    Some beautiful bikes. Impressed with how slammed some of the bars are for "touring bikes".😳 Interesting how the industry behemoths give "scholarships" to select "independent" frame builders and give them a little bit of direction. The rack from Kobel cycles- very cool.

      @cercletheworld 7 дней назад

      It wasn’t a dream. It was more of a vision: As an 18 year old, I came back from Oktoberfest (fairly drunk) and was dancing in front of the bathroom mirror listening to Paul Kalkbrenne sound. And all of a sudden I saw myself somewhere at a beautiful lake in the sunset… being completely independent, like having everything I need to live and to move, but it wasn’t a van, it wasn’t a backpack, it was something in between.. and yeah, the rest was f***ing hard work 😎🤞

    Also, I'm loving how so many frame parts are being custom 3D printed. With services like PCBWay in China offering a stainless steel 3D printing service for around the same price per volume as buying cast lugs, etc, it means CAD skills are the only barrier to "that special frame that can't be built because the lugs aren't standard."

    19:56 Interesting how the braze was left unpainted, giving almost the appearance of parts of a flower. The time spent masking the braze before painting must have been extensive. The show really captures the creativity of the builders.

    • @pesomasagravedad

    For me I think my next bike will be a 20" cargo bike with beefy integral steel cargo racks.
    Been riding a 700c bike with a Topeak rear rack and when loaded to less than half capacity there is a lot of flex and it gets very tippy on the center-stand. Only way I could lower the CG while having a basket above the tires would be to lower the diameter of the wheel and 20" seems like the best option with the bonus of making the bike more compact wheelbase wise and lowering the gearing overall. I'm a putt putt guy, if I can comfortably do 10 mph on my bike that's plenty, the lower gearing is nice on hills and such.

    This is the first I've seen of 3D printed (additive manufacturing) stainless steel. Curious how it compares to traditional SS for stress and durability. As someone in the traditional "reductive" manufacturing side (CNC), I can see jobs like mine diminishing considerably over the next decade.

    • @dominikmarekdominiak
      @dominikmarekdominiak 26 дней назад +1

      Project D here :) no worries, 3D printing is just another crayon in the engineering pencil case, and one that blends really well with both traditional and CNC reductive technologies. Printed parts are never 'cnc perfect' and some areas need a bit of love on the lathe or a mill. As for the strength, printed parts match machined parts.

    Thanks Russ for opening the eyes of many to alternative bicycles. The creators are clearly passionate about their bicycles. Pricing would have helped for people thinking about alt bikes. Did you notice any big differences between made in the US and bespoke in EU? If you did, your thoughts would be appreciated. Cycledelic is definitely saving the best til lastI have ideas to turn my Zeitbikes short wheelbase cargobike into a "campervan" and in researching concepts I've come across cycledelic on youtube. It's an inspired design and the concept of sleeping across the bike, like I'm thinking of doing is verified by it - probably how I'll do my camper pod. Mind you, the short wheelbase Zeitbikes only have a 550mm minimum load floor length, so the bed might have to be a bit more elevated than cycledelic, or I may have to find a frame builder willing to extend and reinforce my single spar frame.

      Bit of a narrow-minded comment for this channel and this kind of content, isn't it? Did you say the same thing about some of the wacky bikes of Made show? The first thing many of the people in this scene will say is that these aren't really practical or commercially viable products, they create these bikes for fun, as an hommage to something or to try out ideas.
      Everybody knows you can get a bombproof mass manufactured steel frame for a gravel/touring/mountain/whatever bike for 700 bucks and go from there. That's not what these conventions are about though.
