I have some fashion tips for the ladies…avoid strapless dresses and bras. If I have to do a formal event, I opt for a jumpsuit over a dress or nice wide leg pants and a blouse. Shoes…I can’t DJ in heels so they get kick off under the booth and slip on some Crocs.
Thank you for thinking about the Ladies!! I appreciate it!!
I mentioned this during the live show, but if you are just starting out and short on money, seriously check out Goodwill or church sales or 2nd hand stores. I picked up 5 suits for $20. Had them tailored and cleaned up. They look brand new from men's warehouse and people think I'm Morris day because I cycle through so many suits.
Great tip!
Just got 3 from Goodwill for $12, this is a good comment!
Morris Day!
I feel like if you're setting up you can wear a company Polo. And then suit up for the event, that way you're presentable and not underdressed. But if you come to set up underdressed too it can reflect as well so a polo for set up is okay I would say Nick.
Our rule of thumb is at all country clubs, nicer venues, yes. Polo up. 💯 bust the suit out for everything wedding. Ceremony included.
I'd go even further and say setting up in a suit is irresponsible. How often do we clean our cables? Not very often. Setting everything up in a suit can & will end in disaster. When I arrive to setup, I'm in dress slacks and an unbranded polo. The suit is in plastic out in the car until it's game time.
Couldn't agree more! Company polo until set up is done, start the seating music early and go suit up!
Your entire philosophy around weddings is exactly like mine. Look good, be professional and get the job done right.
haha! I can't stand the Polo look for DJ's!! I always make the joke that Photographers have it so easy here in TX. Photographers always look like they just stepped out of bed at weddings!
Nick, your suit in the thumbnail is so dapper! 🔥 Love it!
I wear a Company Polo when I'm setting up. Then I change into a black button up with a tie that goes with the colors of the wedding.
Same, I strongly feel this is absolutely acceptable especially at Luxury Weddings.
Keep an eye on Joseph A Banks for suits in their clearance section. Usually for some reason on Tuesdays. I’ve bought suits online, had them shipped to me and went to the nearest store for alterations and been out the door for under $200. Got a few compliments over the years from a few guests!
In fact sale going on right now!
Good tip!
I usually agree with everything you say - however I have to disagree 100% on the branded polo. We do a TON of barn and beach weddings where casual attire is ok and encouraged. As a matter of fact, we let the couple pick our attire. On our online planning portal, we ask if we should dress in a suit or wear a black polo - and 9 times out of 10, it's a black branded polo. Even if we were to wear a button up shirt, we'd be a sore thumb and severely overdressed at some venues. Have any of you seen videographers and photographers? Even at luxury weddings that we do - 9 times out of 10, they're wearing t-shirts and yoga pants. Some venues, yes - button down and suit. But there are many events where a branded polo is perfectly fine.
Some people have no taste. Doesn't mean you should let them dress you.
@@stadium999 I get that, however if it's not a super formal wedding, and every other vendor is wearing a branded polo - a DJ wearing a suit and tie is just out of place. Not every wedding requires a suit and tie.
Solid advice as always, Nick. Thanks
So fresh so clean
Thank you for your advice on Cole Haan shoes I bought three pair and I absolutely love them. They are so comfortable and definitely are classy for weddings
great tips bro! you had me laughing w/ the Jynco references - f-ing ruffles...hahaha 🤣🤣
I'd like to think you were referring to "during the event" when it comes to wearing a company polo; certainly think it's tacky to rock it from beginning to end. However, during setup/teardown it's totally acceptable, for many reasons. Biggest reason is to keep that suit looking fresh. I'd love to get a poll going on this topic, I think most people would agree! I have no argument otherwise homie.
Yeah. You can wear a company Polo during setup. Idc what anyone says. I don’t work for a DJ company. He can be extra sometime.
I too wish I could rock the suit and white T-shirts look 😩 great stream and video Nick
I am surprised you did not bring up TUXEODS. So what is your take on wearing a TUX vs a Suit? How about the old school TUX with Cummerbund look? OR the Tux with the flashy colored Vest look that was so popular in the 90s
I mostly DJ barns or tents in the summer and fall. It’s about comfort for me so company polos are my go to.
I dj at barns and outdoors, still wear a button up and dress shoes. It’s about perception
Great info
Hi Nick, are you specifically talking about during the night when the reception has started? I agree 100%... Or are you talking about loading in and setting up?
