I think the issue is that a lot of "modern" aspect is just thrown in to include them. EX: Batman robin, Tim Drake, comes out to be dating a guy. But the issue is he was in the middle of a relationship w Spoiler(a girl he has a long history with together) and all of a sudden with no explanation the next story he is just dating a guy and nothing touched on it since.
It's almost like gays have a certain level of disconnect with how reality actually functions.
I’m getting old school jk news vibes with all these guest on at the same time 💯👍🏽
Eric July knows his shit. Come at him about comics with the causal knowledge the JKN crew has and you’re walking into a knife fight with a pool noodle. Good for him to go and make the change he wants to see instead of crying about it on Twitter
I think the issue is that comic book writers are just putting surface-level representation, or representation that feels hollow, rather than character-driven stories. Well-written characters are sacrificed for the sake of meeting a quota, and the representation ends up feeling insincere.
As long as your character has a good story, people are fine with the diversity and stuff. But when you prioritize shoving political messages over a good story, it leads to a trashy story with a political advertisement. People don't like that.
It shows with superhero comics from DC and Marvel suffering to pull profits while one book from My Hero Academia, which is exactly the same genre and has a lot of diverse characters, is so successful
Superman is no longer considered American... *Homelander enters the chat*
Lollllll
TBH Homelander represents the country better 😂
The problem with "wokeness" in media is not that it’s there, the problem is that it is very disingenuous. For example avatar the last airbender, this show was anti war but in a genuine way. This show also has a blind character that has a personality beyond being blind.
As a harry potter and jknews fan, there was a rumor in the stan community that kept saying Dumbledore was gay and then jk gave it to us
dont mind relationships in comics, dont mind same sex relationships, but it just feels like everyone is just making these characters gay just for sales and shock value. if it dont got shit to do with the story leave it the fuck out
Go woke go broke...they said the new non woke comic is doing very well. Just seems like they continue to push LGBT on everyone. Something like 40% of the new gen now identify as LGBT
The bisexual Superman is not the OG one. It's supposed to be his son.
So Jon? Or Conner? (Sorry idk the spelling 😅)
@@Ria-vj3ch John is the one. (Yeah,no worries 😉).
Comics should make new characters to fit the “woke” crowd and not change their current characters to fit the mold
It's not just comics. All this woke sh*t is every where, comics, tv, movies, music, news, online. Tired of these storylines period.
It's not f-ing with my childhood it's just poor writing, like turning Robin gay makes no sense and erase a lot of things from Tim Drakes' past. Jon Kent being gay is ths only thing about him there's no story, just comic strips you would see from Tumblr years ago. That's DC and Marvel is even dumber, the moment into the spiderverse make Miles popular, he began their token black guy to use and milk to absolute shit. There's a comic where he's Thor and it's written like the writer only experience with Black people and culture is from Twitter memes. It's disrespectful and lazy.
As a lesbian, I agree with every word you said.
There's nothing wrong with diversity, inclusion and things in anything as long as it's not the focus. There's beauty in everything as long as you know how to make it shine. Make those things the silver lining and not the whole point of the content
Yes it doesn't matter if the movie sucks and the writing is so bad and i realize when movies do that the film turns out bad. Like its all about the writing and how you film it is what really matters. Like adding a mexican fist or a black first won't really make an impact on a movie. I mean the black panther movie really did do a good job with chad and making people love the movie and maybe like black people even more. But with chad he didn't care about all that stuff he just wants to do a good job playing he's character and that' how it should be.
@@mysticstrikeforce5957 Yea, similarly Ms Marvel, which that one does tow the line at a couple parts almost venturing into woke dipping it's toes into feminism via the sister with the feminism, but as far as the India side of things goes it's a very rich interesting story. They used the MC's personal diversity to make a relatable story shine in a unique way. It wasn't shoved down our throats, it was used as a vehicle to keep us engaged and interested which is wonderful. Used as the stage, not as the purpose I suppose is a way to put it
With JKRowiling, it did come across as her making last minute decisions so her characters looked "woke."

But when they create a new character they get mad because they think they are being to woke. So basically you can’t win with anything just create what you want to create.
Exactly. You cannot win, so why play the game?

I have a quick question for you.
Did you know that “Bible Man” is really a thing? He’s not a fake Comic Book character also he have a couple Movies that have gotten released a long time ago.
Bible Man was dope

Bro, you just unlocked a memory of mine. I only had one dvd of Bibleman, it was the one where the villain put bad stuff into the drinks at a baseball game and the kids turned into menaces. At least thats what I remember
I feel like people forget comics have been around for decades, the comics have had to rehash, retcon and reboot tons of times. Upon adapting that to the films, we have more linear progression (if not just business limitations) with regards to why Chris and Robert left the franchise and obvious successors like Sam/Falcon to take their place.
The opposite of woke is not racis and such, it's being a normal human being.
Wokism is racism.

