This was recorded in Dimash's own studio during the pandemic. With traditional Kazakh instruments.
It tells the story of a young soldier who goes to war on foot in the 1st world war.
He mentally says goodbye to his parents in this story because he doesn't think he'll ever see them again!
    Greetings from the Netherlands

DIMASH has opened so many musical doors for me. Before him, I regret to say, I only vaguely knew where Kazakhstan was. And all the different songs he SHARES with the world I become fascinated by and want to know it's history and cultural significance. IKANAIDE a Japanese standard is one example. His rendition/arrangement is magnificent. His performance is MESMERIZING.
Thanks again for your reaction. SALMATAU is part of HIS SOUL. IT OOZES WITH DEVOTION AND REVERENCE FOR HIS PEOPLE.

The Kazakh songs strike deeper for all of us around the world. If you listen to the 2021 version on his channel it has subtitles in many languages. You were correct that he was telling a story, it's the story of a young Kazakh man torn from his homeland during world war 1 and being sent to fight for the Russian Army.
We have been asking him to release a Kazakh album forever and one of his life goals is to receive a Grammy for a song in Kazakh.
Daididau is another brilliant Kazakh folk song arranged by Dimash and his uncle when he was only 15 years old and Unforgettable Day is a Kazakh song that was written and composed by Dimash himself in his late teens.

Beautiful reaction, as you both continue with this journey you will see that he brings so much of various cultures to all of us. He truly puts his heart and soul into every song, but bringing songs that we have never heard and make them so special to all of us, the Dears are always encouraged to sing along with him in concert, and to know that people from over 130 countries are singing with him in languages we never heard, is just incredible. This , for me is one big thing that separates Dimash from so many others, his most popular songs are not in English ❤️

I discovered Dimash about a year ago, after ignoring him in my RUclips recommendations for more than a year. I figured he was just the latest pop "sensation," and I generally do not listen to that genre of music. I am almost embarrassed to admit that I have since watched hours upon hours of reactions to his various performances. I mostly watch reactions from professional vocal coaches, many with backgrounds in Opera, vocal students, professional singers, and music producers. I just came across your channel. Like you, I am absolutely amazed by his incredible talent, ability, vocal range and dynamics, delivery, and stage presence.
Here is some information about Dimash. Dimash is from Kazakhstan, but more specifically, he is a native Kazakh. Kazakhs are a separate indigenous people from regular Kazakhstanis. They are the original Nomad tribes from the steppes; there are about 10 million Kazakhs in Kazakhstan who no longer live as nomads and about 1.4 million in China; mostly in Xinjiang, where many nomadic groups remain. Small numbers also exist in Uzbekistan, Russia, and Mongolia. Dimash is a direct descendant and lives traditionally with his extended family. It is custom that the firstborn son of a family is given to a set of grandparents to be raised for at least 10 years. Dimash was entrusted to his paternal grandparents, and they raised him and instilled confidence in him. They raised him to believe that God had a great plan for him, and he should pursue it and dedicate himself to that plan with his entire being.
When Dimash was five years old, he pointed out to his grandparents that the piano was out of tune, and they immediately realized what that plan was. They decided to enroll him in the best children's music school, and thanks to Dimash's parents' relative fame, he was accepted. There he took piano lessons, started singing, and was found to have perfect pitch. His family was determined to afford him every opportunity; there was no room for slack, and Dimash's personality and character enabled him to dedicate himself entirely to his craft. We are now enjoying the fruits of that labor.
Dimash is university-educated with degrees in classical/Opera, contemporary music, pop, and jazz with a major in vocal. He also completed a Broadway musical master's class and has recently completed his Master's with a concentration in Composition; his thesis was titled: "Personal Image of Traditional Music." He graduated with Honors, achieving a perfect score of 100%. He is currently working towards his Ph.D. as he wants to teach music after his singing career.
Dimash has diligently honed his craft and developed his God-given gift for more than 20 years now, and it shows. I read somewhere that Dimash used to swim 3 hours every day to increase his lung capacity. It's not just raw natural talent but tremendous work, dedication, and discipline to achieve this level of performance. He has won many prestigious singing competitions and is a much-loved national treasure in his native Kazakhstan. He was even offered a place with the Astana Opera in Kazakhstan but turned it down to follow his own path, and he has been very successful thus far.
He has performed songs in 15 languages (Kazakh, Russian, English, Mandarin Chinese, Italian, French, Spanish, German, Serbian, Turkish, Sicilian, Ukrainian, Kyrgyz, Arabic and Japanese), speaks fluent Kazakh and Russian, is getting pretty good with English but is still studying it along with Mandarin, which he says is a challenging language to learn. Dimash also plays six instruments; the piano, dombra, guitar, xylophone, cello, and drums. He usually performs for more than two hours during his live concerts and treats his audience to an eclectic mix of styles.
According to some analysts, his range is over 7 octaves (A1-D8), spanning across all four registers. As many probably know, the four registers, from lowest to highest, are vocal fry (pulse), modal voice, falsetto, and flageolet (whistle tone), and Dimash seems to effortlessly navigate between them, often within a single breath and without a break in between. Dimash has even hit a D8 for ~5 seconds with vibrato, the highest note ever performed during any live performance. He sings in multiple musical genres. His primary genre is classical crossover, but he also sings classical music (bel canto), pop, and world music. He uses musical elements, vocal styles, and techniques of many other genres, including jazz, rock (e.g., screams), RnB, musical theater, even rap, and Tribal and Turkic melismas, which are technically very distinctive and very difficult to master.

