14:00 By technicality, can we say that we quite possibly have a benevolent dragon split with Magikarp and Feebas being “counterparts” and them evolving into Gyarados and Milotic
@@FizzyCape yeah, cuz Milotic is more based on the goddess Aphrodite/Venus. Since Feebas and Milotic are based on the story of the Ugly Duckling, it only makes sense that the thing that the "ugly" Feebas would turn into would be based on the goddess of beauty. Especially if you've noticed that the lack of limbs on Milotic is a reference to the Venus De Milo statue (and also where it gets it's name from). The long red appendages are supposed to be the goddess's long hair and the intricate blue tail is reminiscent of a bivalve shell, like the painting of "Birth of Venus" by Botticelli.
@@kupaakaleo137 It's worth noting that Milotic also takes inspiration from oarfish. The Japanese term for an oarfish (竜宮の使い "Ryuuguu no Tsukai") means "Dragon Palace's Messenger/Ambassador". So there's still dragon imagery to be found with Milotic.

If you ever played pokemon expert emerald, they changed gyarados to water dragon type. Its a modded version of emerald version with increased difficulty, all 386 pokemon (up to that gen) and a few moveset, stat and type changes that make the game a little more logical and challenging
Agreed. The Dragon type is much stronger than other types, so getting a Dragon type early on in the game would make things unfair. Also I've learned that not all draconic looking Pokemon have to be of this type. IMO that doesn't make much sense due to Weaknesses and STAB-Moves. A human classification system wouldn't affect what a pokemon is weak/super effective to, but typing does.
The idea of Gyarados being a sea dragon that feel from grace for abusing it's power is a really cool idea. For me personally, I never saw Aerodactyl as a dragon is the prehistoric animal that it is based off of is a flying reptile. Also, while I used to consider Charizard a dragon, now I see it more as a Salamander from myth which is know for breathing fire and can sometimes fly but is ultimately not a true dragon.

@@ProjectEchoshadow So Gyarados is just an uglier Milotic.
(I like Gyarados, but Milotic is pretty much the embodiment of beauty in the Pokémon world. Can't fault it for that.)
Faded Lyrics nah they saw a weak fish become a powerful sea creature then did the same concept with beautiful. An ugly creature becomes a beautiful sea serpent. It’s the same story but another beauty instead of power. But Gryados isn’t even ugly. Just too angry.
I can see Magikarp's split happening one of two ways; Affection, and Move-based.
Imagine if, when Magikarp hit the threshold, you had high affection with it or taught it the move Return. You didn't just throw Magikarp to the wolves to learn how to swim on its own; you HELPED it, but not in a way that babies it. You supported it, made it believe in itself. So it had all the hard knocks from leveling up, but also had you to help guide its pent-up aggression in a productive way and take care of it so it didn't stew in its malice.

14:00 By technicality, can we say that we quite possibly have a benevolent dragon split with Magikarp and Feebas being “counterparts” and them evolving into Gyarados and Milotic
Delta Zhumerld that’s the way I’ve always seen it but I believe the actual origin of milotic is unrelated
I would like to see three starter pokemon that would evolve into dragon types in their final stage. They would still beat each other’s type since dragons are strong against dragons.

Technically, Gyarados is a dragon... just one that abused its power and got punished for it...
Charizard clearly resembles a dragon and some dragons are mythical dinosaurs with wing and sometimes fire breath. Heck, some Dragon types are based off of dinosaurs.
Magicarp having a split evolution that's Water Dragon would be amazing.
If you ever played pokemon expert emerald, they changed gyarados to water dragon type. Its a modded version of emerald version with increased difficulty, all 386 pokemon (up to that gen) and a few moveset, stat and type changes that make the game a little more logical and challenging
Ucha Nekome nice idea

That would be nice. I hate the normal gyarados.
I think the most certain and only excuse is
B A L A N C E
Agreed. The Dragon type is much stronger than other types, so getting a Dragon type early on in the game would make things unfair. Also I've learned that not all draconic looking Pokemon have to be of this type. Maybe this type is more so about unleashing the power of a dragon, and not just having a draconic and or reptilian appearance. (Might sound a little far-fetched, but I think it's reasonable at the same time.)
@@RedParagonG not to mention Gyarados would be so broken in Gen 1 if it were Water/Dragon. Also, since Magikarp is really easy to find (You can literally just use an Old Rod to find it), it'd be way too easy to abuse.

There's a difference between being a dragon and being dragon type. I believe that types are human classifications of pokemon. Similarly to classifications like Reptile and Mammal.
IMO that doesn't make much sense due to Weaknesses and STAB-Moves. A human classification system wouldn't affect what a pokemon is weak/super effective to, but typing does.
This dose make sense when considering that some Pokemon got reclassified when newer types came out
314Marvin maybe the classification is based on observation
As Marvin said, the active type effectiveness system would go against this theory.

I like the idea of Gyarados being pure Dragon and with the introduction of gen2 onward, having Dark-type tacked on as a secondary type.