I laughed so hard when he said that
@3: 27 MMA Guy: If you're complaining about comic books and how they are not just and socially accurate...
i believe you miss understood the author/creator of that publishing co. Hes trying to create a space for people who just like comics period without the socially accurate/injust issues thats happening right now. its actually contrary to your statement, its the W O K E people who would constantly complain about wokeness which force companies like DC and MARVEL to change heroes we grew up with. basically this new publishing is saying, No we dont want wokeness on our heroes, we just want plain old good vs evil action story.
@3: 40 David So so: The only problem i have with that is that comic shouldnt be a socio-political thing - hes never read comic books before, comic books has been about socio-political issues.
let me just correct you mr. so so - Captain America was a P O L I T I C A L not Socio-political. Socio-political is S O C I A L and P O L I T I C A L issues combined. Back then AMERICA/G E R M A N/R U S S I A are all p o l i t i c a l issues, its Good vs Evil thats it. Now adding social + political its now Good Guy/Girl/Them/IT/XYZ vs E v i l, do you see the difference mr. so so?
@3: 49 David so so: if hes really a comic book fan...
Looks like he is, the reason he created his company is because for 60+years plus starting from the old Good vs Evil story, it now has evolved to Good Guy/Girl/Them/IT/XYZ vs Evil. you wouldnt notice that because you are just a consumer, he thinks like a creator thats why he caught on to the trend of companies like DC and Marvel bastardizing our beloved heroes and adding elements which is not really originally about the hero, its just used as a career stepping stone to appease the masses(w o k e masses).
for the people who still dont understand its just this -
old comics - Good vs Evil
woke comics - Good Guy/Girl/Them/IT/XYZ vs E v i l
yea you read it right, its david so so coz his comments and arguments are always so so even on Tim's podcast, he would bring up issues he doesnt like or agree , complains about it then contradicts himself a few videos later thats why hes so so.
i hope steve would have been here, he understands more on the comic side coz he used to be a collector and a reader. David is just speakin out his a s s.
What do you mean it was just political? There were definitely socio-political issues in comics. Maybe it wasn’t the focal point, but it was there.
Love love love that jacket Ryan btw the Crane is so cool! 🥰✨
These people have to try and make the diversity feel natural instead of just forcing it in there.
Also I'm Mexican so it would be funny if they made a comic with stereotypical Mexicans.
Comics have been political since literally the beginning. Superman, the X-Men, Captain America etc.

That doesn't make sense. Having no Social Justice culture in Superhero genre is like having a tuna mayo sandwich without the tuna mayo.
True. Comics have been political since forever and that's how they always be. Just better artist styles these days tbh. Which is fun to see.
Justice not social justice
you should see the ratio rn between the US woke comic business and the non-woke anime/ manga business
There's a difference between having a political/social backdrop, and interjecting social justice and making passing traits like orientation, gender or race the defining factors in your characters...its cheap and pandering, u see this when they send this entertainment to far less accepting places...they tend to erase any trace of it, as to not mess with their money.
@@antidave the point is not to be on the nose or obnoxious about it.
I love young rippa he’s cool✨ n I’m ready to support what he’ll make
I DONT WANT TROUBLE! 🤣
This is very silly idea considering the most famous comic hero’s all started off with politics heavily featured Superman fights Nazis same with Captain America who literally on his first issue punches Hitler in the face Stan Lee and Steve Ditko were always pretty on top of the progressive movement in comics with Black Panther Luke Cage, the X-Men are literally a civil rights metaphor Magnetos origin story is that he survived a concentration camp Isiah Bradley the first black Captain America was experimented on given powers and hidden away from society and I could go on and on forever politics has always and will always be apart of superheroes and media in general so this idea that we need to go back to a time when things weren’t political is just ridiculous and not true
superman joins protests now. who wants to read that?
sales show no one. !
in fact comic book industry is dying. maybe dead even
@@God-ec8ni my brother the comic industry is always dying what are you talking about I’m pretty sure the comic industry is probably doing better now than it had been doing for about 15-20 years mainly because of the popularity of the MCU
Sales speak louder than words.
Agree with all you say but one thing you dont want to acknowledge is how toxic they are doing the comics nowadays. They turn old heroes gay or bad the give the mantle to either a black person or a female. Gender bend race vend established heroes.. old comics doesnt do that as youve said there are established characters that represented them.
Speaking of Bibleman: I received from a local Korean church a comic book named MESSIAH, manga style.
Basically the new testament in a manga. It has the special effects of hair going bright and standing like Goku when things get powerful and everything....
How is Superman not American if he grew up in Kansas and has a job in America? 🤨
Because he wasn’t born here.
@@marcelcjr9313 you don’t have to be born in the US to be an American. But he literally was raised in Kansas and has a degree in journalism probably from KSU, while working a full time job in Metropolis (NYC)
@hwat He does have multiple citizenships but that doesn’t negate the fact he was raised in Kansas, works, and lives in the US. Superman is very much American 🇺🇸.

