Polystyrene carving of architectural detail made for moulding and casting in plaster.
Came back to watch this video. Listening to you give yourself a pep talk about your work is where I'm at right now. Whew. I'm so nervous about the piece a client wants. I'm not procrastinating watching all of your old videos. I'm researching. Really.
I am moving into architectural moulds and concreteworks using hotwire and foams and this video has been uncommonly motivational.
Thank you for sharing.
Man. You guys make it look so easy! I use to make patterns for foundry work and never did it that smoothly! Much respect
FINALLY !! A full length process video..thank you! I have been fascinated with foam carvings and learning how to carve reliefs, pediments, angels such as Michael, or gladiators, etc., for my home decor...your work is right down my ally! Seeing how you used the free formed wire cutter really helped...how far down you would go for each layer, coming up a bit further for each one etc., I am a novice carver and have a big job ahead of myself but your work is inspiring!! thank you!!
Beautiful work, I owned a fibrous plastering company for many years and can appreciate all the time and effort that you put into your sculptures, never had the opportunity work with polystyrene, but it looks great fun, was not expecting such a smooth finish, lovely work indeed.
Aden Hynes is my hero!
Your work is truly magnificent, unbelievable craftsmanship.
Great video and cool dance moves.
Very nice work!! Once upon a time I used to do Plastering and built basic window canopies and columns out of foam but THAT, sir, is outrageously amazing and skillful!
great work! its cool to see someone doing creative architecture by hand
you are a genius mate. I am a solid plasterer. I could only dream of creating work like yours . hats off

I stamp and stain concrete so I watched your stone wall build with great interest. What attracted me more is the collective humor of your talented people goofing off while producing. Having fun while working is a sure sign of success.
Beautiful. Stunning.
Beautifully done.
Ah ha! That’s what I need to add to my practice, some back tension relieving dancing! Love 💗 it!
Does wonders!
May I ask--no beg!--for a few videos for us beginners on how to carve a relief? We are no threat to your work or livlihood...just a master giving helpful hints and techniques. I have just purchased my first hot wire knife and plan to get a free-hand router hot wire as you have and a few other pieces...again...thank you!
Wow amazing work, you're a true artist
Amazing work. I thought that you would have done that with layers of thinner polystyrene.
beautiful work! its gotta be fun working at at scale!
Raw Talent. Great work

Just a small piece of folded sand/glass paper to rub down the smaller areas. And thank you very much :)
This is Art.
Amazing! I came across this video just looking for help on making some large Broadway masks. I ended watching some amazing sculptures come to life! A big inspiration for me, Thank you for sharing this!
Danial McCoy Hi Danial, glad you came across this, I hope this was of a little help. Have a look through our channel at some of our other projects, see what you think :) Might give you some ideas. Thanks for watching!
Aden Hynes Sculpture Studios I have watched quite a few. Lots of amazing things! Im curious about what kind adhesive you use to glue together expanded polystyrene (packing type foam). I've been trying to find an answer but it seems like everyone has their own method.
Danial McCoy Hi Danial, we use a squirt PU expanding foam called No Nonsense Foam. You buy it in cans that you attach to an application gun (very messy, don't get it on you!)
You're awesome :) and the dance was awesome too, lol! Taking those moves with me
The Simple Game

Grande ! Bravoo !
That looks very, vulnerable to snapping as though it couldnt survive a fall, but the attention to detail is great,
it seems there's not a project you wouldnt under take, I know myself that everything is a new challenge, difficult for differant reasons, one sculpt or drawing from another.
Fortunately, it was mounted high up on the walls, away from public touch. So vulnerability wasn't so much of an issue. If it required something more durable, we'd most likely have taken moulds, and reproduced in glass fibre
This is beautiful
Genial trabajo... Felicidades...
You're great, really this is art!
Really wonderful.
Love the dance too 😄
great video, good info. thanks for posting.
Incredible work and an inspiration. Newbie question..., what type of foam do you use?
VERY, VERY GOOD!!!!
I am also servicing a high end market and this work is top notch
Stunning work of art,, I am an artist also working with styro ,,, your process is great, I am using an home made knife for carvings,,it takes a lot of time but its worth ..I wonder what is the thing you put on it to make it hard and strong after you cut it..,,
great work.. justa fantastic..
Quite nice. Would give multiple thumbs-up were it possible to do so. Don't sweat the Architects, that's what change orders are all about.
Impressive. you are very talented.
Hi, i have a question if anyone can help thats great. I want to turn a polystyrene egg into the golden egg in harry potter but the surface of the egg needs to be very smooth. Whats the best coating to put on it? Is it plaster of paris?
WOW that is very nice
AWESOME!!! Would love to do a workshop ...
Beautiful!
Wow wow wow!!!!!! I want to do this!!! On a smaller scale of course for things in my house, where can I get the foam? Also the dance skills are just as awesome!!! I am a fan!!!! 🙋
Thank you very much! We get our blocks in a bulk order from an insulation packing company here in the UK. Our blocks come in 8 x 4 x 2ft size. Thanks for watching.
Excellent
great work.it amazing.
incredible, Im so inspired I can't sit still, I gotta get up and go make something!!!
The jobs have their fun moments, but it does require a lot of hard work, we make these videos to get a sense of everything thats involved. Thanks for watching! :)
Wow that's wonderfull work
love your work!, just an idea iff you want to copy/clone your already made pieces, you can make molds with silicone rubber, and use expanding foam in it to get foam pieces in the exact piece you made in a fraction of time, so you dont have to work weeks and months for one art piece, just saying to help you out and save some time ;) great work tough.
Hi Fairysa, thanks for your comment. Have a look at some of our other videos, we make silicone, plaster, and glass fibre moulds for a great number of our jobs. This wasn't necessary for this job as no two pieces were the same. The pieces needed to be replicated but at a mirror image from left to right, so a mould wouldn't have worked. Thanks for watching
Allright then, just wanted to give some help but you already k now about that ofcourse, well keep up the good work then :-D thanks.
.
:)
New ideas are always welcome, but mold making has always been very much up our street. Thanks for watching guys, keep it up!
mindblowing
c cgunn We're using a very thin sheet of glass fibre, almost lie a tissue paper, so that you can draw onto it, and then draw through it. And we're covering it in just a household plaster filler. This isn't waterproof or anything as its going inside, just a shell so we can make up the surface, quite delicate though.
+Aden Hynes Sculpture Studios That is remarkable. I've use the home made hot wire for designing and making parts for remote control airplanes. Especially the wings. You can also make casts of some parts this way for fiberglass molds. Great work!
My final thought as the video ended, So many talented people doing this and now we have 3D printers and or 3D dremel machines. Takes some of the art out of it but at the same time makes the ideas endless.
