Ahhhh... the 8 button. Glad they brought it back in the 8th instalment of The Stanley Parable. Also know as The Stanley Parable 8: Now With Added Water.
The Narrator talking about things we hadn't experienced in the demo gave me chills. It's like these memories you wish you had, or memories you did experience and you desperately want back or wish you could remember and recognize, but you just _can't_ remember no matter how hard you try. It's honestly really gut-wrenching.
From all that i gathered of monologue from the narrator, plus of course, the Stanley Figurines ending, i can safely say that the Narrator is someone who has many problems with letting the past or someone go, he's just too lonely.
Thinking about how in the original mod and in several trailers for the 2013 game The Narrator was this cold and menacing character and then you get to the demo, 2013 game, and Ultra Deluxe and he’s just a smug goofball
@@Emperor_Mateus_of_Palamecia Although the only one smug superior being I know is the Narrator... Any recommendations of other games with smug superior beings?
@@Emperor_Mateus_of_Palamecia I saw the Portal thing in the games ending and I indeed thought it was cool (I had an idea to take the radio everywhere for the music+portals are cool) so I've been trying to pirate it for a while now (parents won't let me pay for games) I will try again tomorrow and if I can't do it I'm gonna watch a playthrough. Now hearing it has a smug superior being too made me sad because I probably wouldn't be able to experience it for myself. So the only way I can experience this game for myself is to either somehow find a way to pirate it (very unlikely), beg for money (not cool), wait for it for my birthday (rather have something else) or wait years before I will have a job (I will probably forget about the game) and so yeah ima sad
When I played the demo myself I was not expecting as amazing an experience as I got, especially the beautiful monologue at the ending. The gameplay portion of the demo is thoughtful, contradictory, and confusing, and the monologue is a bit of that too. But mostly, it's a Narrator who realizes that he'd rather have a friend than a story, who realizes that he and the player are trapped in roles they can't deviate from, in a loop they can't escape. The way Kevan Brighting's voice cracks and says "we were free" always makes me emotional. The Narrator might have his flaws, but he's very lonely deep down, and I think he deserves a hug.
the ending always makes me tear up. setting a scene we never get to see, and ultimately the elevator leads out of door 427 and back into the office. such a beautiful demo and a beautiful game.
9:08 Funny story. I actually got motion sickness from playing The Stanley Parable for the first time, and I actually vomited, so that one is not a joke.
I never thought about that. Buttons are a symbol of choice. They are the way a person controls a machine. And yet, the machine can control the person with such buttons, as they demonstrate in the game. They force you to push certain buttons in order to move forward. Which is a perfect symbol of the way the game works. It gives you the illusion of choice. What you choose determines the ending, but "The end is not the end." Regardless of what you do, the buttons you press, the result is the same. You finish, and then you end up right back where you started.
There is a secret in the emotion booths. Behind the booths if you walk towards the vent there is a booth labled secret and when you step inside music plays and there are disco lights.
20:21 - That part felt like the Narrator was about to kiss me, seriously: I could almost feel his breath, the tension as his lips would get closer and closer to mine as he spoke... That was intense.
now that i think about it, i think they just merged the demo with the main game for the ultra deluxe while changing the story and context of the demo up a bit
the ultra deluxe version has a ton of content that has nothing to do with the main game or the demo. In fact, can you name a single joke from the demo that is also in the ultra deluxe version?
@NinjaBluefyre tbh I don't understand your logic here. Yeah, the Jim Button and the Compliment Button are both buttons, but they are completely different jokes. And the emotion booth is just a one-time gag about emotions, but the bucket changes the entire game by giving a new ending to an old path if you are holding it, which is a good chunk of ultra deluxe's content.
Now we have the terrable and underwhelming "ultra deluxe". (Available on all consoles and PC) with all that was add was some dialogue and a jumping circle.
