Hey everybody! I put together a "practice tabs worksheet" that goes along with this video, to help you practice these fingerpicking patterns, available for Patrons here: www.patreon.com/posts/two-simple-you-80047954?Link&
I left a thank you out. It is so simple and it will come natural to people. Your timing will be great too because the fingers are keeping time. The only drawback, don’t give up your strumming! I picked every song to sing along with it for years and when I went back to start streaming, it was hard to find the right timing even here 4/4 time!! It was crazy, but I remember reading an article that Keb Mo had the exact same thing happen. He played finger style for so long, that when he had a tune that required strumming, he had to work at it. So I can still keep that strumming in your practices because as simple as it seems, if you don’t do it for a long time, you actually lose it and have to take a little time to get it back.
I have been around and around looking for the tutorial that would help me learn a simplified picking style. Lots of great instructors out there but you by far is the best! Looking forward to following your tutorials. Thank you. Liked and subscribed
Hey man your a good teacher, most who have already arrived at good playing forget how hard it may be for a beginner and teach way to fast, so it becomes very frustrating....keep up the good work....😎
Hi Jonathan ,teacher I LOVED YOUR FINGERS PICKING WAS RIGHT IT, AND IMPROVED AS TO PLAYED A GUITAR SKILL IT. I would not know how It worked at all, but for now I knew how the guitar 's CHORDS WORKED FOR (ETC). THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR TIMES AND CONCERNS , THE PEOPLE A WHOLE WORLD HAS WATCHED YOU HAVE BEEN DONE SO WONDERFULLY.
I am glad that you randomly popped up on RUclips. I liked and subscribed. I'm going back to playing guitar after an injury basically it's gonna be good physical therapy to begin. I am sure I will catch more of your videos later on.
I really love the way you are analysis the whole tutorial, its really interesting to watch. Sending lots of hugs from Freetown Sierra Leone West Africa
I thought I recognized the voice on this lesson! You made all kinds of instructional videos but never showed your face. Maybe I’m way behind but this is the first time I’ve seen your face. You are a fantastic player and instructor! I think the reason your videos didn’t have a billion sales or a billion views is because it’s so hard to build a relationship with people when you don’t see their face. People usually gravitate to likeable people. But, man, you seem AND look, like a great guy! And you’re easily as good as the top guitar teachers on RUclips. These easy to play, easy to understand, free videos, should bring tons of people to your page. I wish more people would throw in some singing with the lesson. Like how to play and sing some of the more basic, rock, blues, country hits. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Jonathan, this is really helpful to me. Fingerpicking is a guitar goal of mine and given that I'm mostly using both of the basic strum patterns you've taught me, adding the finger picking version makes complete sense. Thanks!
thank you for your help l have been playing since 1956 due to an operation gone wrong l am disable so l thought l would give this a try ,,, you have done such a well presented video I will keep an eye out for you, my wife and I live in the Stoke oh Trent af the UK all the best allan
Thank you so much! This is one of the best teachings I've found on picking for absolute beginners like myself. I can't even strum good yet. These finger picking patterns sound better and seem easier. Working on my first song... "As The Deer" going to see if one of these patterns work.🙏
EXCELLENT LESSON Coach Jonathan!!!🎸🎸🎸. I prefer Playing Songs Fingerpicking. Was wanting / HOPING to LEARN another Fingerpicking pattern. I want to LEARN THESE🥰🎸🎸🎸. Thanks so much Coach for this Lesson!!!
Hi, Jonathan ! Your lesson was so much simplified & conveyed everything a guitar learner seeks for. Congratulations!! Would love to see more of such useful lessons & tips. This was my first. Pl tell me how to refer to your " song library ? Thanks again. Good day !!
I've been learning for many years only with my favorite online-teacher... (no... don't be afraid, no advertising here...😉). Now I think, I've found a second one that can add plenty of good things to my playing. THANKS!
Thanks, Jonathon! This is great! I really love the emotion finger picking gives a song. Now all I need is a magic potion that makes my chord progressions smooth and fast. I'm still clumsy with progressions to C and D. Oddly, I find I hit chords more accurately when I don't watch my fretting hand.
Fantastic ! My friend who's a Bass player in Detroit always laughs at me He called them ghost chords. I can reach something cuz I'm small handed or just make up a tune that's what sounded exactly like the time and it's always worked. This is excellent thank you for sharing
Thank you 😊 Thank you 😊 😘 Awesome teacher. Great lesson. Best out there. My problem is that when i am changing chords I lose the pattern. Any advice....:(
Hello Yudi. Set a metronome to something slow, like 60 or 80 bpm. Just take one transition, for instance, G to Cadd9, then back to G and keep repeating, focusing on only the strum pattern. Count the beats out loud to help you focus on the strumming. Begin the transition between the last beat of one measure and the first beat of the next. Do this for several minutes (15 or so) over a few days. This will help set the strum pattern to memory.
Hi Jonathon. I would find it easier to comprehend these patterns if you had on-screen graphics showing the string/finger relationship. On the 4/4 pattern, what is the string order when playing a D chord? Is it G, D, B, G?

Hi Jonathon. I would find it easier to comprehend these patterns if you had on-screen graphics showing the string/finger relationship. On the 4/4 pattern, what is the string order when playing a D chord? Is it G, D, B, G?
So I want to finger pick take me home country roads, quite a fast bpm song, so I used the first pattern, anything else I need to know?
