I aspire to be like you! I too would like to pursue an average career. I want to live a peaceful life. May I ask: do you have any regrets? Do you feel the Pat truly resembles the amount of work you put into becoming a pharmacist? What should I (upcoming senior in highschool) start doing to assure I’m on the right track? Much obliged.
I don't have any regret! I love my job and I love the friends/experiences that pharmacy school & my pharmacy residency has given me. However, there are times I was jealous of my other friends/peers that did not pursue healthcare and were making a decent salary without additional loans/education. There are pros and cons to everything. You are still young and still have time to decide your path! I love that you are being proactive and asking the right questions :) I'm sure you'll do great in whatever field you pursue!
Hii Sara I m Nandani, will be 1st year college student soon in this pharm d course. My question to u is in India there is 6 year integrated course of pharm d( 5 year of academics +1 year of internship) so how u take 8 years to become pharmacist???
Most people here in the US, we do 4 years of traditional college and 3-4 years of pharmacy school! Most pharmacy schools are 4 years, but more are becoming 3 years. There are a few rare accelerated program like yours that is 6 years total but you would need to be 200% committed and most of us don’t know we are that confident in pursuing the path until after college ☺️

Hello Mam, I am planning to work in the hospital as a pharmacist, but i am not good in math or computation . Can you give any tips or advice for me. Thank you, I hope you reply.
So, I’m not sure what your definition is for not good at Math (meaning, do you consider B’s bad or are you at a low C-D range). Math is pretty heavily used in pharmacy. Especially if you are in a hospital or many other fields of pharmacy. Most of the calculations I preform are conversions for drug rates, volumes, reconstitutions, and dosage calculations based on something like mg/kg. In general I would not recommend Pharmacy these days as the Pay has been virtually stagnant for over a decade since the amount of Pharmacy schools doubled from around 2000-2015. There is simply just an over supply of pharmacists compared to the demand. It can still be a very rewarding career, but for the time/effort/loan investment compared to many other careers these days, I don’t think it is worth it. If I could go back I would have pursued an MD or DO for what I put into it.
Residency is optional so most people do 1 year of a general residency! If you want to specialized (oncology, psych, infectious disease, etc) then you do a 2nd residency that is more focused on a particular specialty ☺️
i'm a junior in an american HS, and pursuing pharmacology has really interested me! i know im young, but are there any ways i can explore the industry as a high schooler? like doing research or something like that :D
You can watch some pharmacology videos to see if the pathways and drug mechanism interest you :) Once you get into college, I suggest joining some sort of pre-pharmacy association on your campus to learn more about the profession and get opportunities to experience pharmacy!
I should be graduating school with a pharmacy tech certification (if I pass the test) through my schools pharmacy program. Is studying to be a pharmacist after that worth it?
Hey Sarah, in your experience do most hospital pharmacists complete a residency immediately after graduating? or are there also a few who work in retail before doing a residency?
Most do residency right after graduating but there are sprinkles of people who decide to work first and then apply for residency, one of my coresidents did that!
You will either have to complete 4 years of university or apply for an accelerated pharmacy program that combines both undergrad + pharmacy school. In the west coast, 4 years of university + 3-4 years of pharmacy school is the most common route. However, I hear in the east coast there are more accelerated undergrad+pharmD programs that you can do - but you have to be 100% sure you want to pursue the profession if you do that!
@@SarahPharmDare you in the states ? Most pharmacy schools in Texas don’t require a degree to be accepted into pharmacy but you need to complete about 72 credits in prerequisites
Hello mam plz reply me i am study diploma in pharmacy and B pharmacy 5 years education in pharma feild and 3 yr experience in hospital pharmacy so plz i will come in usa or not
That decision is ultimately up to you so I am not sure :( However, I do have to be transparent and say that it is currently very competitive in terms of job search due to the over-saturation of pharmacists. It could also be dependent on location, there are probably jobs in the non-popular locations if you are willing to work there.
Good journey

Mathematics or computation is not usually a requirement or prerequisite to take pharmacy courses, become a pharmacist or work as a pharmacist
