How to Install An ALUMINUM CASTING DECK on Your Jon Boat {Jon Boat to Bass Boat Conversion}

- Installing an aluminum casting deck on your jon boat can raise allot of questions. In this video, I took a really simplified approach to this. There are some key things to consider though which I cover in this video as well. One of the major challenges is to keep the weight down with everything you add to your jon boat to bass boat conversion. In the end the decking turned out awesome. The paper product I used to measure out my aluminum cuts is called Builders Paper. Picked it up from Home Depot. This truly reduced the time it took to template out my pieces of aluminum and made things allot easier than using cardboard as a template. Greetings and thanks for the splendid video series on this aluminum decking. Forgive me if this question has already been asked but I did look first but could not find it… About How much total weight did all your aluminum decking (including rivets, angle, sheets, etc.) come up to?
I don't think I have ever seen aluminum decking installed, man you missed your calling lol the boat is looking good. I would have had to use thick aluminum, im a large mammal.

You can get some of it from HD or Lowes.
What's the weight capacity on the decking with the aluminum gauge you are using? What would be the equivalent thickness if you were using plywood decking? (Asking for a future deck project on my boat). Thanks...
Unfortunately there no exact answer to that question. It all depends on the space you are decking in relation to how much support you have underneath the decking. For a 1232 I wouldn't go much heavier than 1/16. If you have a bigger boat you could increase the thickness and the weight of the deck.
