Have been french knitting for some months now in between my usual knitting projects! Love your idea with spool knitting and I've made a multi coloured one in cotton for our new house so thanks slot for the precise easy instructions!❤
This is awesome! I’ve been spool knitting a cord off and on for awhile now and had no idea what to do with the thing now that it is just over six feet long. It’s the perfect colour for my room too! Thanks for the idea!
Thanks for this. I made a icord with cotton yarn with the intent of making a hot pad for my counter top then couldn't figure out the best way to put it together. This will be perfect :)
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I had a great big “rope”; but couldn’t figure out how to make something of it! I am now making myself a rug! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Will be watching your other videos too!
You are so welcome! If you would like to see more items that can be made with spool knitting cord, head over to our spool knitting projects and idea page. Thank you! I have wanted a cushioned mat for in front of my kitchen sink but I could not find the colour that I wanted There are so many wonderful colours of yarn but I didn't know how to make that in to a mat. I love braided rug and own several already but they also weren't the right colour for my kitchen. So I discovered French knitting (spool knitting) but still didn't know how to translate the cord in to a rug. Now it all comes together! I am looking forward to making these rugs, never more being a slave to fashion designers' whims of what is 'in style' at the moment.
We have a playlist with all of our spool knitting projects and instructions. We have several cute projects you can make with your spool knitter! ruclips.net/p/PLmfp5aNSxEF0KK2hEpDxLtGeA_HH6uLTU
After watching soooo many videos of rug making, I was ready to give up. Told myself I was cheap and stupid...pay the money, buy a rug and get over it. Sorry, not very pithy, I am complicated person;( Your video so inspired me...I am DOING THIS. Thanx for the clear, easy instruction. Made my day.
thanks for this. Clever way to get the original long knitted tube thicker. I, too, use the sugar N cream cotton yarn, variegated. I use one round ball for each length and then brain three full-ball lengths together; then circle or oval them and stitch by hand. They make great yard "doilies" for under vases and things on tabletops. I don't actually think they'd make very good rugs. I came here to watch the whole playlist as I need some ideas of what else to make with the spool knitting process.
Well done video. I am working on trying to make my first area rug and I’m so happy I seen your video I feel much more confident that I’ll be able to complete my project the way I want it to be.
Wonderful! I'm glad we could help. We have a lot of other spool knitting tutorials and project ideas here: www.needlepointers.com/main/ShowArticles.aspx?NavID=1605
As a kid, I also did spool knitting but never knew what to make with it. Since you liked this idea, you may be interested in this page dedicated to free spool knitting projects: www.needlepointers.com/main/showarticles.aspx?navid=2201
Thank you for this video on making a French Knitting Rug. I plan on making one in the near future. I’m just wondering what type of yarn you use for making a rug.
Thank you for watching our video on making a spool knitted rug. It is possible to have another color. You would add the color when spool knitting. Attach the new color to the working yarn on the spool knitter with a knot. Keep spool knitting the working yarn in the first color until you reach the knot, and then keep spool knitting once you get to the new color yarn - as you go, make sure that the two loose ends of yarn are buried in the middle of your spool knitting tool as you knit. To finish it, bind off the cord from the spool knitter. Continue finger braiding until you only have a short piece left. Insert this short piece into the last loop. It ended, then just sew the end down.
Hi. Thank you for watching our video on making a spool knitted rug. I really don't know if it can be made with an i-cord machine because I have never used one.

Hi Diane, Sorry, I did not measure how many yards of spool knitted cord that was used because I knitted and made the rug as I went along. You need many yards to make a rug.
Can you tell me where to get the spool to do spool knitting. I have been to Michaels but they didn’t have them. I had one as a child and would really enjoy doing it again.
Hi Sandy. Thanks for your interest in our video and spool knitting! We have a page about how to spool knit and near the bottom are some affiliate links to places to purchase a spool knitter. www.needlepointers.com/main/youtubecontent.aspx?RUclipsPageID=82. If you purchase through our links, we get a small commission if you purchase through the links and it doesn't cost you any more. Thanks in advance for supporting our site!

Thank you for contacting us with your question. When the rug is the size wanted, cast off the yarn from the spool knitter, place the tail of the cord into the last chain's loop and pull tight to secure. Tuck this tail under the rug and stitch it into place and the rug is done.
Ann, we have another video which shows the rug finished. ruclips.net/video/oXoSPf8QCuk/видео.html. And here is a page and near the end is a photo of the finished rug. www.needlepointers.com/main/youtubecontent.aspx?youtubepageid=68. Hope this helps!
You will need a lot of spool-knitted cord. Since I made the rug as I was knitting, I don't know how long the cord was. The length of the cord will also vary by the weight of the yarn and the size of the finished rug. Have fun spool knitting! Thank you for watching the spool knitting video on making a spool knitted rug. My plan is for the rug to be about 18" x 14".
Could you tell me the thickness of yarn that you used?
Thx!🎉❤ Can it be made with an i-cord machine?
Hi. Thank you for watching our video on making a spool knitted rug. I really don't know if it can be made with an i-cord machine because I have never used one.
It would've been nice to see the FINAL rug. I have that yarn, but didn't make the rug because of how much dirt it would show.
