some of the actual seminarians at St. Vlads. It's doable, you just have to actually do as Christ says and give up your life. I wouldn't want a priest who thinks any other way. Christ says repeatedly throughout the Gospels that he that loveth mother and father, son and daughter, and even wife more than Him is not worthy of Him.
@BenjaminFeehan your words are sweet like honey but cloaked in daggers through context. A husband has a responsibility given to him by God to take care of his wife and children. Christ did not give the command to abandon wife and children when he said to love Him more. That's insanity. The fact of the matter is that the church itself implemented rules 1500 years after Christ resurrected that priests require a collegiate education. That's a fact.
@@Flemeth85 I appreciate what you're saying, and nobody is urging anyone to leave their family. But also, from actual observation of real lives, if this is where you're meant to be, there will be a way and your family will not starve. The Psalter tells us the children of the righteous never beg for bread. Putting yourself under the authority of the bishop, of your church and it's requirements is a fundamental pillar of the Orthodox church and always has been.
I'm a 24 year old man looking to convert, but I'm having trouble getting a church in my area to call me back. It's only been a week but it feels like it's been ages 😂.
Don't wait for a call back. Go on a Sunday morning or vespers on a Wednesday night. Be there. Be late if you have to. Let it be awkward. Fight for your soul. Don't let the Devil raise artificial barriers.