You are going to love the songs of his culture. They are beautiful and most of them have subtitles. You will see they are usually very meaningful. They tell stories. Many of them are about their country or their countries experiences. In contrast to the meaningless songs we hear so much now a days, it is incredibly nice to hear songs that actually say something. Daididau, Give Me Love, Akkuym, Kieli Meken for starters. There are many more and he takes the songs of his country very seriously as he wants to share his culture with the world. Daididau from Bastau is very powerful.

You have only just begun to scratch the surface of Dimash's talent and ability. He has continued to hone his skills and to fine-tune and perfect his already unbelievable abilities even more. There does not seem to be a limit to what he can achieve vocally. I am excited to follow his journey. Dimash will possibly go down in history as the greatest vocal talent known to man. I cannot think of anyone, past or present, capable of doing what Dimash is capable of. I am still waiting on someone to name a single individual even remotely close to Dimash's mastery.
If you want to follow Dimash's career progression over the last five years, here is a song list I usually recommend in semi-chronological order: S.O.S. (d'un Terrien en détresse), either the Slavic Bazaar or the 2017 "I Am A Singer" version. His covers from the same competition of Lara Fabian's "Adagio," Eric Carmen's 1975 "All by Myself" (repopularized by Celine Deion), and Freddie Mercury's "The Show Must Go On." Also, from the same show, Confessa & Diva Dance, Opera 2, Daididau, Daybreak, and Autumn Strong. His "I Am A Singer" 2018 guest performance of Lionel Richie's "Hello" is a must. Then there is Sinful Passion (Greshnaya Strast), Love is like a Dream, Your Love, Olimpico (Ogni Pietra) from Igor Krutoy's channel, Diva Dance (Bastau Concert), Across Endless Dimensions (either the movie trailer or his internet live concert performance), and Know (both the regular performance as well as the vocalise). His more operatic-sounding performances are Ti Amo Cosi (with Lara Fabian and Aida Garifullina), Ulisse (Duet w/Aida Garifullina), Tu Vas Me Détruire (duet w/Sundet Baigojin), Question of Honour (duet w/Zarina Altynbayeva), and the aforementioned Olimpico (Ogni Pietra).
His traditional and Chinese songs are also impressive: Adai+Daididau, Samal Tau (2020 Tokyo Jazz Festival), Qairan Elim (Holy Land), Elim Menin (My Homeland), Karagym-ai, Thousand of Miles - A Common Dream, and Ómir Óter. And then there are Drunken Concubine & Diva Dance (duet with Li Yugang), Without You, Love Of Tired Swans, Where Love Lives, Unforgettable Day (Gakku Concert), I Miss You, Passione, Give Me Love, Marigold, Golden, Mademoiselle Hyde, Screaming, his latest music video "Be With Me," just to name a few.
His latest songs, "Fly Away," "Stranger," and "Ave Maria," recently debuted live at New Wave 2021, and the latter two are on a whole new level. Dimash performs an alternate version of "Stranger" on the "Shine! Super Brothers S2" Youku Show that is simply mind-boggling and well-worth checking out. Here is the link: @
Dimash also recently released "Ikanaide,'' performed during the 2021 Tokyo Jazz Festival live stream, which is absolutely incredible. He sings in nearly flawless Japanese.
Avoid any performance from "The World's Best." The show in L.A. was utterly disgraceful. The production team edited and cut all of Dimash's performances down to 2 minutes and cut out his Kazakh song for no reason.