Company polo during setup (only) so the event staff knows who you are. Our company is also in an area that has many casual/rural weddings, so often a suit would be over-dressed. We follow the lead of the couple...if it's informal we wear button ups and if it's formal we suit up.
When you look good, you feel good. When you feel good, you have more conifence, When you have more confidence it comes through in your performance. I have found that on the days when my mind is clear and I am self positive, I get a lot more compliments on my look and my performance. If my mind is clouded and I'm in a negative mood people see straight through my fake smile.
For set-up and prep I wear a full jacket and tie. Yes keep it fitted but comfortable! Always there are family and bride and groom around - they are the first people I see! Doing first looks etc. I don't want to wear a company Polo! Not a good look. I have cash tips to prove this is so important! Please keep spreading the knowledge Nick - nice job. Maybe I'll start a RUclips channel someday.
I get hot and perspire too quick with a sports coat / suit. I have nice slacks and dress shoes with nice button up dress shirts that I've never had any issues with doing formal events. I looked better than most of the guests lol
As for the X, or any other threads attached to the suit, I don't recommend just pulling them out. Get a pair of finger/toenail clippers and clip one part. Then pull.
My go to is black ultra boost, LULU black ABC pants, black t shirt tucked in w Cardigan over top. Depending on venue obviously but lots of Barn weddings were im located.
We use the company polo strictly for arrival and set up so that the resort or venue knows who we are when we arrive and we don’t get stopped as much when we are carrying gear through non-public areas.
8:10 Small question: If my style is always with a beard, would a clean beard be recommended (in my case)? Or is the ideal just WITHOUT a beard?
Yooo the X 😅 a old school dude bailed me out on that one. Lol
The threads on the jackets are holding the suit vents together. Jackets have single vents & double vents. Also, don't forget the labels on the suit sleeves.
I only wear my company polo when I'm setting up at the venue. I do wear a tux at weddings and quinceaneras.
Weddings in the summer down south is black polo season. You will only be looking tacky sweating like crazy in this weather. Everyone here gets married outside
Yup!
Even a $100 suit needs to be tailored. All good stuff bro. We started there. Very blessed to have several suits now but hell nahh, we could barely afford those! 😝
Gentlemen's Wearhouse.. Clearance / sale rack.. Couple years back I hit a sale - buy one get two free!! yeah.. got 3 suits, tailored for under $400 (included a couple shirts to match)...
I agree with making sure you’re presenting yourself cleanly. I would also add that your shoes should be shined.
Great advice on when to remove the jacket! Legit. Do it every time.
My advice: buy a suit for the jacket; get the pants tailored.
Do not RIP OUT the basting stitching unless you want holes in your brand new jacket. Cut the threads, then gently pull them out by the knotted ends.
For me I wear the company polo to set up and then I change into my actual attire for the wedding. I also sweat so I’m not trying to sweat out my actual attire before reception 🤣
Agreed
T shirt with jacket…… oh you mean the Miami Vice look? 😂🤣😂
Dude u are a savior... 🎉
amen
You hit everything on the money. My marvel suit in my Avi is what I dj in at weddings and it's always a hit with the guests and the bride and groom. I always ask to make sure but when they request my services they say that my pic is what made them select me because I look like I know how to have fun and keep the party going
Hey Nick, if you think Cole Haan shoes are the shit...you should try Johnston & Murphy's, they have similar dess up shoes and they're WAAAY more comfortable
Black short sleeve button up with company logo for setup that way I'm not getting my outfit dirty, I've got 2 so I can change em out and wash one. Then of course I change into button up and jacket
Leave the X to return the suit 😂
Company polo is good for set up only
Facts!!
What's your suggestion/advice for female djs?
I wear the company polo to set up and then put on the suit when the show is about to begin
I do a lot of outdoor gigs and it’s close to 100 and I’m not wearing a long sleeves shirt or a tie or a jacket. No one else is either. I’d be a giant sweaty mess. What do you do when you do outdoor gigs in the summer heat??
