Life might have been hard back then, but people had hope in the future.

At 1:24 this film captures what may be the only example of a G&SWR locomotive moving in film, the tender simply looks too different from LMS designs to ignore.
Very interesting piece of unique history.

This is a superlative collection of material, bringing back to life an era long gone and remembered by fewer and fewer as time passes. Well done indeed!! I think trying to be precise about the date is difficult. I know this is a wee bit picky, but a couple of things to think about. At 49 seconds in there is a shot of St Enoch's Square. In the top left is the art deco Information Bureau. My understanding is that this was built to help visitors find their way about during the Empire Exhibition in 1938 (?). At 4.12 there is a wonderful shot of Jamaica Bridge, looking north. One of the new 'Cunarder'/'Coronation' (apologies, I am not knowledgeable enough to distinguish) trams heads north. These vehicles were introduced c 1937/38 (?) Congratulations again - MORE please.

Another great video, Colin. So many flat caps! There were three glimpses of Coronation trams dating about 1937. The most interesting thing was the opening scene with smoke pouring from chimneys and the "smog" which seemed to imbue the whole film - a sign of the times! Well done! I am ready for the next great reflection on times gone by!

Fantastic presentation Colin. Thank you for this. The cinematoghraphy is awesome for the time. My grandparents would have loved seeing this. I've only just found your channel and I'm loving it.

Modern Britain looks dead compared to these times in this old film, one thing is certain, all the products in whatever form were made locally not imported from Germany, Japan, or China like today.

People worked hard in this period lower wages, not so much emphasis on working families going for higher education. It seemed to be a more stable society back then not the massive problem with drugs back then.