A lot of songs today have a lot of technicality to them that they no longer have meaning, and are just there for meaningless entertainment, but this song, is a story, this song is one that is alive and it captivates you differently from most other songs, I would love for you to react to Dimash's cover of the song called "Autumn Strong", this song is about a true story of a Japanese born Chinese actress, after World War 2 she was found out about her heritage and was estranged by her Chinese audience and was deported from China. This song is very powerful and emotional to me, because it speaks of another person's hardship and sorrow. Dimash sang the same song again in the Japanese language and the song carries a different name called "Ikanaide". Dimash sang this song a lot of times, so when looking for the video of this song "Autumn Strong", look for the one where he's wearing a Black Fedora like hat, that one is the best version in my opinion.

Samaltau significa Monte Samal.

I love your reactions. You both are so genuine. This is one of my favorites because you don't have to understand the language to feel the emotion that Dimash brings to this song. If you watch it again, you can turn on the subtitles and see the story behind the song. I suggest you watch his "War and Peace" and "Omir Oter". Just be sure to turn on the subtitles because the lyrics are so meaningful.

👉This bowl-neck lute played with a bow is is an old Turkic stringed instrument and called Kobys or Kylkobyz in Kazakhstan. The Kyrgyz variant, for example, is called the kyl-kyyak.
The Kobys is the oldest string instrument in the world and, according to a German scientist, it spread beyond the borders of the nomadic area of Central Asia and became the prototype of all European string instruments.
(Turkic means: The Turkic peoples are a collection of ethnic groups from Central, East, North and West Asia as well as parts of Europe and North Africa who speak Turkic languages.)
A legend about Kobyz says that this instrument was created by the great steppe narrator Korkyt-Ata, who lived in the 10th century and that the tool is charged with magical and even mystical properties and sounds like animal voices. In addition, the Kazakh people believed that the spirits of their ancestors spoke to them through this music.
The old outlook and piety towards their instruments and music was constantly preserved in traditional Kazakh society and ensured the highest spiritual level of musical art and a special respectful attitude towards musical instruments. Simple people, for example, did not dare to touch the shaman's Kobyz. It is said: The balance between the courses of life and death on earth can be maintained by playing the Kobyz.

Greetings from Russia! The song performed by Dimash was written more than a hundred years ago. This is a song about the fear of a simple guy from a village near the mountains, who is taken into the imperial army and he goes along with other similar guys into the unknown.
    SAMAL TAU (Wind Mountains)
Samal tau, my native land, the vast sea
What kind of days are waiting for me in the soldiers
    You remember again and again
The native land where he was born and grew up
    I'm not riding, I'm walking
    Even slower than walking
    In fifteen days of hiking
Approaching in the direction of Omsk
I am at the age of two cycles, the year of the cow
By the will of fate, he went to a distant land
Samal tau, native lands left behind
We are like a school of horses, torn away from their native lands
    My mother and father,
Some are elderly people of advanced years...
    This song was composed
The misfortunes of the 16th year
Samal tau, my native land, the vast sea
What kind of days are waiting for me in the soldiers

Samaltau is about a young Kazakh who was forcibly recruited by Russia in 1916. He was forced to leave his home country and his elderly parents to go to war (WWI) and does not know what awaits him there as a soldier or how his elderly parents are to manage without him. The Best version in my opinion is from the Tokyo Jazz Festival. It’s pure emotion.
Normally there are no vocal acrobatics in his native songs and I love them a lot. In every of this songs you can hear the great love and devotion to his county and his people.
I also highly recommend another Kazakh songs.
Qairan Elim means Holy Land and is a prayer and the fear about the fate of Dimash's country and the world in general. The MV is fantastic and he even directed it. The man, Renat Gaissin (a Kazakh composer) on the piano is also a friend of his and he has also written songs for Dimash such as River Of Love, an instrumental in which Dimash plays the Dombra, and the song Òmir Òter (Ode to Life). The MV was presented of the 30th anniversary of Kazakhstan’s independence. Also a must see but switch on the subtitles. A masterpiece. Goosebumps!