Jubilee, Storm, and X-Men in general were primarily modeled after the Civil Rights movements, as a LOT of the storylines involved the disparities between mutants and humans and the prejudices for being 'different'.
Xavier himself was also Modeled specifically after MLK.

There’s a literary comic book team in marvel that is all woke. And it got ripped apart
If you notice all the new marvel characters are either ethnic or female for example, America Chavez, Hawk eye, Ms. Marvel, Black Widow's sister and female Loki.
The X-men are quite literally based on the civil rights movement.
The word "woke" has been so bastardized. It was supposed to mean being educated on social issues, but dumbasses have used it to mean any time there's a female lead in a movie and they're butthurt about it or whenever they're uncomfortable seeing gay people on screen. It's like a series will have a gay character for the first time and these people will be like "i'm so tired of woke culture." Bro, just say you don't like gay people lol. I don't mind things that are "offensive" (especially done in satire), but not offensive for the sake of mocking people's existence for who they are or wanting to be treated with respect.
But in the reverse, you have people that will unironically say something like, "censoring cuss words in your videos infantilizes adults" or "learning ASL is cultural appropriation." Those are real things some people said lmao. Or you have people squeeze in LGBT characters to fit a quota. And David is right, comics have had social political messages for a while. Weren't the people who wrote Captain America Jewish and the comics were about being anti-nazi?
Yes, Captain America was a direct response to World War 2. A lot of comic storylines have been social commentary. It just so happens that being LGBTQ is the social trend for the last several years. The problem is you get backlash from people who want their favorite characters as they have always been. Now there is no connection between new and old characters. It’s a sudden shift from being familiar to something completely different. I for one think new characters should be created to portray those who are LGBTQ. No sense in making old characters suddenly like men when for the last several decades they had relationships with women.
@@taoist32 I agree with the statement. I don’t see why they haft to change original characters persona for only fraction of societal issues. I think they should make their own original characters, and trust me people will like them if the story and writing is good even if they’re are gay, straight, whatever..
Geo looking pretty fire in this one
Actually.... Harry Potter creator admitted that Dumbledore was gay almost 10 years ago BEFORE Fantastic Beasts 2 movie was released.
I’m not a bigot, so I don’t care if the character is gay, trans, or black. All I care about is a good character and good story.
yeah, just dont constantly throw it in our faces that hes different. There are definitely ways to make characters different and not have their differences be their WHOLE character
Did u feel good writing that trite bs... race swapping, gender bending, and adding x label to established characters is a lazy attempt at monetizing the woke culture... so as it is now, u can't have any of those and a good storyline...just ur friendly bigoted opinion lol
@@jhc4853 Unless that’s part of the story but yes I agree. Let gay, trans, and black characters be characters and not specifically gay, trans, and black characters unless like I mentioned above if it’s part of the story.
THESE days when characters are black or gay or Trans or non binary. it seems to be the entire driving force behind the character. causing them to lose substance and development and interest along the way. that's why no one cares about the new characters except for the wokees

It's not about the inherent politics in comic books, it was always a clash of ideologies, even back in the days. The problem is how left leaning and on the nose the mainstream comic books have been. Gay Superman? Female superheroes complaining about how much more attention their male counterparts get and other stupid nonsensical stuff.
So simply being a gay character is being too on the nose? Oh wow.

