I had the pleasure of meeting Glenn and he was as sweet and engaging as anyone I've ever met...He had an incredible talent and another calling...It would be a pleasure to shake his hand and thank him for the time we spent together...They, PG & E, opened for the original Fleetwood Mac at the Carousel Ballroom with Taj Mahal...Glenn looked out for us and was a person first and then a musician...I've heard many rumors over the years and find it comforting to know that Glenn is still playing and hopefully happy and healthy. Cheers to you Glenn. Thanks for your true warmth and open heartedness...
What a great music lesson for me. I started looking back at the James Gang to see when Joe Walsh became associated with that group. It led me to this fabulous educational video.
14:20 I was at that EXACT Performance!! My dad got me in i was only 15 years old!! The waiter came up and gave me a glass of (water). I saw Glenn a handful of times after that. Once at the Mr. Stress rememberance concert and again with Cleveland Ohio's Own Butch Armstrong at Grillers on State Road in Parma, OH. RIP Guitar Great Glenn Schwartz
I knew Glenn from the time he joined PG&E. He was a unique, wonderful person and an astounding guitar player. He says in the interview the band members hated him but I think they were so worried about him. It was a shock when he quit the band. We lost touch for many years but reconnected a few years before he died. He told me he and his brother had been abused as children. It’s a tragedy he got trapped into cults. I’m glad he could spend the rest of his life playing his guitar.
I knew Glenn quite well. I've played with him many times. I was always so sad that his religion had too hard of a hold on him. It makes me cry to remember.
We went to The Beachland Ballroom last nt for Robert Lockwood's 100th Birthday Celebration & were lucky enough to witness The Schwartz Brothers in all their glory! It was something to behold. I have never seen a man so talented & over the top crazy with what he can do with that guitar! Watching his story here was riveting. Rock on old man!
Glenn would come to my shows at the beachland ballroom and he would always leave very unhappy with my language... he informed me I would most likely not make it into heaven, so I got that going for me.
I'm a late comer to the Glenn Schwartz music legacy! But I realize what I missed. Can anyone recommend (or share with me) where to find some of his recordings (LP, CD, etc.)?
Just moved back to Cleveland went to try and see Glenn Thur and found out hes dead. Teared up a bit. Saw every Thurs for years at Hooples Beachland..... After asking for a year he let me carry equipment out once, honor from weird genius. I was really wanting to jst shoot the s@#t with him but he didnt much do that. Never worked up nerve to ask him if hed give me a couple lessons. Few nights he came out full band tuned up and freak out over ?? not play a note preach Jesus a couple hours. Tell us we are goin to hell. put down his 7 string and ditch out. He was amazing on the strings, his intense passion he had was entrancing. We had one of the greatest guitarists who ever played at a dive bar west bank of the flats every week and he was virtually unknown by choice. Glenn coulda given Trey Anesthasio some lessons. Id sneak in my mini Tascam once in a while so I could replay for friends who did not get what went on at Hooples, words could not do justice and made Glenn seem insane. I dont think he was any more than the rest of us Clvelanders. Creatives have a different outlook, we dont articulate well with 9-5 folk. He did not like to be recorded, any full shows? Ones I had burned in a house fire. Anyone know whats up with the scene? Bad ass the Black Keys stepped up and are carrying on his legacy with Glenns custom 7 string and all. RIP GS TY
The tragedy of drugs is that they can drive people to such stupid things as religion. Oh well. good story. Dedicated and admired guitar player. That's some bitchen cars too Gene.

Glenn Schwartz (March 20, 1941 - November 2, 2018) was the American original guitarist of The James Gang, based in Cleveland, Ohio, United States.

Glenn's story reminds me a little bit of Peter Green and a little bit of Dick Wagner
