I just bought a Daiwa UC40 under spin at Dicks for $15 bucks on clearance. This was the only video I could find on servicing similar type reel. Thanks for your efforts.
Thank you for your video. It gave me the courage to take my reel apart and clean it. I actually managed to remove the spring without damaging it, although it was not in bad shape. I took some measurements on the brass bushings and ordered ball bearings to replace them.(3 pieces 6x10x2.5 mm in case anyone is interested).
I’ve started doing the bearing replacement on several reels lately. If it’s working fine I leave them alone but I’ve had several recently that just weren’t performing well. Let me know how it goes and tell me when you catch a big one on it.
@@youngmartinsreels5314 I got the ball bearings today and changed the bushings. When i was finished the reel was very hard to turn. I removed the shim that was located between the old bushing and the main gear on the right side and it works like a charm. I thing the shim rubbed against both the inner and the outer ring of the bearing at the same time ( not a problem with the bushing as it does not turn) and it became stuck as it were.
You can take the spring off without damaging it. I have the original MC-1 version and you absolutely need to take the spring off in order to take it apart enough to remove the main gear for cleaning. PROCEDURE: Pull the spring back a bit from the end and find the end of the spring. With a razor knife, catch the edge of the spring and pry it gently off the end of the shaft. Then rotate the spring carefully off the end of the shaft. The spring then slides right off. On the MC-1 ... you then slide the shaft forward in order to remove the small gear. After the small gear is off, you can slide the shaft out. with the shaft out, you can remove the main gear by pushing it out from the handle side. ( no torch needed and spring is undamaged.)
I had one from the 70's with the old drag that came with a two piece pistol grip rod from Roses department store. The best little rod and reel ever... Never had any problems with it... Don't know why they changed the drag system. I recently bought a new mini cast kit and the rod is junk...
Thank you! This little reel has frustrated me soooo much. I have problems with the retrieval and the pin is dropping. Hopefully I fixed it. We shall see!
Fortunately, I still have that reel so I was able to go check it out. If you remove the left side cover, then remove the screw and handle, you can then pop out the handle adapter. Once you’ve done that you can move the adapter to the other side. Now reinstall the handle, screw and dust covers on the other side. It all swaps over easily. Short answer: Yes you can. Fish On
Fabiano, as far as I am aware, parts for these reels are not available. My only recommendation is to watch for one to show up on EBAY and buy it for part’s.
This was one of my early videos, I hope I’ve gotten better but even now I tend to drift from the camera range. I do try hard to keep the project in view these days.

Lucas, I’m happy to know I was able to help.

How are you Sir,

If you make mistakes and learn from it you become smarter
That’s why I keep the mistakes in the videos. Everyone can learn from my mistakes. If they do, they won’t make the same ones. 😀
Position your camera properly.