Eric July never worked in comics at all, rippaverse is his first comic venture
That's a plus in my book
There's literally a new marvel team called "new warriors" and there's literally a pair of non binary twins and their superhero Hames are literally "snowflake" and "safe space".... it sold terribly and DC had a comic named "in not starfire...literally about starfires daughter who is fat and goth and her struggles to cope with being compared to her hot mom...and comics haven't always been political David literally mentioned captin America the movie when he been published since the 50s.... like there's dozens of stories that aren't political with hundreds of characters with each their own story like "the sandman" which recently got a Netflix adaptation that's from DC comics as well as the luficfer show and literally any other DC show on the CW that isn't political I admit David knows a lot about cinema and movies and films but he has very shallow knowledge about the source materials

youngrippa fan. what your saying is kinda true about politics. The point of the deviation from that though is to not be literally slapped in the face with a person's or nation political ideology or belief. cuz honestly ... who gives a fuck ? what you should focus on is making a good story with likable, lovable and rememberable characters.
FACTS!
All I wanna say is...often people who complain about "political correctness" or "wokeness in politics" are not seeing the actual issue. What is happening is not politics, it is a culture evolving. This happens constantly throughout history, and it is silly to expect otherwise. Time moves. People move, are born, grow up, learn, work, and die. Cultures shift. Those who don't like when culture changes call it political to avoid acknowledging that a previously acceptable behavior was revealed to have been offensive the whole time, just not to them. Society as a whole being willing to acknowledge that fact is not a political issue. It is a social-cultural issue, that no single person or group has any control over. That is why people scream "wokeness" and "politics", because they cannot fathom that their way of thinking is no longer socially acceptable.
It's not evolution, as much as it is artificial pandering and enforcement.
Hence people losing their minds when something that doesn't pander to them happens,
and "inclusivity" ideas get expressed in the context of it being a moral duty to participate in all of the "woke" ideas.
@@jay1jayf No one is forced to think a certain way. The very fact that not everyone does is proof of that. You being against "wokeness" is just as much an aspect of our culture as the wokeness itself. No one ever told me to be woke or not. I chose my views, as did you. I go with what makes sense to me, and vice versa. As humans have always been. It's hilarious to me how those who are against "wokeness" think they are dealing with something unique to their era. Thank you for reinforcing my point. Call it politics to avoid acknowledging what it really is.
It's a manufactured cultural shift, in response to past behavior...you'll see that very clearly when the tide shifts... That said, I'm sure when things start happening it will be called fascism from the right, bc if I've learned anything from witnessing this shift, it's that both side have an incredible short memory when it comes to their hypocrisy.
@@HasanPikerIsADouche if that's the case, ALL cultural shifts are manufactured. People decide that something needs to change, so they start acting accordingly. Other people see the logic in it, whether it's logical or not, and do the same. A cultural movement is born. You could argue that, thanks to the Internet and modern media, that process is happening faster than it should. But, regardless, it is happening. Call it manufactured. That's not gonna stop it. As I said, those opposing it are influencing this cultural shift as much as those that are for it. Neither side controls where we will land. I do agree with you about the hypocrisy part though, for that very reason.
@@TurlasThe6 Not at all. There is laxation of cultural norms that can happen through innovation or the dynamics of society changing.
I don't think most people believe trans people are actually the sex they claim to be though.
It's just artificially taboo to be earnest about it.
The vapid race conversations are the same. Aside from the young people who get indoctrinated into it, I don't think any grown human being can not expect the hypocritical way people discuss it.
It's just enforced by companies with disproportionate power.

i support this new company. woke culture is a cancer and is just interfering with good storytelling. and I disagree with david when he says they've always been about social issues. they don't HAVE to be about social issues. even if they were in the past, that's not stopping anyone from making their OWN company where they make the rules. I can't stand to watch the new marvel and dc content because it's so deliberately woke and plastic. it's so inauthentic.
Its been much better with geo back
You know what i found funny about the woke culture is it really is towards women and male feminist. Like it does not target a fat male or a male who is short or anything else that tries to represent it self. Its sad though knowing in the near future nobody would remember what its like being straight or that being straight is now is on the low now. I mean i get what they are trying to do but lets face it in reality none of this stuff matters as film making isn't supposed to show us what's happening in the world its supposed to make us walk away from it. Cause adding in all of these culture stuff as well isn't really making a difference if the writing and the movie sucks.
Straight people will always be here. Stop making up shit.
Why does Anthony always force out his laugh?
Rippaverse is at $3.4 mill now
Wow 😳 that's a lot . Well done to them 😊
I feel like sometimes “wokeness” (if it’s even a word) can feel really forced. Like I’m from the lgbtq community and yet, although I like that more representation is out there..sometimes it does feel overwhelming when every movie, show has to have a gay character. Look at Netflix for eg. It feels like they are rushing to put out so many lgbtq stories out there which makes the storyline feel unauthentic and just uncomfortable to watch. It’s okay to not include gay characters in everything. It doesn’t make it less inclusive. Just hopefully when you do include them, pay attention to the details.
Right wing and conservative grifters will always gain money quickly compared to leftist. Also comics are always changing and these characters like Jon who is Superman and has been Superboy is a new character. So yeah him being bisexual is not that crazy.
