You definitely don’t overemphasize the first play. It’s the one that matters the most and with so many games coming out the time between plays can be significant. Keep doing what you’re doing.
Indeed! So any games at our meetups are only played once or rarely, or we have to teach at least 1 new player even on repeat plays, so 1st play is an important factor.
There’s so much ‘meat’ to early air mail. The pilots had to deal with weather, rudimentary air fields (that were, sometimes actual fields), vehicles that were not that reliable, navigation by sight, watch, and compass. This game strips all that out for what seems like a variation of ‘Ticket to Ride’.
The game still has enough depth. There are multiple ways to score and the whole thing of using other players routes which (which is essentially passive income for the other player) keeps it interesting.
