So funny. I'm a San Diego native and never knew this place existed. I just barely became interested in rocks in the past 5 months. - Renay

Any tips on how to find the gems or is it mostly dumb luck based on the recent dig pile? Thx

Bring a few buckets. They have a tailings pile that you can pick through before it starts. I found an aqua there. It’s a process, you classify material by shaking the batch before it goes into the water. Once you come out of the water the gems 💎 you want usually show color, light blue, purple, pinks. Grab those and put it in your bucket. Now as far as the pile goes, you have to fill it fast. I have actually seen large crystals (clear and Smokey) so keep an eye out and then stick your bucket right under that baby and and fill it up. You can wash it at the table. You will get dirty so soap gloves and an apron would be great. I always say a back brace is good because it is hard work. Lol. Some people choose to continue mining instead of going on the tour. It’s up to you. Most of all, have fun! ❤️

How's the road going up to the mine? Their website says it's a dirt road and that most family cars would be fine; do you think a Dodge Challenger could make it? It's not terribly low but at the same time I wouldn't want it doing that road if it's horribly pitted/potholey.

You have a very nice ride! LOL. If you go slow, you should be fine. We saw a Toyota Camry go in before us and they got there. It seems that there is an orange grove on the way and the road is well used for that. I think going after a dry spell will ease your mind. We went after the huge rains and it was still great. I hope this helps.