95 percent of my weddings are in a backyard I don't wear suits but I were if out side I were a short sleeve shirt and if I do inside venue we were dress shirts long sleeve shirt and dress pants and we were nice walking shoes
also, don't forget to take the tag off of the jacket sleeve
Love this breakdown but a few things I’d like to comment on…..I don’t agree with the T-shirt. Personally I feel a T-shirt is too casual for someone who is running an event like a wedding, especially if you are at a high class venue. I have seen some ppl wearing jewelry outside their tshirts, cmon you are not a rapper. Look classy & presentable. Button down dress shirt with a suit jacket always.(no tie needed)
I love the “jacket off when the groom does” but ME personally I need to be comfortable when djing. I always take my jacket off after all the formalities are finished (usually after the parent dances)
“Look at this guy with his wolverine face Jnco suit he’s gonna suck! 😅
Totally agree with you! Look professional aren’t you professional or a $300 DJ.
And if you’re gonna wear tennis shoes, wear some straight leg slacks. I’ve seen some folks with kicks and big cuffed bottoms 😮
All black suits all the time.
I wear a company polo to set up and swap that out for the event
What about your assistant? Same thing? I have my assistant look like one of the staff 🤷♂️ prefer button up, but polo is fine. No jacket required
Same for assistants!
Company polo for set up only
if some one says company polo one more time, i swear. this is 2023, look sharp.
Wrong comment, the word RAPE should NOT be used in your description. Previous to this I have been watching all your clips with great admiration.
Always tailored suits absolutely no dress shoes for me though I always wear Vans.
Ive been at this for Decades and in my case i am into trendy fashion. A suit is an investment in your business just like you equipment
Go to Macys or any where suits are sold and get it tailored and dont forget the shoes , belt and tie . Dress the part 1st appearances to future clients are made at that event . If your not into it then Weddings arent for you.
Tailored Suits AKA Choppa Suits lol
Pants.. Polo... Jacket.
. If you dj'ing and it's hot... Take it off...
😂 Company polo
I've noticed that a lot of wedding photographers don't even bother to dress up and instead look like slobs. I've seen them wearing cargo shorts, wrinkled t-shirts and flip flops at relatively formal weddings. So unprofessional! The interesting part is that the photographers are actually more visible to guests than us DJs behind our booth. I just don't get it?
Not only the X - remove the tags off the jacket sleeve. Notice this from time to time (maybe they're gonna wear it & take that ish back).
Fedora til I die
A company polo T-shirt not for weddings but parties, there’s no problem with this. Yes it’s advertising and as long as it’s modest advertising it can look smart. Come on Nick, some of your suits are extremely questionable 😂😂
Suit sans the tie, I keep the tie just in case
I have to agree but also disagree with you as far as the polo shirts. Myself as well as my assistants wear a polo shirt that yes has the company name on it to setup and tear down equipment. Everyone of my employees are required to look professional at all times. Now when it comes to the wedding itself we all have suits. Now I wear a 3 piece suit myself. There is that point when yes somethings you don’t wear when you are djing, but you do have to also separate what people wear for setup and tear down. There is also other times outside of weddings where a polo can come into play.
I don't think you can go wrong as long as you get ripped, and then throw on whatever black t-shirt like Tiesto 😂
Hilary pant suits, oh no!
I always wear a vest, especially in the summer months. It’s a great way to stay professional looking even when the jacket comes off.
Aye, Where's my prize?
😂
wearing flowers in your suits pocket????? so loll
Company Polo is nasty work!
I've seen djs that have RUclips channels dj weddings with a polo shirt, jeans and a cap! wtf? those same djs always put out videos where they buy & buy a boat load of gear, but you can't buy a suit? Dress the part!
Dude, if I see ANYONE in ANY sort of polo, I immediately assume they have terrible taste in music 😅
If the Groom gets Naked.. do I get naked??
YES
Also, look great but don’t look like the groomsmen.
IMO you just look like they couldn't afford a DJ so they had one of the guests Dj if you wear a regular suit Ike everyone there.
suit and white sneakers...... THATS A HUGE NO NO! looks awful! wear suit with shoes!
But what about your guy Asante with the beard? Looks kind of nasty.
Bro you doing to much… the company polo is fine but when the wedding start or before the wedding start put your tux on or suite. I watch your channel half heartedly only because you say things like…. “Don’t do this or don’t do that like your the god of DJ’s sir chill out….I respectfully send shoutout to you as a DJ because I love the culture but tell people what you do not what they should do.
I'm not sure how your tailor is so cheap. Tailors in SoCal cost more than the suit. Last time I got my suit tailored was 270.00 and that was after going around to a couple places.
Los Angeles fashion district some shops tailor a suit for about 20 , 30 bucks