Thank you for the beautiful reaction!! Samaltau is one of my favorite songs by Dimash too. Another great Kazakh song he did is Daididau, you should react to the Bastau version (Adai+Daididau) with subtitles on, it’s beautiful! I also recommend listening to Dimash singing Sinful Passion and Love is like a Dream, both are in Russian

Samaltau translates Mountain breeze and that’s exactly what the instrumentation makes us feel, all de sounds of nature around. Samaltau is a true story about a young soldier forced to go to war and his worries about his parents and all what is loved by him that he is leaving behind. This song is very accurate in this time of war. Dimash singing in his mother tongue is unique and his powerful voice is stunning, keeping in mind he is crossed legged, very difficult. Thank you for your reaction, for me too this is one of my favorite songs, traditional songs of Dimash are indescribable beautiful ❤️🎤🌹🌹🎻👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

there is another version of this where they are wearing traditional garments and he is later engulfed in a tornado sandstorm and it's a very powerful visual experience YOU need to read what this song is about, it's very sad about the pain and fear a young boy was forced to endure leaving his family to fight in a war in Dimash country

    Beautiful, haunting song ...
(This was recorded the day of Dimash’s 26th birthday, at home in Kazakhstan. He also sang SOS - in fact, he was a busy boy that day, as he then went on to do a Q and A with Dears for the first time, on both Instagram and RUclips!)
I think you will love ‘Adai + Daididau’ from his Bastau concert in 2017 ruclips.net/video/Ra4v19Rp6cQ/видео.html
(Not only does he sing very emotionally, but he also plays a traditional Kazakh instrument, the dombra, and wears a beautiful traditional-style and regal costume.)
P.S. Dimash has actually sung in London, in November 2018 - a concert at Indigo at the O2.

When Dimash sings in his native language, it's a very mystical experience. And, when he sings in Mandarin, it is so ethereal. Both experiences are so otherwordly, but I'm happy if he only ever sings in Kazakh again, and I don't understand 90% of what he's singing lol. Thank you very much for such lovely reactions. Greetings from South Africa.

Dimash is at his core being here. He has said that, while it's not technically difficult for him, it's an emotionally difficult song for him to perform, because even after all this time, things haven't changed that much for his country. The song is told from the perspective of a young Kazakh man being taken from his aging parents to go fight in another country's war. It's based on a true event.
Another Kazakh song that I highly recommend is 'Give Me Love' (Makhabat Ber Magan), specifically from his Bastau concert. There are English subtitles, and the lyrics are beautiful. It's become a highlight of his concerts, and the audience often sings along.
There are many more.. Qairan Elim is poignant and moving, Qaragym Ai is heartbreaking and sweet.
For now, here's the link to Give Me Love from Bastau:

The most cadenced part of the music refers to the march of Kazakh soldiers who drag themselves into battle like hopeless souls. At its most epic, the song can represent the very battle that will end the lives of young soldiers!

When Kazakhstan belonged to Russia (in 1916/17, World War I), young Kazakhs were forced by the Russian Empire to leave their homes and fight for many years until their total massacre. The story of one of these young people, who marches in desperation to a war that is not his, in addition to the sadness of leaving his parents, very old, with no one to care for and the certainty that he will never see the mountains ("tau") of Kazakhstan again. again. this wonderfully sad song! In addition to Dimash's talent, we have a wonderful setting and two fantastic musicians: Olzhas Qurmanbek, Master in playing the Qobyz (Kobyz, which looks like a violin: An instrument of Turkish origin, sacred in Kazakhstan) the other who plays the “Rainstick”! A supernatural journey to the plains of Kazakhstan through music!

👉The Rainmaker or Rainstick originally comes from northern Chile. Its origin is the very dry Atacama region, where it was first built by the Diaguitas Indians in the Elqui Valley and used for rain ceremonies. It is originally made from the copado cactus. Only dead cacti that are already lignified are used. The thorns are driven into the interior of the cactus. Then the rainmaker is filled with small pebbles and sealed at both ends.
If you turn the rainmaker over, the small pebbles fall from one spike to the next. This creates a pleasant, even sound that is reminiscent of flowing water or the sound of thick raindrops. While in South America the medicine men wanted to lure the longed-for rain with the soft, rustling sound of the rainmaker, people enjoy the pleasant sound with its calming effect.
The sound spectrum ranges from a fine, gentle drizzle to the mighty roar of a downpour. It 'rains' all the more persistently, the longer the rainmaker is and the more spikes block the path of the pebbles. (www)
