I recently pulled the trigger (after getting the permission forms signed in triplicate from my better half and because our new windows had FINALLY been paid off) on the Canyon Strive:On CFR underdog when it was on-sale..... I've ridden more frequently, with more downs in the last month than the whole 2 years previous on my Whyte T-140 acoustic. I can even tow my daughter up fire roads on her acoustic so she gets more downs in too! In fact she's getting my old Whyte and might be entering her 1st competition this year. So hopefully - this e-bike has transformed both of our lives. Let's make it 3 lives enriched - my border collie is 2 years old and wants 10km run a day minimum. Having an e-bike means I can take her to the top of a nearby hill and ride a trail down and get home again all during my lunch hour!
@embn Started riding and racing MTBs over 40 years ago. In 2020, purchased by first Levo SL e-MTB and started riding twice as much and 50% greater distances. It changed my life...
Great interview, Steve. The no.1 thing that came to mind during your interview was - we need an alternator of some sort to help extend the life of the battery during rides. Use the energy of the pedaling to recharge the battery, or the energy of braking, etc. - that would solve a lot of what Darren was talking about.
I bought myself a Santa Cruz Heckler SL and it is a game changer for sure. Don’t want to sell the analog yet but it sure sits around now. More smiles per mile is my motto now.😊
Any news as to what is going on with Canyon Bikes and their emtb battery debacle for Spectral ON and Torque ON owners? Canyon needs to play their hand carefully on this one.
I love my Turbo Levo and my Orbea Wild but Darren is absolutely right, especially for everything DH an E-MTB is a huge disadvantage for the rider for obvious reasons, even more so in a race/competition situation. I dream of a high power bike (85 NM +) with a decent battery (1000 WH +) and weight below 17kg/37 pounds at a decent price point. This will take some years from now on I reckon. Maybe in 2027? We'll see.
Nikola Tesla's Cars did Not require Batteries, he used Natural Available Earth Electricity! Musks cars are an insult to Nicolas original prototypes. Like Darren said, the technology just isn't there yet. Someday we will be flying the globe with SUPER LIGHT ebikes. Meanwhile, I'll have Fun Shredding any trail near me, on my "Chubs" because I'm an old fart (original freerider 1977) Clydesdale at 240 lbs.
I admire Darren but he needs to move on, his double standards in relation to how he described Rampage and how the points are awarded are so far apart it's a joke. You can always trust Steve to avoid the hard questions in any interview, maybe he should grow a pair or move on as well? Or maybe I should unsubscribe and move on?
this whole discussion felt forced, and looked awkward, I am all for ebikes but using a 50lbs plus bike for free ride is ridiculous yall where really reaching with this one.
Do you think eBikes can be used for freeride?
How i got hook on it Was a walking path warrior ,even got in better shape started pounding in laps on regular trance x
Yes, absolutely.

Lets be clear. The lines that were rewarded at Rampage were slopestyle focused. Freeride is about raw lines, not buffed out trick lines.

He,s so right, “we are all going to be on e bikes in the future”
Maybe I missed the show, but when will be the next show focused on the Nicolai with the Pinion MGU? Thanks
Will you guys please address the Canyon Battery fiasco ?
I like Darren he speaks a lot of sense... I have both electric and none electric and completely agree with his opinions...

What size motor does he use?
Any hands on the 2025 Cube stereo hybrid one77 yet?
How can I find out more about Claw bikes. I’m actually interested in investing if that something they are looking for in the US.
💪

Darren said it multiple times, he wouldn’t ride a e-bike for free ride, he was very dismissive of that idea 🤷♂️
