Internet with usage restrictions is flat out absurd if you want to do almost anything involving video.

Heres what you need to do to save hundreds per month, You need to either jailbreak your iphone to enable native hotspot or buy a cheap rooted android on ebay for like $50. Put that phone on an unlimited plan + hotspot mod = unlimited internet. I do this with shitty sprint and use 70-150gb a month. Fuck these companies. ✌🏻
i know this is a late comment, but recently i switched to Verizon's unlimited 4g plan, and its 80 dollars a month. i can add 3 more phones and make them 45 dollars a piece, adding up to $180 a month for 4 unlimited lines. i can confirm that it is completely unlimited, as i have around 200gb of data used on it in the past 22 days (i made sure to stress test that sucker). i dont know what your current plan is now, but if you are in the same situation, i would definitely recommend getting it even if you have to buy a 4g signal booster to get a decent connection. definitely worth.
i live in a unserviced area as well and its a damn struggle. i too have to live off of mobile hotspot. its not because of hills or mountains, its just because the providers refuse to extend their lines and quote "too expensive to extend lines"

Same boat as you, rural area and only dial up or satellite as options. I'm looking into a similar plan, but uses a yagi antenna and a cellular modem/WiFi router. The plan is for 50gb, then you get deprioritized. Costs $85/month with no 2 year contract like satellite.

I live in place in Tn that is the same, no one offers internet so I rooted my phone and and use Wifi Tether Router and a old dish satellite and a wifi booster and I power my entire home from my phone. I find that you will have better wifi by the fuse box in your home. I also use a cricket phone which is fully unlimited unless in a pop area, which I am not. I am currently trying to actually open my Nat Type!

you should buy a long range directional antenna and point it twoards the library so you don't have to drive to it and you still get free wifi :P just make sure you purchase the correct coax cable such as lmr-400 and an outdoor access point with enough power to reach the library or you might also need to buy an outdoor wifi amplifier.
I play tf2 a lot, which is not a bandwidth hungry game, so with a 15 gb 2 mb/s hotspot on Verizon I usually get 2 weeks of playtime until it gets throttled and goes down to 600 kB/s which is still playable to an extent :(

You probably know this but if you put your charger into your console or pc and connect to the hotspot that way it acts as an ethernet cord which will make your ping better....I know this from how much I game from my hotspot I feel your pain
Morse Code if you go into your settings you can change how you connect like via Bluetooth straight up connection or USB and when you do it as a USB you get a better connection like you would using an Ethernet. Been doing this for years now I know what I'm talking about and if it's faster

I have Tmobile unlimited wifi with 14 GB of Hotspot, and use Mobile Hot spot ZTE Falcon for movies with Binge, I use it to hotspot unlimited Netflix and Amazon it extends video streaming movies and I heard gaming as well. Just a suggestion.
I have T-mobile (T-mobile 1) unlimited everything but the hotspot seems to run only 520kbps when testing the connection from my ps4. I get alot of lag and nat type chat drops. If you are still using hotspot for gaming check out T-Mobile's unlimted plan and add the international plan it lets you use unlimited hotspot data. To my knowledge its the only company there is that has an unlimited hotspot plan.
