- Russia’s Defense Ministry said it successfully performed the first test of a new intercontinental ballistic missile on Wednesday from the Plesetsk launch facility in Northern Russia. President Vladimir Putin said the weapon would make the West “think twice” before harboring any aggressive intentions against Russia.

Eg: there are a lot of things in Europe that in theory prevents it from shooting at America (in theory), Russia simply releases a missile bypassing Europe and disappears wherever it wants. To block this, you need to put air defense everywhere and a lot around Russia.

I still don't see the need for a nuclear powered ballistic missile. There is a reason the vast majority of the shuttle flights were classified DOD missions. Don't think there is not a defense for a suborbital object already in orbit. There are some truly amazing platforms in orbit.
