Oh man -- this video was an ENTIRE GEOLOGY EDUCATION right here! Very Fabulous! I'm saving this one to watch again! Used to live in Southern California & studied some of the geologic history of California. Incredible! I enjoyed this one SO MUCH!!
@@lapidarydave, Sorry this is a year late but I just saw your reply when I was rewatching this video in preparation for coming this year on my 60 the birthday since I wasn't able to make it last year because of car problems. But it looks like it won't happen this year either . When I had checked the schedule a few months ago it showed April 11th ( my actual birthday ! ) as an open date and I was SO excited and planned a trip with 5 of my best girlfriends to fulfill my long term wish to come to your place. But when I went to make reservations last week the schedule had been changed to Sundays only and I had to cancel the trip. Maybe next year I will have better luck !! I've found some tourmaline , lepidolite and smoky quartz points at the abandoned Blue Crystal mine in Landers in San Bernardino County discovered in 2006 . It's less than 10 minutes from my home and it has definitely wetted my appetite to find more !!! I have a huge rock collection but there's nothing like the ones you pull out of the earth yourself. Sorry about the long reply but your enthusiasm has me even more determined to visit the Pala one day. Thank you for the tour !
A fellow Washingtonian! Have you visited the mine or ordered their ore before? Totally recommend flying down to San Diego / So Cal for a weekend and checking it out if you haven't! I spent a weekend there and found a gorgeous 50+ carat green tourmaline crystal that will cut rather nicely. And a ton of other great stuff! Highly recommend it!
Great video! I’ve been there a few times plus other mines in the area. I remember visiting a mine in the area about 25 years ago with a friend who knew the owners and we personally got to go inside the mine and crawl around, it was fantastic! The owner told me that his wife had purchased the mine for him as an anniversary present! I can’t even imagine what that would be like!
Thank you for this awesome video! Makes me really miss this awesome mine. Definitely need to visit the mine again soon. Thankfully, I already have two of the bags of high grade mine ore in my garage to go through this weekend. Totally recommend this mine - for anybody that sees this. And, totally agree with everybody regarding Steve - he's absolutely awesome! 👍
I love how excited Sweet Jim gets when searching through stuff. I get just as excited as he does. 😂 It would be such a blast to go rock hounding with him.
Hi Dave, good seeing you live today! Hope you found some unique herks! I did see this video a few months ago, and now have watched it 3 times. That much information! I am gleaning tips for my upcoming official first dig here in Oct. As I am watching you in the jeep with your guide Steve! ( sorry can't remember his name) I find myself wanting to jump out and scour the sides of the road! Thank you for taking the time filming this with the guide, love it! Safe travels!
Old disabled house bound dusty rusty rockhound here: This was a great trip! Really exciting to see so many minerals and crystals from one mountain. What fun!
Hi ya! I wanted to say thank you for this video. Ive been wanting to go to this mine but have horrible anxiety. If I dont know what to expect, I typically wont go. This made me feel excited and confident to visit Pala. Big big thank you :)
You should totally go! It's a very smooth process and they guide you along at every step of the way. I spent a weekend at the Oceanview Mine and brought home a 50+ carat huge tourmaline crystal that I'll be able to cut into something really nice. And, tons of other great stuff! You can also order their ore online for $100 plus shipping if you'd prefer to go through high grade mine run at home. I have two boxes / bags waiting for me to go through this weekend. 😁 Tons of awesome stuff.
I miss cleaning crystals for my friends John and Ariana Gibbons in Tujunga Canyon and then having an American Indian ceremony ❤I miss my silversmith days working with crystals ❤
Steve Carter is a dear old family friend. I have not been in touch with him since my family left Poway in 2002 or 03. Steve got my dog Sasha. My grandfather Roger Carpenter was Steve's father Gordon Carters main man for Carter Blasting for 20 plus years.
Spent good time out there but not $75 good. We had a feeling that truck loads of pile been pre screened good. We haven’t even find $5 worth of anything. At least for that money you guys should of planted some buckets of Amethyst, quartz or no gem quality tourmaline crystals in that pile. They have almost no value but people would of be happy to find some. I rather spend that $75 on ebay and get some nice crystals. We never go back.
Actually, I was invited a whole heartedly and was given a very special tour both on handoff camera but that is pretty funny and I didn’t notice it before
@@flashbackactivator6565 no joke it really was between $25million-100 million lol what determines if it’s 25 million or 100 ? how the owner is feeling that day lol what a joke
Once again another sad video emerges showing rockhounds valiant but futile efforts sifting for shards, remnants...that's all tha remains of the once spectacular gem pegmatites around Pala, California. Thanks to aggressive exploitation of these ground-level pegmatites there's no real "treasures" left...they are all gone now folks...you go there you are left with sifting through piles of previously sifted mine dumps. Disgusting waste of time hoping to find even a single inlact tourmaline pencil, or any other intact crystal larger than a micro-mount specimen. Perhaps if I can keep my children interested in crystal collecting for their beauty, they might be able to pass this gene onto their children, so that one day my grandchildren, or their grandchildren can have the joy of discovering REAL crystals there on the Moon, or on Mars...but all the surface pegmatites on Earth now have either been mined-out long ago, or are in the hands of private property "I'm only in it for the money." exploiters.

Also. I've found deep dark red faceted crystals ( mostly very small) but have been unable to identify them . Any ideas ?
the tour guide is a great teacher!
Thanks for the in-depth video of what to expect at the OceanView Mine. I can't wait to do this. I'll check out your sponsor also.
This is the best video I have seen on this mine. So informative, and no stupid hype.
Thank you.

Lived within 40 miles of the mines and have never been. Thanks for the information.
Love that Kunzite! I found a little pocket of semi facet grade stuff in an unexpected place. Throw it under a Blacklight!
It glows orange, Phil Osborn (one of our miners) showed me that. 💎🔦😎

Who ever found that Kunzite , is one lucky person.
it was a dude who was pretty much done for the day after he found it
I am the person who found the Kunzite and it now resides in my personal collection

Kunzite fades if left in direct Sunlight! Just an FYI!
Yes siree, that’s why they call it “the evening stone”
We have some of the most stable kunzite on Earth. We left some out for a year, and a half before it lost color.
Steve, the back of my brain is saying 'manganese nodule' for that odd shiny round piece; is that likely in that area?
@@RICDirector We have manganese, it’s what colors our morganite. What part are you referring to?
interesting
