It will help you guys in watching kdramas if you understand that sins are intergenerational and it’s a collectivist society where family reputation is very important. The teacher’s son was on the verge of his ultimate career achievement. Word getting out of how his father was passive bystander to school bullying would’ve potentially derailed the son’s career. So the son decided his dad must “die still a hero” and orchestrated his murder via asthma/pollen. But Moon Dong Eun must’ve also studied this son (by having casual drinks, conversations) for years to know how ruthless he is and that he might do such a thing, because that murder totally wasn’t guaranteed.
This show has a heavy biblical reference, seven revenge subject (5 bullly + teacher + mother), seven sins Sloth Teacher Pride Yeon Jin Envy Jae Jun Wrath Myeong O Gluttony Sara Lust Hye Jeong Greed Mother
@@junehoneycrisp Jae jun, I deem his as envy due to his background, as a illegitimate son, even tho he is rich, he always feel like he has been discarded by his family, that's why he care so much about his puppy, and reject the thought of abandon his dog for his kid. When he learn about his kid, his eager to compete with Do yeong for their girl (both Yeon Jin and the daughter) is what make him earn the envy title from me Regarding Wrath, actually none of the villain match this sin perfectly except Yeo Jung, but since Myeong O died earliest, so may be he could be one, or else I would said Greed actually fit him too.
I thought it was a nice parallel when Yeon Jin’s husband told her he picked her because she was less dressed than the other candidates while he’s clearly interested in Dong Eun who has so much clothes on.
Yeonjin and Dongeun scene in classroom was the FIRST scene they shoot of this series. Director need the raw intensity of the emotions before both of the actresses become more attached and closer while shooting The Glory.
The real events that inspired this story are so horrendous, I would not be surprised if people full on support an act of revenge!! People do say that Revenge is never an answer and Justice should prevail, but sometimes Revenge is the only Justice!!
Moon Dong Eun in previous episode told creepy manbun that a member of his friend group murdered So Hee (the body in the hospital basement) and has proof. Her death was ruled by police as suicide by jumping off building, but manbun now thinks if Dong Eun indeed has proof of murder, he can blackmail his own friend for money in order to buy his silence. Greedy but not too bright that he is, that makes him excited and eager to keep working with Dong Eun.
14:56 Just so y'all know public gambling is illegal in SKorea (u go to licensed casinos if u wanna gamble legally) unless u don't exceed certain limit. Idk exactly the limit is but 20k is apparently still within the limit but betting 50k is over the limit and is considered illegal
As Achara mentioned, it is a psychological war and game of wards that the tension between characters comes from them. The game of GO' used to be for older people and as you saw, older people go to 'GO club' and play the game. Then the age of professional GO players has been getting younger and younger. They are becoming pros in their early teens and many of them retire early. Because the game requires so much mental energy, they tend to get exhausted in early age. World ranking players in Korea, China, and Japan are all in their twenties. It is another example showing how much Dong-Eun is committed to this revenge and she has been putting so much energy into it.
i wish they will react to reply 1988 after this because one of the main characters in that show is a professional go player. it's the most popular kdrama of the 2010s but it seems like not many youtubers react to that show, maybe because of copyright reason

Two things I thought you should know too 1. This is based loosely off a similar incident that happened in Korea. 2. The actors that palyed the cute puppy dog Dr and the main female villain are in a relationship now.

Hey CineTofu! I discovered your channel through your 'Moving' reaction videos, and I'm so glad I did! 😄This channel is now one of my favorite reaction channels! 💕 Also, as a native Korean speaker who happens to speak English well enough to understand the English subtitles, I *REALLY* hope you watch the remaining episodes of The Glory with the other English subtitles. (I'm guessing you can switch between different versions of English subtitles?) I've actually watched another reaction channel reacting to The Glory with different English subtitles, and I must say, the English subtitles they had on seemed much more natural and simply "flowed so much better" with the show than the English subtitles you are currently using. Love your reaction nonetheless! Keep it up! 👍
If the shows are to be believed, it seems as though teachers move to classrooms for certain subjects instead of students and there appears to be a certain amount of study time where there's no teacher there at all. That seems to be when all the in classroom violence happens.
You're right most of the revenge story they won't know you are coming but not Moon Dong Eun! It will reveal soon about the money. How it will be played. Like I said this is a very calculated story and nothing here is coincidence! She is just too smart! 💪 The scene at to go place with the slow mo and the hair was really 🔥🔥🔥
so excited to see you guys watching this, favourite k drama of all time! Dong Eun is probably one of the scariest protagonists I've ever seen and every move she makes is brilliant
After this show came out creator of the show got exposed as a bully himself. Also there is a show that used a similar storyline where a popular manwah creator who created manwah about revenge against bullies was a bully herself and the bullied victim was forced to interview her. That show came out before glory existed(i forgot its name). The show was about spirits trying to stop people from killing themselves. I could tell that the person who created this wasn't ever bullied(too much of a reliance on physical aspect) but i did not think that the creator was a bully himself.
The school teacher and basically whole school ignored the bullies doing what they did is because, as we see with Parasite, recommendations and social connections are very important especially if one has rich connections. The teachers clearly want to be in good graces of the rich parents of these students especially the one who owes businesses, a whole Church community etc That could get them promotion and upward mobility. Standing against these bully kids means standing against the parents and ruining not only their chance but their present career. So they let these kids run amok and even aid in covering up just to keep being in parent's good books. The fact that the homeroom teacher was promoted as high as chairman probably has subtle implications that his aiding and covering up worked and they helped him climb ranks. My country and my community was not this bad but I have seen some teachers back in my school try to curry favor from influential parents by buttering up their kids in class before. This is just a more vicious version.
I understand you find it hard to believe teachers would do such a thing but actually there was a recent case in Korea of a teacher who killed herself after being bullied by students AND their parents, it led to a lot of a protests by teachers too so when I watch dramas even tho it’s ridiculous I don’t find it hard to believe tho
Korean society has this idea that goes something like "hammering the nail that sticks out", so bullying and humiliation of those who are different somehow is seen as justified because is a society with group mentality. Western society is more individualistic, while in Korea the group is more important than the individual. Which makes bystander effect more common in situations of bullying.
